I did, lets hope I did it right :-)
@runseb or @pdion891 (or anyone else): do you think this should be applied
to 4.4/4.3 branches as well?

It's valid for 4.3 and 4.3 so go for it.

[VOTE] Apache Cloudstack 4.3.2

2014-12-15 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi All,

I've created a CloudStack 4.3.2 release, with the following artifacts up
for a vote:

Git Branch and Commit SHA:
https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=cloudstack.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/4.3
Commit: a15acb8e74d52bdd973f613c19dc3afd42771be4

List of changes:
https://git-wip-us.apache.org/repos/asf?p=cloudstack.git;a=blob_plain;f=CHANGES.md;hb=4.3

Source release (checksums and signatures are available at the same
location): https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/cloudstack/4.3.2/

PGP release keys (signed using 0EE3D884):
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/cloudstack/KEYS

For release testing procedure, please refer:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/CLOUDSTACK/Release+test+procedure

Building from source is encouraged but for those people who are not able to
build from source, a deb/rpm repository built out of this artifact is
available for your test participation:
http://packages.bhaisaab.org/cloudstack/testing/

To encourage participation instead of the usual 72 hours window the vote
will be open for 120 hours (5 days) and includes users MLs.

For sanity in tallying the vote, can PMC members please be sure to indicate
"(binding)" with their vote?

[ ] +1 approve
[ ] +0 no opinion
[ ] -1 disapprove (and reason why)

Regards,
Rohit Yadav

Bugs: CLOUDSTACK-8071

Repository: cloudstack-git

Description
---

The test case failed with "Api key does not map with valid account".
That is because the apiclient object was assigned previous account's value in
another test case.
It is important that all test cases use different account and their respective
api clients.
Made appropriate changes.

maybe we can wait to do this new -2 branch…because we would need to do it

DNS amplification attack to CloudStack VR running dnsmasq

2014-12-15 Thread Indra Pramana
Dear all,

We are using CloudStack 4.2.0 with KVM hypervisors.

Is there a way to prevent our virtual routers (VRs) to be targeted by DNS
amplification attack? It seems that the DNS services on dnsmasq running on
the VRs are by default recursive, causing it to easily be targeted for DNS
amplification attack.

Any advice on how to overcome this?

Looking forward to your reply, thank you.

Cheers.

2014-12-15 Thread Andrija Panic
Indra, did you observe this on Shared Network - I had same issue with
Shared Network (public IPs) in Advanced Zone.

I think VR for VPC is NOT a problem...

Re: DNS amplification attack to CloudStack VR running dnsmasq

2014-12-15 Thread Indra Pramana
Hi Andrija,

Yes, it's on a shared network with public IP in advanced zone. So far I
don't see similar issues on my VPC's VRs, but it could be because the IP is
not known, unlike the VR on a shared network which will automatically use
the second IP on the subnet after the gateway (e.g. x.x.x.2).

Is there a way to configure dnsmasq not to response to recursive queries?

Thank you.

We could not find any posted changes to the systemvm's, unless we are looking
in the wrong place. ;-)

Daan asked me to drop you a mail and explain a little bit where we have been
concentrating our efforts.

Most of the Java refactor is indeed what you saw, a refactor to make the code
more logical, eliminate duplication get the methods better aligned with the
classes and so on but that is not all.

We have also introduced a new way of sending the configuration to the systemvm
itself. Instead of calling scripts, a json file is passed to the server and
processed.

The processing is done by some python code (to be found in /opt/cloud/bin)

The idea is that it is a self healing convergence based system. We had planned
to use chef solo to do this but, it was just too slow.

If you spin up our branch and make your self a network and an instance, log on
to the VR and take a look in /etc/cloudstack and /var/cache/cloud/processed

It would be really interesting to use to maybe share ideas and work. It would
be such a shame if we are duplicating each other’s efforts!

If the vm is not on the hypervisor then set vm_instance to Expunged for that vm
in MySql. Please next time tell us what version of ACS and hypervisor and
version. Also logs will help us find your problem.
/var/log/cloudstack/management/ and the management log and cataylina log are
important.

[GitHub] cloudstack pull request: use directIO flags when dd'ing template

2014-12-15 Thread remibergsma
GitHub user remibergsma opened a pull request:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/58

use directIO flags when dd'ing template

This makes sure dom0 in xenserver doesn't get hammered
when copying templates. It doesn't make sense to use
the cache of dom0 as the template does not fit in
memory. The directIO flags prevents it from trying.

You can merge this pull request into a Git repository by running:

$ git pull https://github.com/remibergsma/cloudstack master

Alternatively you can review and apply these changes as the patch at:

https://github.com/apache/cloudstack/pull/58.patch

To close this pull request, make a commit to your master/trunk branch
with (at least) the following in the commit message:

This closes #58

The Project Management Committee (PMC) for Apache CloudStack has asked Erik
Weber to become a committer and we are pleased to announce that they have
accepted.

Erik is doing a great job on helping the community thru the mailing list.
He helped a lot on testing and troubleshooting new releases of CloudStack as
well as contributing to the documentation. Thanks Erik and Congrat!

Being a committer allows many contributors to contribute more autonomously. For
developers, it makes it easier to submit changes and eliminates the need to
have contributions reviewed via the patch submission process. Whether
contributions are development-related or otherwise, it is a recognition of a
contributor's participation in the project and commitment to the project and
the Apache Way.

Please join me in congratulating Erik

Potential feature: Firewall comments

2014-12-15 Thread Logan Barfield
Currently in the UI and API it can be difficult to tell what exactly a
particular firewall rule is being used for. I know that it is currently
possible to add "tags" to firewall rules, but that seems suboptimal from an
ease-of-use standpoint.

Would it be feasible to add a "comment" or "description" field for firewall
rules in advanced zones? It could be added as an extra DB column, and
appear in the UI and listFirewallRules API call (unless it's left blank).
In theory the description/comment could also be added to the IPtables rule
on the VR.

This could probably also be applied to security groups.

Thoughts, comments?

Repository: cloudstack-git

Changing few test cases to use the host username, password from the
configurableData section in test_data.py. Earlier they were reading the hard
coded value. Removed old host_password value from test_data.py

Also fixed few pep8 issues.
