I have another non-ustar tar file that's incorrectly detected as

[jira] [Updated] (TIKA-953) Tika failed to recognize non-ustar Tar file?

2012-10-31 Thread Michael McCandless (JIRA)

 [

 ]

Michael McCandless updated TIKA-953:

Attachment: test2.tar

"file" reports this as a tar archive, but:
{noformat}
cat test2.tar | java -jar tika-app/target/tika-app-1.3-SNAPSHOT.jar --detect
{noformat}
says application/octet-stream.

I created the tar file with 7z:
{noformat}
7z a -ttar test2.tar New\ Text\ Document.txt
{noformat}

[jira] [Commented] (TIKA-953) Tika failed to recognize non-ustar Tar file?

2012-10-31 Thread Nick Burch (JIRA)

[
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/TIKA-953?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=13487957#comment-13487957

Nick Burch commented on TIKA-953:
-

File isn't getting this on the regular magic, it's only found via a special
helper in is_tar.c

I'm not sure if we can represent that same logic in our mime magic structure,
as from first glance it's doing a load of checksum related stuff, but if
someone wants to investigate that's probably the best place to start!
