Hypervisor. QCOW2 files support snapshots, so does RBD.

When using iSCSI we usually create a VG on top of the LUN and then we
can snapshot each LV which is mapped to a Instance.

KVM has the support, but there is a problem with the storage.

Snapshotting a disk is simple, that's supported by QCOW2, LVM, RBD, etc.

But when you want to snapshot a VirtualMachine you have to store the
 memory contents somewhere.

That is something that hasn't been worked out. Do you create a
additional 'disk' for storing the memory contents?

That's the barriers I currently know for implementing it.

Hey guys,

Time for some housekeeping. We have a number of plugins that have updates
pending and Jenkins it also a couple of versions behind.

I’m going to perform these updates today, so there might be some issues. If you

On Ubuntu CloudStack is unable to detect usage server

2014-11-06 Thread Rohit Yadav
Hi,

I tested ACS 4.2.1, 4.3.1 and 4.4.1; on Ubuntu/KVM the management server is
unable to detect (heartbeat of) running usage server on the same host. Has
anyone else faced this issue, is this a bug or some additional configuration
that needs to be done. In all cases, the usage server was able to connect to
MySQL server and no exception in its logs were seen.

Sorry it's not more clear. I asked on the dev list if this kind of change
needed a JIRA ticket, and my understanding was that it did not. If I
misunderstood, I'm happy to add one. I noticed this while debugging a separate
unrelated issue.

This is just making code maintenance a little easier. Right now, the code does
this:

doSomethingWithString("blah blah blah");
doSomethingElseWithString("blah blah blah");

If you wanted to change the string, you'd have to change it in both places, and
thus you might forget one, which would create inconsistent log messages
relative to the message in the exception that gets thrown.

So my change just moves the String into a variable and then uses that variable
in both places. Now changing the string means changing it once. And it does it
for a few places where that was true.

I hope that clarifies.

This is a bug https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CLOUDSTACK-6934, which
has been fixed in 4.5.0. The VM to be expunged did not allocate volume on
primary storage.

Thanks, After I looked at the CS source code. I worked around it by setting
a pool_id in the database in the volume table.

Yes, that is the workaround, just set pool_id to some dummy pool.

2014-11-06 Thread Mike Tutkowski
Hey everyone,

If a VM has been running on a host at some point, how can any of the
volumes it's associated with have a null for pool_id?

Thanks,

Not sure what you mean by "not properly deployed." Could you give me a bit
more detail on that? Thanks!

RE: Help in Adding XenServer to CS Management Server

2014-11-06 Thread Ritu Sabharwal
Hi Nitin,

I did build the systemvm.iso again and verified that the system.iso is the
latest one on SSVM by checking the timestamp. I still don't see the health
check script on SSVM.

The CS MS GUI shows the state of SSVM as "Running". I am not able to login to
SSVM from the Xen host or CS MS but I can directly login to SSVM using it's own
console.

Please suggest what should be the next steps to try to get this working.

Thanks & Regards,
Ritu S.

The SSVM and CPVM are running but I don't see any health check

I get no route to host error.

Please provide help in resolving these errors.

 Hi,

I could move ahead with the issues and see the SSVM and CPVM coming

But when I try to create a user VM I still don't see the default

What could be the problem here? Any suggestions?

I'm also seeing that. The only indication I see is in the mgmt logs:

This is on Ubuntu 14.04 and 4.4.0 ACS. I'm at a trade show right now, but
I'll see if I can poke at this a bit.

Thanks to everyone participating. I will now prepare the release announcement
to go out after 24 hours to give the mirrors time to catch up.

Can any of the PMC members help move the voting artifact to releases:

svn mv -m "Publishing Apache CloudStack CloudMonkey 5.3.0 release"

I’ll release the artifact to pypi shortly. Thanks.
