Regression: Can't print on CD, inserted in CD-tray with Canon ip4000
  printer (on Feisty)

Status in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Backports:
  Invalid
Status in “gutenprint” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in “gutenprint” package in Baltix:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Canon ip4000 printer always tries to print on paper, even when I choose
CD-Tray in printer settings (on feisty) :(
This is a regression, because there was no problems with Canon Pixma ip4000
on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy), also I got successful results when installed gutenprint
5.0.0 (from Edgy) in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty).

Also I tried to use gutenprint 5.0.1 backported from Gutsy to Feisty
(backported gutenprint packages are at official Baltix GNU/Linux
  repository - http://ftp.akl.lt/baltix-linux/Baltix-Ubuntu-
packages/feisty/gutenprint/ ) and noticed, that with 5.0.1 CD printing
works, but with gutenprint from Feisty and Gutsy Canon Pixma ip4000
prints wrong colors and has other bugs, like horizontal white lines in
bigger blue areas, also some yellow or red object are printed blurry
  :(

So, this bug should be fixed at least in Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) by
including backported gutenprint 5.0.1 into official ubuntu-backports
  repositories.

That's it! I really wish that this applet provides, at least, a button
saying "Detail...", through which, a window can be displayed to show
the problem detail. I think, the applet above is reporting a problem
that was also recorded somewhere in dmesg output, right? If it is so,
I would suggest that the portion of dmesg output that indicates the
problem can be seen through the button "Detail..." above. In the
current approach, the output may try to be as "friendly" as possible
to the laymen in computer by hiding the "Greeks" from them. But as a
power user, it's hard for me to figure out what went wrong. I hate
parsing through dmesg output (you know how long it is, and it's like
finding a needle in the haystack).

This time I just don't know what package to associate the problem
  with. Sorry about this.

I'm referring to Ubuntu 7.04 here. I suppose 7.10 also still behaves
  the same, right?

FYI: I upgraded to Hardy to be able to point people at bugs, if needed. So I
am aware of the pre-alpha status of Hardy.

When Firefox-3.0 is set as the default browser for Gnome (System,
Preferences, Preferred Applications) all applications use the correct
browser. However, I have my workspaces nicely arranged, and my browser
  is in workspace 2.

When clicking a link (to open it) in gnome-terminal or Evolution, the
Firefox-3.0 window moves to the workspace where I clicked the link.
But I don't want the window to move, I want to move to the workspace
  where I left the window.

  IMHO, this is a bug.

  Thanks!

  4. continue typing your password thinking everything is normal

  Actual results:

  Expected results:

  Does this happen every time?
Yes. Yes. Yes. It has taken me so long to figure out I had to consult a
psychiatrist about my "I feel the urge to enter my password, erase it, and
  enter it again" problems.

  Other information:
I will attach a short ogg theora video demonstrating the problem. Oh, and I'm
filing this bug report on GPM instead of gnome screensaver, because
this never happens if I simply lock the screen. It only happens if I come

one example, there may be more:

When you middle-click the "Maximize" button
- in compiz, the window is maximized vertically

  Hi,

xinit needs to gain ConsoleKit integration just like GDM has ConsoleKit
integration as more and more parts of the GNOME/FreeDesktop desktops are
relying on it to grant access to DBus services:
  /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf:

  /etc/dbus-1/system.d/nm-applet.conf:
  /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf:
  /etc/dbus-1/system.d/NetworkManager.conf:

There are some upstream patches which don't seem to work in all cases.

This is critical for UME as it launches the hildon-desktop via startx.

  Malayalam: is a pre-processor required?

Status in “texlive-bin” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: texlive-lang-indic

The description for texlive-lang-indic says, "malayalam -- Fonts for
  typesetting Malayalam, with a pre-processor."

Does this mean that the pre-processor is required? If so, is it
  included in the package?

The malayalam package and help file (mm-usr-0.9.6.pdf) over at sarovar
  (http://sarovar.org/frs/?group_id=17&release_id=795) indicate that the
LaTeX file gets saved as a .mm file. Then the the script mal is run
on that .mm file. The resulting output is a .tex file that can be
processed with latex or pdftex. BUT, the mal script and the mlym
binary that it calls are not packaged with texlive-lang-indic.

If i grab the latest version malayalam-0.9.6.tar.gz from sarovar and
install it, then i have the mal script and mlym binary. But I had
expected them to be installed with texlive-lang-indic since
/usr/bin/devnag and /usr/bin/ebong are installed as part of texlive-
  lang-indic.

This is all with Ubuntu 7.10 and texlive-lang-indic 2007-12ubuntu3.1.

This is a bug I've had consistently on multiple computers since I
began using Emerald (I believe back in Edgy):

When I edit an emerald theme in the emerald-theme-manager then save
it, it gives me a dialog box saying "Theme saved." I click "OK" and
emerald-theme-manager becomes unresponsive (goes dark) for a few
seconds then crashes. This happens maybe 90% of the time.

I'm currently using hardy beta and emerald 0.7.2-0ubuntu2

Status in “emacs22” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “emacs23” package in Ubuntu:

Status in “erc” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: erc

When ERC loses a connection and then regains it, if I have channels
open on another server as well, it will reconnect to the other
  server's channels, too.

  To reproduce (clumsily):

  M-x erc-select server1
  M-x erc-select server2
  In the server1:ircd buffer:
  /join #onetest
  In the server2:ircd buffer:
  /join #twotest

(This was slightly rearranged to cope with a related bug in new
  versions of Erc.)

Now jerk the connection to server2, or (as a rough approximation) kill
  the associated buffer server2:ircd

  M-x kill-buffer server2:ircd

  Then reconnect:

  M-x erc-select server2

  Expected result:

ERC should rejoin #twotest on server2 but no other channels.

  Actual result:

ERC joins back on #twotest but in addition joins #onetest on server2
(sic), resulting in a new buffer #onetest<2> (assuming you have the
variable `uniquify-buffer-name-style' set to its default value).

  Reproducible:

  Always

I guess the list of active channels does not contain the information about
which server a channel is on, or the information is simply not used when
reconnecting to lost channels.

disappears and the screen returns to normal brightness, but then the
password dialog shows again for a second and disappears. Note that
this may happen because of a slow computer - 866Mhz here.

Status in “libvncserver” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gdm

I have been starting x11vnc from within /etc/gdm/Init/Default for
sometime now. After re-building my machine, going from Gutsy i386 to
Hardy Beta amd64 my x11vnc no longer continues to run post login.

  Versions:
  gdm 2.20.5-0ubuntu2
  x11vnc 0.9.3.dfsg.1-1ubuntu1

  What I have done:
edit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf, in the [daemon] section, set KillInitClients=false
edit /etc/gdm/Init/Default, added "/etc/init.d/x11vnc start" at the top
before the gdmwhich function.

My /etc/init.d/x11vnc file executes using these environment variables:
  NAME=x11vnc
  DAEMON=/usr/bin/x11vnc
  PIDFILE="/var/run/$NAME.pid"
  AUTHFILE="/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth"
  LOGFILE="/var/log/$NAME.log"
  VNCUSERS="`/bin/sed -n '/gdmauth/s/^.*://p' /etc/group | /bin/sed 's/,/,+/' |
/bin/sed 's/^/+/'`"
  RFBAUTH="/etc/vnc/passwd"
X11VNC_ARGS="-forever -xrandr -bg -nobell -auth $AUTHFILE -usepw -rfbauth
$RFBAUTH -o $LOGFILE -input KMBCF -noxdamage -display :0.0"

x11vnc is started fine on start of gdm, but the process is terminated
  when I log in.

In the x11vnc.log file I see this when I log in:

  caught XIO error:
  15/04/2008 14:12:17 deleted 50 tile_row polling images.

So possibly this is a bug in x11vnc and not gdm, but I do not know.

What other information can I provide?

  Thanks.

Default behaviour for new windows is to start with the user's default
keyboard layout. However, gksu inherits the keyboard layout used by the window
that had focus when gksu started. The user does not expect this behaviour since
it contradicts the default behaviour of other windows, and most of the time the
gksu prompt is totally unrelated to the focused window (when starting an
administrative application from the System menu, for example), which further
adds to the user's confusion.
As a side note, I believe most users pick a Latin-script password (since
virtually every computer supports it), so having gksu start with a different
keyboard layout is totally useless for most users.

JNLP has the element, allowing web start apps to
register with the host desktop and browser as the handler for certain
file extensions and mime types. On Gutsy, this functionality does not
  exist.

  Steps to repro:
  1. I will upload a minimal web start project having the element
set to
  2. execute ant jws-run which will install the app. The app behavior isn't
relevant, we just want javaws to install and register it.
  3. In Nautilus, locate file "delme.fribid".
Expected behavior: Nautilus knows that javaws is the registered app to
open ".fribid" files
Actual behavior: Nautilus detects delme.fribid as a text file.

  4. Copy the file delme.fribid to an Apache web server
  5. On the web server edit /etc/mime.types, add the line
"application/x-fribbity fribid"
  6. Using Firefox on the Gutsy system, surf to the delme.fribid file
  Expected behavior: Firefox launches javaws
Actual behavior: Firefox treats it as an unknown file type.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Today my rhythmbox was upgraded to 0.9.8 by feisty beta. Now when I
play my queue, it doesn't matter if "shuffle" is pressed or not - the
songs are played in the order they stand there. Pressing shuffle also
doesn't change the order. When I delete all songs from the queue and
play the library on shuffle that works fine. Before the upgrade I
  didn't have the problem.

  EDIT:
To be precise, it was upgraded to 0.9.8-0ubuntu3. I don't know which version
it was before, probably also a 0.9.8.

  Steps to reproduce:
Put some songs into your queue and play them with shuffle turned on.

The PKCS #12 operation failed for unknown reasons.

This happens with Firefox 3, but also (after downgrading Firefox) with
version 2. I don't think that this is a firefox problem.
Using client certificates which were imported before the upgrade is no
problem.
Importing CA-certificates is also no problem. It applies only to user
certificates (those who contain the private key).

My workaround was to import the certificates on an older system (not
Hardy) and then copying the ".mozilla" directory from there to my home
directory on the Hardy system. Of cause this is annoying.

I have a Wacom Volito 2 and am using Ubuntu 7.04. In both 6.06 en 6.10
I was able to set the second button of my Wacom pen to doubleclick
using the following code in xorg.conf:

  Option"Button2""17"

However, this code doesn't work anymore in Ubuntu 7.04. Using
'xsetwacom list param" I found out that I had to use the following
code in the console to set my stylus to doubleclick:

xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "dblclick 1"

But that doens't work... also the following codes don't work:

xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "dblclick 0"
xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "dblclick 1"
xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "dblclick 2"
  xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "2"
  xsetwacom set stylus Button2 "17"

I hope this can be fixed, since a single button for doubleclicking is
way easier than tapping twice or tapping once and using the return
  button.

If I have several buddies who are the same person, and I merge them,
and I then alias that merged buddy, I expect my chosen name to
persist, whichever of the individual accounts is online. What actually
seems to happen is that clicking "Alias..." on the container just
picks one member to store the alias against, and then if that member
is offline and others are online, the name of an online member is used
instead, giving the impression that the my chosen alias has been lost.
I think aliasing a merged buddy needs to either store the alias
separately from the members, such that it applies to all of them, or
simply apply the alias to all members.

Sometimes I try to download stuff from Rapidshare, but the links are
not active. Instead, there seem to be several lines of text like this:

  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part1.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part2.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part3.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part4.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part5.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part6.rar
  http://rapidshare.com/files/x.part7.rar

Since they can't be clicked, I select all the text in one line and
drag it to the favicon to the left of the URL bar. That brings the
save dialogue, and I proceed to do the same with the second line.

Once I tried to select all seven lines at the same time and drag them
to the favicon, hoping it would open all seven URLs in seven tabs, but
it didn't work. Since this is a case I encounter quite often, could
  this behaviour be implemented?

Could dragging text with line breaks open several tabs?

  What I did:
  - I installed Kubuntu 8.04 (I always update when Adept_updater suggests it)
in parallel with WinXPSP2, which is installed on NTFS partitions.
  - I used Firefox to save some webpages directly on a NTFS partition. These
webpages had colons (":") in their title so FF used that as file/directory
names. I justed clicked on "save".
  - I right-clicked the directory where I saved all these files an chose
compress to ZIP.
  - The Ark status windows comes. It seems like it is proceeding (the rectangle
in the bar goes from the left to the right and back all the time) but the
hard-drive doesn't do anything.

In Windows, 7zip says that it can't open that directories. However, I
can see them in the Windows Explorer but I can't rename them there. I
have to do that in Kubuntu. When I have removed the colons there by
renaming, everything works as it should.

As far as I know, NTFS internally uses a colon to seperate the
(hidden) ADS part from the rest of the filename.

I know that Linux and MS are completely different worlds, but in my opionion
as user:
  - NTFS-3G shouldn't allow colons in filenames.
  - Applications like Firefox shouldn't suggest names with colons (or should
have at least an option in the settings to change that)
  - Ark should abort trying to open these files and notify me.

gksu, gnome-sudo, and kdesudo are all packages that provide the same
functionality: they provide a graphical interface to sudo that allows
the user to gain root privileges. Which one depends on the default
desktop environment, but from the standpoint of the program that needs
root privileges, they are fungible. However, most GUI programs guess,
hardcode, or depend upon a particular sudo GUI. Sometimes they get the
answer wrong, which causes needless breakage and aggravation.

The various graphical interfaces to sudo should create a link to
x-sudo in the /etc/alternatives directory. Then, other GUI programs
can simply point to x-sudo instead of trying to [guess | parse |
hardlink] which desktop environment happens to be in charge at the
  moment.

Such a solution would also help OEMs who want to give their customers
a choice in desktop environments but also install various desktop-
agnostic configuration scripts or programs. In particular, oem-config
would be able to point to x-sudo irrespective of whether GNOME, KDE3,
KDE4, XFCE, fluxbox, or a private label desktop environment is
  installed.

Using client certificates which were imported before the upgrade is no

My workaround was to import the certificates on an older system (not
Hardy) and then copying the ".mozilla" directory from there to my home

  Hello,

I have a document, created with OOo 2.1, edited with OOo 2.2 (after
upgrading to Feisty) which has four embedded EPS graphics (linked to
  external files).

Everytime I scroll over these images, Openoffice shows an empty box
with "Broken image" inside it (translated back from German, maybe
different wording), then freezes completely for two seconds, while
refreshing the EPS image. During this time the CPU usage is at 100%. I
would expect OOo to cache these files (at least the rendered images)
so they "stay" in the text, like it does with other graphics formats.
It seems this does not happen.

"strace" shows that Openoffice is indeed hanging in a "read(...)"
call, with a file handle that belongs to the linked object (EPS file).
But I don't understand why it takes two seconds for Openoffice to open
  a 20kb EPS file.

As you might imagine, this is extremely annoying. I am preparing a
scientific paper with Openoffice and so far it has been very pleasant
to work with, almost up to par with LaTeX :-), except for this major
  annoyance.

I can provide the document in question, but I would ask not to publish
  it in the bugtracker.

  Thank you!

  Jens

maximized. Everything works fine if pixmaps buttons are disabled or

(which I'm putting together for an group I'm part of) working by
editing the Device section of of /etc/X11/xorg.conf to have Option
"NoDDC" "true". This no longer works in Hardy and thus the laptop is
a paperweight with Hardy. (vesa driver doesn't work either, for
  either)

The display adaptor built into the laptop is a Trident CyberBlade/i1

A fresh install of Hardy does not solve the problem. Only reverting
to Gutsy and editing xorg.conf does.

In fact for Gutsy it is necessary to install an xorg.conf that has
NoDDC before the initial installation of xserver.org is made or else
the installer hangs with a blank screen during the configuration of
  that package.

This makes Ubuntu unsuitable for distribution with this laptop as it'd
be far too easy for someone to end up with a non-working system, and
depending on who gets it (it's a donation that's being raffled off), I
may not be close enough to support the end user in case of trouble.

Bug description:

If using "\=" and "\^" commands for accents after which later in the
word comes "-" with "xelatex" run, characters between accents and "-"
are repeated twice, so, e.g., if entered this: "Uj\=unul-eser" one
gets this as a result: "Ujûnul-nul-eser" instead of "Ujûnul-eser".
Jonathan said that this was a bug that was fixed around August 20,
2007, but it seems that it is still present in Hardy version of
texlive-xetex. Choice of font doesn't influence the result, it is same
for .otf, .ttf, pfb. Plain LaTeX hasn't this problem.

  This happens on:
Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron final, 64bit
texlive 2007 from Hardy's main repo
  package texlive-xetex 2007.dfsg.1-2.

On Gutsy this problem didn't happen. Also, texlive-xetex 2007.dfsg.1-3
from Debian Sid doesn't have this problem.

Here is sample code for "xelatex" run:

  \documentclass[a4paper,10pt]{scrbook}

  \usepackage{xunicode}
  \usepackage[no-sscript]{xltxtra}

Yes, I could turn things down before I shutdown. But then when I boot up I
get know sound when I would like it.
Could it be possible or GDM to sence the SHIFT or CNTRL SHIFT keys at startup
and no play sound? Then when the system is logged in, it restores the sounds
to the corectl levels or simple doesn't play the sound when those keys are
pressed at login. I would love the idea to be implemented.

Pidgin has a script named check_po.pl. I'm submitting it here in case it'd be
useful as part of the intltool suite. I'll upload it as an attachment once
this
  bug is created.

  One of our translators said:

I think "msgfmt -c" only finds hard errors in .po files. In most cases,
the "msgfmt -c" errors prevent the compilation, if they are not fixed:

  An example:

  #: ../src/ft.c:442
  #, c-format
  msgid "%s is not a valid filename.\n"
msgstr "%s ist kein gültiger Dateiname."

Because of the missing line ending ("\n") the file can not be
  compiled.

  $ msgfmt -c de.po
de.po:2121: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'
  msgfmt: found 1 fatal error

  $ make
  file=`echo de | sed 's,.*/,,'`.gmo  && rm -f $file &&
  /usr/bin/msgfmt -o $file de.po
de.po:2121: `msgid' and `msgstr' entries do not both end with '\n'
  /usr/bin/msgfmt: found 1 fatal error
  *** Error code 1

check_po.pl is more a "lint" tool for gettext. It finds very much
possible problems in .po files (from check_po.pl):

  # Various checks on po file translations:
  # - printf-style format strings;
  # - differences in trailing newlines;
  # - empty (non-fuzzy) msgid;
  # - likely whitespace errors on joining multi-line entries
  # Ignores all fuzzy entries.
  #
  # Options:
  # -x Don't do standard checks above (eg, just check one of below).
  # -n Check newlines within strings; ie, that have equal numbers
  # of newlines in msgstr and msgid. (Optional because this may
  # happen legitimately.)
  # -w Check leading whitespace. Sometimes whitespace is simply
  # spacing (eg, for widget labels etc), or punctuation differences,
  # so this may be ok.
  # -W Check trailing whitespace. See -w above.
  # -p Check trailing punctuation.
  # -c Check capitalization of first non-whitespace character
  # (only if [a-zA-Z]).
  # -e Check on empty (c.q. new) msgstr

I use both tools with the following options:

  msgfmt:

  $ LANG=C msgfmt --check --check-accelerators=_ -c de.po

This does the standard checks (-c|--check) and also checks presence of
  keyboard accelerators for menu items.

  check_po.pl:

  ./check_po.pl -xnwWpce de.po

This does not do the standard checks (because I don't want to see all
the "*** Possible non-whitespace line-join problem in msgstr" warnings -
I think this are false-positives). But it checks for other problems like
different trailung punctuations. See above for the meanings of the other
  switches.

Title:
laptop will not sleep after idle time

Status in Gnome Powermanager:
  Invalid
Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When my laptop is on mains it sleeps in accordance with gnome-power-
manager's settings. That is, if I've set it to sleep after 20 minutes
of inactivity, it does precisely that. However, while on battery power
this does not happen. The screen is blanked, but the computer never
goes into suspend. The weird thing is that the screensaver never kicks
in (instead the screen goes blank whether gpm is running or not), so
this might actually be a problem with gnome-screensaver. I'm not sure.

For testing purposes I set gnome-screensaver to activate the
screensaver after 1 minute of inactivity, and gpm to suspend the
computer after 2 minutes of inactivity. I will attach the output of

  LC_ALL="en_US.utf8" gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --debug power
  --verbose & sleep 4m && killall gnome-power-manager && gnome-
  screensaver-command -p

Please do tell me if and how I can provide additional information.
This bug is really annoying as it has resulted in me returning to my
laptop several times only to find it completely drained on battery.

I'm currently on an up-to-date hardy install.

  WORKAROUND:
Looking through gconf, I saw that
/apps/gnome-power-manager/actions/sleep_type_battery is set to 'nothing'
instead of 'suspend'. Setting it to suspend caused the computer to sleep after
2 minutes idle.

When installing a new application for the first time, the new menu
entry doesn't appear immediately. You have to log out and log back in
again. However, installing further applications works fine.

To reproduce (on a clean Gutsy system):

  1. Create a new user:

  $ sudo adduser bob

  2. Log in as "bob"

  3. Install the sample .desktop file:

$ xdg-desktop-menu install test-test.desktop

  4. Notice that no entry appears in the Applications->Accessories menu.

  5. Log out and log back in again.

  6. Menu item is now visible.

From this point on, any further programs added show up immediately.

As an alternative to logging out, running alacarte and then
immediately quitting it also makes the new entry appear.

problem. This bug is specific to firefox 3, and did not occur in

  Remote desktop interferes with relogin

Status in “rdesktop” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Remote desktop seems to be interfering with the login process.
Several users are reporting this problem on the forums. Visit
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=691561 for details.

  Steps to reproduce.
Open remote desktop (or check remote desktop preferences to see if remote
login is enabled.)
Logout out of gnome, try to log in again.
Credentials are accepted and you reach a brown screen with a working mouse.
(no click responses though since there is nothing else)
Break out of X with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and try again. Same thing happens.
(If you have KDE/Xfce and try to login, these work fine, so this is a
gnome-centered thing)
Break out of X and restart the computer (Or press F13 if you have that key)
  Try to login. Success!!!
  Lougout and login again. FAILURE.

  relevant part of ~/.xsession-errors:

Gtk-WARNING **: This process is currently running setuid or setgid.
This is not a supported use of GTK+. You must create a helper
program instead. For further details, see:

  http://www.gtk.org/setuid.html

  Refusing to initialize GTK+.

  [Temporary] Fix
  Log into Gnome.
  Navigate to System->Preferences->Remote Desktop
Untick the "allow remote login" check box. (This disables remote-desktop)
Log out of Gnome. Login again. SUCCESS!!!

The problem must then be related to rdesktop.

Need a "Shared Folders" menu item like we had with shares-admin.

Status in “nautilus-share” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “nautilus-share” package in Baltix:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus-share

I'm referring to the "System > Administration > Shared Folder" on the top
toolbar.
This bug is not related to the right click menu or anything in the nautilus
file browser interface.

There are two reasons to bring back this menu item:

  1) Many users are expecting the menu item to be there.
They may spend a lot of time looking for it.

  2) We need a good place to find all of the things that are being shared.
For example, with a laptop you should make sure nothing is shared before you
connect to random wireless networks.

In firefox 3.0 beta 5 (on Hardy) firefox crashes (without showing an
  apport screen)

On firefox 2.0/Epiphany with mozilla 1.8 (on another computer with no
ubuntu) it shows: "This image can not be displayed because it contains
  errors"

This is clearly a regression that should be solved.
