ComDev Inventory Stocktake
Hi Everyone I'd like to do a ComDev inventory stocktake :-) so that we can have a common understanding of exactly what tools or applications we have at our disposal. What is Community Development currently responsible for. What websites do we maintain? What pages (internal or external do we currently update?) What other tasks are we responsible for or co-ordinate? What social media accounts do we run? What other applications do we use? So why do a stocktake? Things and people change over time and sometimes information is lost. Perhaps we already have a tool that can help someone, it's just that we didn't realise that we had it! Also perhaps someone has been doing a task and is the only one that knows how to do it. Sharing the knowledge also helps share the workload. I know that we have some resources at the links below: (so will be using them as a starting point) https://community.apache.org/about/ https://community.apache.org/newbiefaq.html#comdevweb So if you know of anything else that doesn't appear then please let me know and we'll start putting a complete list together. Ideally we would want to know what the tool, application or task is, who the main contact person is, and any knowledge about how to access and use it. Re: ComDev Blog – March 2017 Update
Hey Sharan, Thanks for sharing. However in the footer updated date is showing wrong date (shows January 14). I was wondering if I can update this. Hi Mukesh Thanks for the feedback. Which footer are you seeing as incorrect? I suggest that most of the details of the tool and how to maintain it should be in documentation files in the source code repo. That will be much easier to maintain. The comdev website should only contain brief details that are don't need maintenance. > Thanks > Sharan > > - > To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org > For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org > - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org
Crowdsourcing ApacheCon video
FYI: I'm going to try, once again, to crowdsource ApacheCon video. https://s.apache.org/7NtF also, https://twitter.com/ApacheCon/status/851408157406613504 Just having the video on YouTube would be a win over *not* having any video at all, even if the production quality isn't awesome. Please participate if you have a decent video camera. I'll be bringing mine. --Rich -- Rich Bowen - rbo...@rcbowen.com - @rbowen http://apachecon.com/ - @apachecon signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Re: ComDev Inventory Stocktake
While it's kind of not ComDev, it kind of is, so it's worth mentioning that "we" have a Wordpress.com account where we are hosting feathercast.apache.org, and this is (or, perhaps, we'd like to make it) a part of our community promotion effort. --Rich On 04/10/2017 03:09 AM, Sharan Foga wrote: > Hi Everyone > > I'd like to do a ComDev inventory stocktake :-) so that we can have a common > understanding of exactly what tools or applications we have at our disposal. > > What is Community Development currently responsible for. Yes - and we need to more clearly provide pointers (than the below) so we don't forget what's what when services go down or someone wants to contribute something new to a service. # Snoot access for projects https://snoot.io/ PMC members (only) may signup with @apache.org email and a code at: https://preview.snoot.io/signup.html Not strictly a comdev responsibility, but an obvious place to link it. # Twitter handle list of projects https://github.com/trikaladvisers/opensource/blob/master/ASF-Projects-having-Twitter-List.html May need validation. Also is GPL, so we can't publish it. It will also help to note which services are ComDev responsibility vs. infra responsibility. We need to make sure people know not to complain to infra when a ComDev service needs work. 8-) > > So why do a stocktake? Things and people change over time and > sometimes information is lost. It would be helpful to have a single place to list those efforts. I.e. I agree with sebb elsethread that technical documentation belongs alongside the code - but having a single central "these are new projects someone *is* working on" place to point out would be helpful. I'd recommend a new page on the website, personally. > > I know that we have some resources at the links below: (so will be > using them as a starting point) > > https://community.apache.org/about/ > > https://community.apache.org/newbiefaq.html#comdevweb > > So if you know of anything else that doesn't appear then please let > me know and we'll start putting a complete list together. > > Ideally we would want to know what the tool, application or task is, > who the main contact person is, and any knowledge about how to access > and use it. > > Thanks Sharan -- - Shane https://www.apache.org/foundation/marks/resources - To unsubscribe, e-mail: dev-unsubscr...@community.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: dev-h...@community.apache.org
Keynote suggestions for ApacheCon
A number of our proposed keynotes for ApacheCon have fallen through. I wonder if anyone here has a suggestion for a speaker - preferably someone that you actually have contact information for - who would be an inspiring, entertaining spokesperson for something relevant to the Apache community. Thanks. -- Rich Bowen - rbo...@rcbowen.com - @rbowen http://apachecon.com/ - @apachecon signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

One option that David (with his LF hat on) and I are working on is promoting this https://apachecon2017.sched.com/event/9zp9/panel-discussion-how-to-succeed-in-iot-20-abhi-arunachalam-battery-ventures-sudip-chakrabarti-lightspeed-venture-partners-james-pace-runtime-roman-shaposhnik-pivotal to the keynote slot. Honestly, given the caliber of speakers and especially if we can also have Zaheda Bhorat join us -- it would be a shame to constrain this to a regular slot.
