David,

Can you be lenient with the 72 hour schedule on this one? I don't
think I personally can get to test this soon and we have two other
votes going on as well.

2015-01-14 Thread Daan Hoogland
Adrian, I think your questions/considerations are right and I have
been wondering about the same things.
On one side it should be "allowed unless" instead of "only allowed
if". On the other hand therre are sure to be some features extra or
some that might have a slightly different semantics that might hinder
or impair cloudstack.
Not sure what the right answer is. Hope that someone with a view on
the architectural decisions behind it can shed some light.

Re: CloudPlatform 4.5 released?

2015-01-14 Thread Steve Wilson
I¹m not sure what bearing Redhat has on this discussion, but you are
correct in noting the Citrix did release CloudPlatform 4.5 today ‹ and it
is largely based on ACS 4.5 code. Collectively, Citrix engineers continue
to contribute the lion¹s share of ACS code and we carefully follow all
rules established by the community.

That being said, today was the start of our Citrix Summit event. It is
the Sales Kick Off and and Partner gathering for Citrix to start 2015. It
was a great opportunity to publicize what we¹re doing with CloudPlatform
(and thus ACS by extension) and we chose today as our launch date. The
reception by our sales personnel and channel partners at the show has been
very positive so far. We expect good reaction from customers as well as
we believe this is our highest quality release to date.

Thanks for your interest.

Well, I sent it yesterday so the Californians would have been awake and may now
be expecting a meeting at 8 AM their time. Let's do it at 16:00 GMT. Hopefully
David will be able to start the GTM he's already sent out: he indicated that he
could do the earlier time if he knew the day before.

I did not even know it was coming. But I agree with Marcus, citrix clouplatform
could be at 11.0 right now, it would not mean anything in terms of semantic
versioning vs cloudstack releases.

Yes, mea culpa for making a big deal out of it.
For some reason it suck in my head that ACS is for CP what Fedora is for RHEL

Re: [MERGE] Support Granular SCSI disk controllers in CloudStack over VMware hypervisor

2015-01-14 Thread Rohit Yadav

Hi Sateesh,

Can can send a Github PR for review (if you want to get a code review)
and share code coverage wrt unit (and integration) tests. I think if the
code coverage is well above 80% I think everyone should be okay with the
merge.

Let me know if you need any help.

On Wednesday 14 January 2015 09:06 AM, Sateesh Chodapuneedi wrote:

Hi,

I would like merge the branch 'vmware-disk-controllers' into master branch.
This branch contains implementation to support Granular SCSI disk controllers
in CloudStack over VMware hypervisor.

This is specific to VMware hypervisor only. The code changes are in area of
vmware resource.

All changes are being tracked using JIRA ticket [3] with code in ACS branch
'vmware-disk-controllers'.
Please see [2[ for Functional specification which was discussed in proposal
thread [1] below and talk [4] held at CCC EU 2014, Budapest.

Currently CloudStack supports following combinations only.
 * DATA volumes - SCSI controller (LSI Logic Parallel) - Hard coded in
source code, no option for user to edit/choose the controller type
 * ROOT volumes - IDE or SCSI (LSI Logic Parallel) - Baed on value of global
configuration parameter "vmware.root.disk.controller"

For some guest operating systems like Windows 2012 R2, deploying instances with
LSI Parallel controller might result in failure to boot as guest OS vendor is
not shipping the OS with LSI Logic parallel drivers.
OS Vendor is supporting/shipping LSI SAS controller as preferred.

CloudStack should provide administrator the means to choose the type of disk
controller (including sub types listed in introduction section above) for an
instance. The controller to be used by VM to access virtual disk (volume) can
decided for various reasons. Some of them are listed here,
* Some controllers are optimized for best performance over specific backend
infrastructure like SAN. Ex: VMware Paravirtual SCSI
*Compatibility of some controllers with VM's virtual hardware version or
guest operating system.
*Operating system vendor recommendation and default set of drivers
distributed as part of operating system image. Ex: Windows 8.1 ISO doesn't have
Lsi Logic Parallel SCSI drivers by default. Hence a virtual disk attached to
this controller won't accessible during installation of OS using the ISO.

Now CloudStack provides administrator options to specify disk controllers to
use for user instances at various ways.
1) Global configuration settings
2) Template settings (during registration of template)
3) Option to enable auto detection of the recommended disk controller for the
instance's guest operating system by vendor and applicable virtual hardware
version.

Please let me know your comments.

Regards,
Sateesh

Hi Michael,

further clarification; CS adds the data disk to the VM but since it's listed as
SCSI device 0:0, the vm is unable to find it when you

do a disk rescan.
Yes, due to absence of LSI Logic Parallel driver in the guest, the virtual disk
goes undetected.

Currently for all data volumes, of user instance deployed by CloudStack, are
attached to LSI Logic Parallel controller. And this is not
configurable, which is be a blocker for most recent versions of Windows OS like
Windows 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 which does not
ship/pack LSI Logic Parallel driver by default, which means all virtual disks
attached to this controller would not detected.

Support for choice of controllers is in progress and expected to be available
in CloudStack 4.6 release.
I am going to talk about proposal to address this and implementation details in
CloudStack Collaboration Conference scheduled
next week at Budapest, Hungary.

feature is [2]

Re: API response change command=deleteIso

2015-01-14 Thread Rohit Yadav

Hi,

I think we have had such fixes before and it won't break anyone's
client's unless they rely on hardcoded response keys. Most clients such
as CloudMonkey or Marvin would look for returned response under a key
that has a "response" substring so this change should not break them.
I'm not sure about the UI though. Brian, Jessica may comment on that.

Use constant-time comparison functions when checking signatures

This limits the likeliness of timing attacks against the API.
See http://codahale.com/a-lesson-in-timing-attacks/ for the
full rationale.

You can merge this pull request into a Git repository by running:

$ git pull https://github.com/exoscale/cloudstack feature/constant-time

Alternatively you can review and apply these changes as the patch at:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/65.patch

I'll note here that this can be applied to 4.4 and 4.3 as well, modulo some

Neat. +1

I would suggest moving this to utils instead of api. The api directory or
artifact should hold only contracts, commands and interfaces, if this is in
utils it could be re-usable (or maybe not) in future.

Tested with CloudMonkey/Marvin, most sane clients should not break who
search for objects in a "xyzresponse" key. This also fixes the UI so we're good.

Google search resulted 8 places where "deleteisosresponse" was used. Such
fixes have been done in the past. The impact is low, also because it's an async
api.

Response before;
{ "deleteisosresponse" : {"jobid":"aef086a9-ceb6-4af1-9b01-44a130dc6a16"} }

Response after the fix;
{ "deleteisoresponse" : {"jobid":"0fd02b7f-0a14-4ef2-8dc5-932a9ee30004"} }

This happens on a new installation of Citrix CloudPlatform 4.5.0 as well.

If anyone has time, we should check if this happens on ACS 4.5 and fix it

I solved the issue and it seems related to MySQL

What mysql version are/were you running?

I just confirmed that the SQL query is accepted on MySQL 5.1, but not on
MySQL 5.6.
I guess they became a bit more strict somewhere in between.

Adding absolute references solves it.

See PR #67 for a fix

RE: weird db setup issue

2015-01-14 Thread Raja Pullela
Sebastien,

Can you check your MySQL version ? Is it 5.6.22 or above ?
There was an issue with MySQL 5.6.22 - where in the SQL file mentioned returns
an error, runs fine on MySQL 5.6.21 and below.
You can downgrade/install the MySQL that is packaged with 4.5.0 OR update the
SQL to include the "use cloud" before the SQL command.

This happens on a new installation of Citrix CloudPlatform 4.5.0 as well.

If anyone has time, we should check if this happens on ACS 4.5 and fix it

Subject: [ovsdb-dev] CloudStack & OVSDB?

Hi all,

I saw Hugo Trippaers' presentation from last year's FOSDEM about using OVSDB
and CloudStack.

As some of you may have noticed, I was looking for someone to document using
OpenDaylight with CloudStack for the new "Using OpenDaylight"
section of the wiki:
https://wiki.opendaylight.org/view/CloudStack_and_OpenDaylight

Is there anyone here who's familiar with this who can help document Helium with
CloudStack 4.4, please?

Thanks,
Dave.

[SOLUTION] CloudStack 4.3.1 some VMs would get stopped continuously

2015-01-14 Thread ilya musayev
I've seen an issue where cloudstack would stop some VMs after they have
been started. Posting the solution for whoever comes across this problem.

I've noticed following pattern:

VM was trying to be migrated to another host while another thread would
stop the VM within 10 minutes of the start time.

The solution was to look for a message in the log that has
"(981,VmWorkJobQueue, 2371) is reaching concurrency limit 1" continuously.

Delete the reference id of "2371" from cloud.sync_queue_item
Delete the reference id of "981" from cloud.sync_queue

Re: [VOTE] Apache CloudStack 4.5.0 RC1

+1 (binding)

Brought up a basic zone using devcloud4(Centos 6and XenServer
6.2.0-70446c), everything worked without issue system vms came up and
their agent connected.

Added Nux's macchinina distribution as a template.
Added Ubuntu as a template. (Loved the HVM checkbox addition to the UI).

Successfully brought up a VM both based on both the templates.
Password retrieval worked, root resize worked.

Brought up a web server on one of the VMs and opened a security group
rule. The rule applied successfully.

Brought up an advanced zone again using devcloud4 so centos 6 and
XenServer 6.2.0-70446c. Just like with the 4.4 release marvin fails to
set the traffic tags for the public/management/storage/guest networks.
I skipped over this small detail and set them manually.

After this everything was fine, added a machine based on Nux's
macchinina template, password retrieval worked. Brought up a web
server on it, did nat forwarding. All worked without issue.

Great work on this release folks!

CloudStack Quality Process meeting 14 jan 2014

2015-01-14 Thread Daan Hoogland
H,

A little report on this afternoons meeting:

We mainly spoke on the minimal functionality that should not be
touched by new commits. A list was made at [1]. Next we agreed to
finalize this list next week by working through maven projects (and
possibly documetation chapters) and to start grinding down on the gate
specification and ipossibly implementation.[2]. It was a small
committee. Hopefully this is indicative of people doing real work and
not of the spin this initiative has ;)

StaticNat does not get disassociated from tier when plugin fails to enable the static NAT

2015-01-14 Thread Suresh Ramamurthy
Hi Jayapal,

In NuageVsp integration, we found that when NuageVsp plugin fails to enable
a StaticNat in
VPC, StaticNat does not get disassociated from tier. When I looked in to
the code, I found that there is a field performedIpAssoc in
enableStaticNat() method.

This field is initialized to false and not set to true after calling
ipAddress = _ipAddrMgr.associateIPToGuestNetwork(ipId, networkId, false);

So, this is value always false and when plugin fails
_vpcMgr.unassignIPFromVpcNetwork(ip.getId(), networkId); is never called.

But, in case of createPortForwardingRule(), similar variable is initialized
but
it is set to true after calling _ipAddrMgr.associateIPToGuestNetwork().

So, I tried the fix to set the flag to true after calling
associateIPTOGuestNetwork() for staticNat and things are working as
expected. When plugin fails, StaticNat gets disassociated from tier.

Please let me know if I am missing something.

Thanks,
Suresh

pnfs support?

2015-01-14 Thread John Kinsella
Somebody in the silicon valley meetup just asked about pNFS [1] - I’d never
heard of it, but sounds interesting and in theory would negate a lot of the
ugliness of NFS.

Curious if anybody else is familiar with it, or if there’s a general interest
in having support in ACS?

Secondary Storage Behavior

2015-01-14 Thread Kevin McGill
Hi All,

I'm working on a plugin to list all the data saved on a given secondary
storage. I've experienced some unexpected behavior in the process.

*Setup:*
 CS - 4.4.0
 Hypervisor - KVM
Storage - 2 secondary storage NFS mount points (/mnt/secondary, and
/mnt/secondary2)

All installed on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, on their own node in the same zone.

*Expected Behavior:*
*System VM Templates* - When additional secondary storage's are added,
System Templates are copied to the new secondary storages in the same zone.
*Iso's and Templates* - If public, loaded on ALL secondary storages in the
zone. If private, a secondary storage is chosen at random.
*Snapshots* - A secondary storage is chosen at random and all subsequent
snapshots will be on the secondary storage originally selected.

*Actual Behavior:*
*System VM Templates* - When additional secondary storage's are added,
System Templates are reflected in the data base as being on both mount
points however when exploring the directories the system templates are NOT
on the newly added secondary storage. Investigating the
'template_store_ref' tables in the DB there are, in fact, two
template_store_ref entries for each secondary storage both of which
reference the same 'vm_template'. I've given CS overnight to maybe complete
the copy or kick off any tasks to perform the copy but nothing came of it.
(causing my plugin to return UUID's of system templates that don't actually
reside on the given secondary storage)

*Iso's* (*Working as expected*)- If public, loaded on ALL secondary
storages in the zone. If private, a secondary storage is chosen at random.

*Templates* - Regardless of being Featured, Public, and/or Private a
secondary storage is chosen at random.

*Snapshots* - It appears a secondary storage is chosen at random.

Maybe I have a misunderstanding how secondary storage should work or maybe
I found a bug?

Any thoughts, suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Kevin McGill

Isn't that just a version of NFS 4.x? I believe it would "just work", at
least as a shared mount point with KVM.

I remember it being similar to ceph (or gluster) in a lot of ways, and
there's already good support there as well. I haven't honestly looked at
nfs 4.x in about 4 years, other than keeping up on Linux kernel notes about
patches to it.
