Is this server managed by ASF infra with puppet or is it possible to
gain root access to do the installation?
I've just tested with tomcat 9.0.27 and opengrok 1.3.3. Tomcat is
quite straightforward, it would be better to use the packages provided
by the VM's system.

It is our VM with root access. I think you need to ask infra for root access if
there is an issue let me know I arrange for the missing stuff.

The Ubuntu machine only offered a tomcat 7, newer opengrok need at least tomcat
8. So I decided in favour of a newer opengrok version.

Hi -

We can ask Infra for a newer Ubuntu 18 and, if necessary, a current Tomcat 8.5
/ 9. That’s easy to do.

Last week, AOO 4.1.7 has been downloaded more 1 million times.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/openofficeorg.mirror/files/4.1.7/stats/timeline?dates=2019-09-22+to+2019-10-12
Maybe these can be announced on Apache OOo blog?

We released version 4.1.7 at 2019-09-21.

Up to last week there are nearly 50,000 (in words: fifty thousand)
downloads per day.

Yes we should do it more public.

Compared to earlier releases, these numbers are not that spectacular...

But overall, we have more than 278,000,000 downloads in 7 years. Still
makes a good average! ;-)

In the meantime, I think it makes sense for me to get my OSX build machine
setup to allow for notarization. I do have an Apple developer's account
already, but should we also create one with our apache.org account? Or can we
do all this w/ our personal dev account?

IMHO doing a blog post on Oct, 21st (1 month later) would be a good

19 years OpenOffice on 13 October 2019 (was: 7 years Apache OpenOffice )

2019-10-17 Thread Jörg Schmidt
Hello,

On 13 October OpenOffice celebrated its 19th birthday, once founded as
OpenOffice.org. The first finished version OOo 1.0.0 was released on May 1,
2002.

It was OpenOffice.org that showed what is possible with opensource software,
especially in Germany, with a market share of up to 12% in office suites.

I am grateful and proud that I was able to support OpenOffice for more than 15
years as a volunteer.
