You have to create file env.properties in flex-tlf folder and set up there
FLEX_HOME path to flex sdk

This is ant in flex-tlf - build.xml file.

Hi,

>> Sorry, looks like I missed that. I assume you meant to point to

Which may still require changes to the NOTICE file and not just from
information in other NOTICE files.

I believe so for the attribution. [1] says NOTICE may need to change. [2]
states that:
"Many of these licenses have specific attribution terms that need to be adhered
to, for example CC-A, often by adding them to the NOTICE file."

I don't think I managed to find any other info on what to do with CC-A
licenses. So not having it NOTICE is most likely a licensing error, but having
in the NOTICE file is most likely correct and at worse extra info could be
removed if we discover clearer legal information at a later point.

Thanks,
Justin

Harbs,

Did Flash Player launch for you ? Probably unit tests couldn't launch flash
player. I don't have access to my dev environment now maybe should be setted
path to the FlashPlayer.exe somewhere...

I will check later today and let you know.

Re: Commit of table work

I just added flexdebug = true

It’s now opening VellumUnit in Flash CS5 and stalling in the same place.

Suggestions?

BTW, I recently started seeing this in the output when building tlf:
Please use CMSClassUnloadingEnabled in place of CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled in
the future

I believe it started after you committed the tests.

Re: Commit of table work

I assume the problem is here:

[flexunit] Executing 'open' with arguments:
 [flexunit]
'/Users/harbs/Documents/ApacheFlex/flex-tlf/bin/apps/automation_apps/bin/VellumUnit.swf'
 [flexunit]
[flexunit] The ' characters around the executable and arguments are

I’m guessing you’ve been running the tests on Windows. It’s apparently not
executing the swf correctly on Mac. The OS is trying to open the swf in Flash
Professional.

Did tests start ? Or there is no progress ?

bin\apps\automation_apps\bin\ - Do you have in this location html wrapper
for VellumUnit.swf ? You could try to launch it in web browser to see
whether tests are launching.

For some reason tests didn't launch. I have to analyze your ant output and
compare with mine.

I see that Flow.swf launched without a problem - This is module you can see

Updated Flex-SDK to use apache-flex blazeds :-)

2014-11-19 Thread Christofer Dutz
Hi guys :-)

I just updated the build job on build.apache.org to keep the latest successful
artifacts and then the flex-sdk build to download and use that library instead
of the one of the Adobe Flex SDK. I did try to do it correct and gave the build
a spin after that. All seems to have went well. But as I'm not that familiar
with the inner workings of the ANT build I don't quite know which targets to
run in order to test everything. Could you please give my changes a spin?

[SDK] during prep phase, switch 'flex-sdk-release' to release branch

2014-11-19 Thread Erik de Bruin
Hi,

I'm looking for ideas or alternate viewpoints on the following: I plan to
switch the 'flex-sdk-release' job, which produces the Nightly Builds, to
the release branch, as soon as I cut one for the upcoming release. The idea
behind this is that we give testers access to the pre-RC release builds
through the Installer, without having to change any settings/configs for
the Installer.

The develop branch will still be checked through the 'flex-sdk' job, so no
developmental protocol will be lost.

Does this sound as logical to you as it does to me? Or am I missing
something?

Thanks,

EdB

I wish there was a clear cut example of what kinds of things CC licenses
might have that need to go in NOTICE.

But to me, the relevant part of [1] is: "For any other type of CC-SA
licensed work, please contact the Legal PMC."

And from [3]: "Do not add anything to NOTICE which is not legally
required."

I couldn’t find much either. Interestingly, I did see a thread on
legal-discuss saying that CC-SA is not Category A, only CC-A is [4], so
the only thing we have to go by is [1].

I wish I’d seen this sooner. Or did you already ask?

Or how about this alternative? Since you aren’t linking to text from
wikipedia and instead are copying text from wikipedia, how about we copy
text from blogs.apache.org/flex? Then we can avoid this whole
LICENSE/NOTICE issue completely.

It should work for now since folks probably aren’t going to check stuff
into the develop branch that affects release packaging. If we were a more
active community, then it would probably make sense to clone the job and
have the clone run against the release branch.

AW: [SDK] during prep phase, switch 'flex-sdk-release' to release branch

2014-11-19 Thread Christofer Dutz
How about doing it the maven way? ;-)

At the day of the release branch, keep the version in the release branch and
increment the version of develop.
Create a second Jenkins job. One building the release branch and one the
develop. Having the Installer give the user 2 options. "Release Build SNAPSHOT"
or "develop SNAPSHOT".

Just my 50ct to this ;-)

I have set up another job, ready to go - the Maven Way (tm) :-P - but
making that new 'release' job's artefacts available to testers through the
Installer would mean tweaking the Installer config. I'd rather not do that,
I'm trying to keep this release as simple as possible and avoid any
unnecessary interaction with the Installer.

I’ll tweak the installer config for you. Just remind me when the build

Thanks. I won't start the new build job until after I cut the release

Hi,

That correct but attribution IS legally required. Any license that requires
attribution needs to be added to NOTICE. I checked with a member here at
ApacheCon and they confirmed that is the case.

> I wish I’d seen this sooner. Or did you already ask?

I did point it out ages ago and asked if anyone had any objections - there were
none. This content was actually in the previous release so it's not new and it
has already been voted on and released. Most of the content on wikipedia was
actually written by me (but not that that probably matters).

> Or how about this alternative? Since you aren’t linking to text from

I probably won't have time to do that until after ApacheCon and I'm back in
Australia. I'd suggest we release what we have now. As it already has been
released so if it is in error we've already done that. Lets fix and rerelease
if and when we have a clearer understanding on what should be done.

As I said worse case is we have something extra in NOTICE and that is not a
licensing error. There are many Apache project that has too much in NOTICE (ie
MIT and BSD). Having something missing from NOTICE however is a licensing
error. Also there are zero projects that depend on Tour De Flex having the
extra content in NOTICE has zero effect even if it is not required.

[SDK] missing license headers in license file?

2014-11-19 Thread Erik de Bruin
Hi,

Imagine that, me needing 'legal' advise ;-)

There are two files that came with the FlatSpark theme donation:

/frameworks/projects/flatspark/src/flatspark/assets/fonts/awesome/OFL.txt
and
/frameworks/projects/flatspark/src/flatspark/assets/fonts/lato/OFL.txt and

Rat complains about these not having an Apache license header. Now, since
it doesn't seem to make sense to as a license header to a license file,
what is the preferred course of action here?

OFL is category B and as per [1] "Software under the following licenses may be
included in binary form within an Apache product if the inclusion is
appropriately labeled:"

Translation is that it just need to be added to LICENSE - see existing SDK
license for an example.

BTW Fonts often have license info in the metadata, also legally you can't
change something from an existing licence to Apache that would be a grave
licensing error.

Are you suggesting releasing RC1 with the NOTICE that points to freesound

Sorry this is late, I was deep in Mustella crap. It would have been
sufficient to simply add those files as excludes to RAT. The
recommendation in the LICENSE and NOTICE how-to is for pointers.

But if you want to copy the OFL License into LICENSE, just copy it as-is,
I don’t think you are supposed to break out the copyright into NOTICE.
See the Squiggly LICENSE.

I did look. My understanding of the rules is that some licenses tell the
author to add their copyright to the license text, and in those cases, I
think we’re not supposed to modify the license text to separate out the
copyrights into the NOTICE file. Instead, just use a pointer in LICENSE
(i.e., tell folks where to find the third-party license file) which is how
I’d told the FlatSpark folks to do it, or copy the whole third-party
license with the copyrights into LICENSE which is sort of what happened in
Squiggly.

It is the Apache policy that has us move copyrights for donated code to
NOTICE.

And in the case where the license requires attribution but no attribution
is in the LICENSE like the CameronMusic sound, we mentioned the creator in
the NOTICE.

While researching an answer for Erik, I found the information I was
looking for on Wikipedia attributions [1]. So listing the URL for the
wikipedia content is the attribution that goes into NOTICE, so just fixing
the URL in NOTICE should be sufficient.

Re: [SDK] missing license headers in license file?

2014-11-19 Thread Alex Harui
Sorry, I agree it is very confusing. IMO, there are two choices based on
the repo before you made changes:

1) just add the two OFL.txt files to the RAT excludes.
2) copy the entirety of the two OFL.txt files including the copyrights
into LICENSE and don’t touch NOTICE.

My understanding is that we’re not supposed to edit a third-party license,
which is effectively what you did by splitting the OFL.txt file into two
pieces. NOTICE doesn’t have to contain the copyright for every
third-party copyright, only when the third-party license itself requires
attribution but doesn’t have a place for that attribution in the template
for the third-party license. There is no one rule for every third-party
license.

I would prefer #1 because having two copies of OFL.txt with different
copyrights at the top makes LICENSE look like it has duplication and the
how-to recommends pointers. And yes, I will make the changes if you want
me to.

Sorry and thanks,
-Alex

Re: [SDK] missing license headers in license file?

2014-11-19 Thread Mahmoud Ali
I think I'm a little late, from what I'm seeing this was just a problem
with RAT and not with the licenses, right?

Also, It looks like this is all resolved by now. If I can help with
anything on this, just let me know.

I have found the problem. It would have saved me much time if I had
properly checked that TLF was in sync on my machine.

A recent and seemingly correct change by Fred was the culprit. You can’t
do null tests on Strings and Numbers with just "if (foo)”. I’ve been
burned by this in the past. See end of post if you want more details:

Fred, did you have a test case for FLEX-34611? Can you verify that the
change I made is still a valid fix? Or post the test case you used in the
JIRA issue and I’ll test it myself.

I’ve re-enabled Jenkins. Cross your fingers for the next run!

var foo:String;
if (foo)
  trace(“foo is not null”)
foo = “”;
if (foo)
  trace(“foo is not null”)
// neither trace statement is run because of [1]

That’s my understanding. Thanks for checking in.
