I just realised that upstream rolled out a new release, 0.16. Several
bugs seems to have been fixed, so maybe it's worth bringing the package
back from the dead?

About that, I notified the current pkg owner on Saturday. :-)
Also have added a comment in bz and updated the patch status in F-12 cvs.
If you'd like to join as a (co-)maintainer again, feel free to do so.

That's probably the crasher I got last week in gnome-bluetooth. If the
dconf DB is empty, then you'd get a crasher. The fix is unfortunately
not easily backportable, so I didn't pull the fix into dconf in rawhide.

Will have to wait for the next release.

Orphaning diveintopython

2010-06-07 Thread Julian Aloofi
I have taken over diveintopython a couple of weeks ago, expecting it to
be pretty easily-maintainable as the book changes very rarely.
Well, looks like I was wrong.
The build process has recently been patched to use xalan-j because saxon
dropped XSLT 1.0 support as far as I understand, and it involves quite a
bit of ant and XML magic.
I don't have much experience in these fields, so I thought I'd better
orphan the package right away before trying to mess with it too much.
It currently FTBFS in Rawhide.

So, I've released ownership of it in pkgdb, feel free to take it if you
think you can fix the build process.

They're both in the final release, which is why it's not in updates.

Yep. Everything seems to be ok here.
I have released ownership in pkgdb. Please take them.

I'll note that garrick has 2 other packages:

aalib
perl-Curses

Perhaps some folks would also like to take those over since garrick is
away?

perl-Curses I'll take definitely as it's a dependency, just forgot when I doing

orphaning tpb

2010-06-07 Thread Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.

I have been meaning to orphan tpb for a long time, but today I am
finally going to do so. ;)

It has 2 open bugs.

It should really not be used much if any anymore as many DE's provide
it's functionality.

There has not been an upstream release in about 5 years.

I no longer have a thinkpad. ;)

Interested parties feel free to take it...

Depends on your hardware. The volume 'buttons' on a Thinkpad X40 I had
recently don't work unless tpb is used; they don't pass standard
keysyms.

Unfortunately I no longer have access to said Thinkpad =) I suspect at
least someone else @redhat.com must be in a similar situation, though.

And seeing as the last of the x40 series was made almost what? 4? 5yrs
ago? I doubt we're going to see more of those.

But all the hundreds of thousands of x40s that were made...still exist.
Most of them, someone somewhere is still using.

I do sometimes worry about the 'hey, that hardware is more than six
months old, so we don't have to care about it!' attitude. I'm sorry I
can't help more to fix this particular issue, but I didn't have access
to the hardware for long and wasn't able to track down anyone who cared
and could tell me what information to gather. :/

I had an x40 for quite a number of years - I had 2 of them in fact - and
the buttons worked - they controlled the volume - but they didn't do any
on screen display for me.

I've been playing with it locally. It requires ffmpeg so in its
current state would never make it into Fedora. I'm looking at
rpmfusion as a possibility. But it doesn't currently compile on
F-13/F-14.

So I downloaded the F-13 0.8.1-0.1.git20100510 packages, and tried a
'yum localupdate' -- and surprisingly get a "Nothing to do" response
from yum. Both the 0.8.0-0.4 from the prerelease and the final
0.8.1-0.1 have epoch set to 1, but for some reason yum thinks 0.8.0 >
0.8.1.

Getting more puzzling than ever. rpm -Uvh --test agrees with yum in
this case, that there is nothing to upgrade.

yum downgrade NetworkManager-0.8.1-0.1.git20100510.fc13 claims the
package does not exist, and rpm -Uvh --oldpackage does not do anything
either. *Very* odd.

Interesting -- on my x86_64 system, which is upgraded to F-13 final
from a beta install, I have the update problem described, while on a
fresh F-13 i686 install on my netbook, there's no problem.

Here are the x86_64 package versions:

$ rpm -q NetworkManager initscripts
NetworkManager-0.8.0-0.4.git20100211.fc13.x86_64
initscripts-9.11-1.fc13.x86_64

and on the netbook:

$ rpm -q NetworkManager initscripts
NetworkManager-0.8.1-0.1.git20100510.fc13.i686
initscripts-9.12-1.fc13.i686

I tried updating with the updates repo disabled, but for some reason
NM-0.8.1 is not picked up despite it being in the mirrors:

$ sudo yum --disablerepo=updates update initscripts NetworkManager
...
Setting up Update Process
Resolving Dependencies
--> Running transaction check
---> Package initscripts.x86_64 0:9.12-1.fc13 set to be updated
--> Processing Conflict: initscripts-9.12-1.fc13.x86_64 conflicts
NetworkManager < 1:0.8.0-12.git20100504
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: initscripts conflicts with NetworkManager
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

Any idea what could be causing this? If I try updating just
NetworkManager, I get "No Packages marked for Update"

Thanks,

Re: Orphaning diveintopython

2010-06-07 Thread Chris Jones
Yeah I considered taking it over myself when it was first put up for offer.
But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it could be quite
hands-on considering the constant evolution of the python code. At least you
realized this early and was able to offer it up to someone who may be able
to take care of it better than yourself. Good move.

No, but if somebody does start it I can take over. I maintain FUSE

I am the FUSE userspace utilities maintainer, but neither anybody
