[Desktop-packages] [Bug 160264] Re: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked
I used to have this issue but have not experienced it for years. Currently running a clean install of 12.10 with the recommended nvidia driver (304.51) with no problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160264 Title: [nvidia] compiz displays white screen when locked Status in The Dell Project: Fix Released Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “gdm” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in “linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-180” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “compiz” source package in Hardy: Fix Released Status in “gdm” source package in Hardy: Invalid Status in “gnome-screensaver” source package in Hardy: Invalid Status in “linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24” source package in Hardy: Won't Fix Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers-180” source package in Hardy: Fix Released Status in “xorg-server” source package in Hardy: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: compiz My computer has two users, and they are often logged onto X simultaneously. I am one of the users and I use compiz. The problem is that when I lock my screen and switch to other VT (using ctrl+alt+fN or Fast User Switch Applet), then back to mine I get a white screen instead of Gnome unlock dialog. However, the mouse pointer still exists and even changes to cursor-like when I point the area where password text box should be located. I am able then to enter my password (the screen remains completely white) and to press enter. After that I am returned to my desktop as if nothing has happened. I'm running Gutsy. compiz version is 1:0.6.0+git20071008-0ubuntu1.1. I have an nvidia video card with nvidia-glx-new 100.14.19+2.6.22.4-14.9 installed. TEST CASE: 1. install hardy on a system with nvidia hardware 2. install proprietary nvidia driver 3. run compiz 4. create a additional user B 5. use the "fast-user-switching" applet to switch to that user B 6. switch back to user A 7. verify that the screen is white 1. install compiz-core from hardy-proposed 2. restart the X session 3. use the "fast-user-switching" applet to switch to user B 4. switch back to user A 9. verify that the screeen is not white 10. verify that you can not break out of the lock (compare to bug #145123) by pressing key combinations like "alt-tab", "ctrl-alt-arrow" etc 11. Verify that no notifcation daemon message appear when the screen is locked over the log (see comment #95) Steps to reproduce : 1. Login to user 1 2. Use the fast user switcher applet to login to user 2 3. Logout from user 2 session Result : You get a white screen. You have to type your password and the white screen will disappears. Upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and lost my audio. I am using nvidia HDMI. I tried the workaround referenced above with no luck. I tried a bunch of different nvidia drivers with no luck. I will get the information Raymond requested later today (don't have time right now). Daniel, I am not sure why alsa would not be at the latest version. Synaptic reports alsa-base version is 1.0.25+dfsg- 0ubuntu4 and that the latest version is the same. The alsa-utils package is 1.0.27.1-1ubuntu1 however. I ran "sudo apt-get update" and there was no change. I am attaching my /etc/apt/sources.list. I also have /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list containing the line "deb http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable main". ** Attachment added: "/etc/apt/sources.list" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1256646/+attachment/3921425/+files/sources.list -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256646 Title: [ASUS M3N78-VM, Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Sound stopped working on upgrade from 13.4 to 13.10. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1263326] [NEW] Formula values not updated automatically
Public bug reported: I am planning on attaching an example spreadsheet which demonstrates the issue. The example spreadsheet is a checkbook where the account is split into three categories. Then there is a 'Total' category which is the sum of the transactions in the other categories. The idea is to have virtual subaccounts in the checkbook. When you open the example you will see that cells H6 and I6 are not being calculated and display #VALUE instead. However, if you do something which causes Calc to re- calculate the cells, the value will display fine. For example if you sort the rows based on the date column. Another trigger is to re-copy the formulas for D6 and E6 by selecting D5 and E5 and pulling the formula down. The issue can be reproduced by entering another line in the checkbook (all the formulas are already entered through row 1000). Entering the date in A6 causes the formulas to become live. There is a further issue with this spreadsheet in column F. Column F is an indicator that the bank has reflected the transaction to facilitate balancing the checkbook. You will notice that F4 and F5 contain the string 'x ', that is 'x' followed by two spaces. Unfortunately I have only entered 'x' into these cells. Every time the spreadsheet is saved, closed and re-opened another space is appended to these cells. I haven't been successful re-producing this phenomena in another spreadsheet and I am not sure if it is related to the issue above. These issues appeared with the upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1263326] Re: #VALUE doesn't propagate correctly subtracting text from numbers
Christopher, the calculation in H6 of H5-D6 is protected by the IF() function, ensuring that we do not use H5-D6 when D6 is "". In fact, the cell has the proper value when other things are changed that should not affect this bug. As I stated in my original description, this includes ordering the rows by date or re-copying the formulas in D6 and E6 to themselves. This proves that the formula in H6 is fine. Furthermore the formula for H4 and H5 are the same as H6 except for the row numbers and as you can see there is no #VALUE issue with those cells. This behavior is new, I have been using this spreadsheet since 2001 in OpenOffice/LibreOffice and never had this issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263326 Title: #VALUE doesn't propagate correctly subtracting text from numbers Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) Release: 14.04 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc libreoffice-calc: Installed: 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What is expected to happen via a terminal: cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1263326/+attachment/3933694/+files/bug.ods && localc --nologo bug.ods is that cell H6 shows #VALUE no matter what, given it is a result of subtracting text from a number. 4) What happens instead is if one inserts a row, and then removes the row, it resolves to a number value. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1263326] Re: #VALUE doesn't propagate correctly subtracting text from numbers
Further investigation reveals that the issue is that the cell D6 is incorrectly evaluated to the value " " instead of the value "". This can be verified by copying the cell D6 and pasting just the text into another cell. So perhaps it is related to the same issue that is causing the cells in the F column to change from "x" to "x " and then "x ".
Further research reveals the issue is with formatting, in particular borders, affecting the value of cells. I will attach a new spreadsheet demonstrating the issue. I have also filed a bug at LibreOffice: https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=72969 Steps to reproduce: See attached spreadsheet (bug-format-affects-value.ods). The first line has no formatting and behaves as expected. The second line has a border on cell B2 and the value of that cell is affected. Current behavior: Cell C2 displays the value "Failed". If the value of cell B2 is copied and pasted as text the value pasted is "foobar ". Expected behavior: Cell C2 displays the value "Passed" like the cell C1. If the value of cell B2 is copied and pasted as text the value pasted is "foobar". ** Bug watch added: LibreOffice Bugzilla #72969 https://www.libreoffice.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=72969 ** Attachment added: "Simplified example spreadsheet demonstrating the issue" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1263326/+attachment/3934242/+files/bug-format-affects-value.ods -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to libreoffice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1263326 Title: #VALUE doesn't propagate correctly subtracting text from numbers Status in “libreoffice” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: 1) lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) Release: 14.04 2) apt-cache policy libreoffice-calc libreoffice-calc: Installed: 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 1:4.1.3-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) What is expected to happen via a terminal: cd ~/Desktop && wget https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1263326/+attachment/3933694/+files/bug.ods && localc --nologo bug.ods is that cell H6 shows the expected value of $4081.03. 4) What happens instead is it shows #VALUE. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1363557] [NEW] Password textfield missing when unlocking
Public bug reported: Intermittently the password textfield will be completely missing from the unlock screen. The user's name appears and the background graphic which usually surrounds the textfield is present, but the textfield itself is missing. This typically happens when multiple users are logged into the computer. Unfortunately I do not have reliable steps to repeat the problem. There are a number of workarounds. Sometimes I can use ctrl-alt-f7 or -f8 to switch to another user, log that user out and get to the log in screen with all the users listed. Then the original user can log in. Sometimes it is necessary to switch to ctrl-alt-f1 and restart lightdm. Sometimes I need to log into the machine remotely and restart lightdm. Sometimes all of these fail and it is necessary to restart the computer. If there is something I could do to gather more information the next the computer is in this state, I would be happy to do so. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 890705] Re: temp file links left in /tmp to ppd file in /etc/cups after printing
I had the same thing as Marcel noted in comment #8. My /tmp directory was filled with links to a ppd file under /etc/cups. I had to reboot in recovery mode to remove them. There were more a million, there were at least one link for every 13-digit hexademical number starting with the same 6 digits so at least 2^28, or approximately a quarter of a billion.
