[Desktop-packages] [Bug 933103] Re: evince crashed with signal 5 in g_settings_schema_get_value()

2012-03-09 Thread Marcel Stimberg
It does not seem to be document-specific, I'm getting it for many documents
now, with a complaint about another key, though:
GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.Evince.Default' does not contain
a key named 'dual-page-odd-left'

The last document where I experienced the problem was the one linked here:
http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/fetchObjectAttachment.action?uri=info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pcbi.1001026&representation=PDF

Bug description:
Evince crashes on start for some but not all documents, I do not see any

When it crashes for one document, it crashes consistently for that document. On
the terminal, I get
  GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.Evince.Default' does not
contain a key named 'zoom'

  Which is consistent with
  $ gsettings list-keys org.gnome.Evince.Default

2012-03-10 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 585910] Re: [Upstream] Impress Font fuzzy in presentation mode when Use hardware acceleration enabled

2012-01-28 Thread Marcel Stimberg
@Michael: The important part of Chistopher's comment was not so much
that it is not reproducible on Vista but that it appeared to be not
reproducible using the development version of LibreOffice 3.5. However,
I reopened the report as it is indeed still reproducible with 3.5 on
Ubuntu.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923038] Re: no audio/video info in Properties for mov files

2012-01-28 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Quicktime should be supported by a plugin in the gstreamer0.10-plugins-
good package -- do you have this installed? If not, could you check
whether installing it makes a difference? I can play quicktime videos
with totem on my machine, but presumably different versions of the
quicktime codec exist that are maybe not all supported by gstreamer.

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Ok. I guess you can also see the test movie that is installed by
checkbox: /usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov ?

I saw your movie uses ffmjpeg as a codec, thats different from the one in the
movies I tried. Could you try installing all the other gstreamer plugin
modules, i.e. do somthing like
sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly

Maybe the support is in one of those packages.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923038] Re: no audio/video info in Properties for mov files

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Could you point to any specific files that are maybe available online
(legally available would be best ;) ) -- it is difficult to triage this
otherwise. Or if it applies to movies you take with a camera, could you
attach a short example to this bug? Thanks in advance!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923038] Re: no audio/video info in Properties for mov files

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 922069 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/922069

I see. I can play quicktime videos on Ubuntu 11.10 just fine with totem, so it
seems not to be a general issue.
I saw that you already reported a bug against totem, I'm therefore marking this
bug here as a duplicate (if totem can play it, nautilus will also display the
properties info). Let's continue in bug #922069

attach the correct debug info to this report (as your original bug was

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Oh, actually it does not seem to be necessary... I just found the bug that
seems to apply to your situation (bug #856988) -- it seems to be a problem that
only occurs after upgrades from natty to oneiric. Could you try whether running
rm -r ~/.gstreamer-0.10
fixes the issue for you?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 922069] Re: REGRESSION: can't play mov files

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the info (although it unfortunately did not include infos
about plugins etc...). To sort out whether it is anything totem-specific
or (as I expect) a problem in the gstreamer backend, could you please
install the "gstreamer-tools" package and run:

gst-launch playbin
uri=file:///usr/share/checkbox/data/video/Quicktime_Video.mov

Does this work or not? If it doesn't, what error message does it give?
Thanks again.

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Can you reproduce this crash? If yes, please first run:
sudo service apport start force_start=1
(will prompt for your password) in a terminal. Now try to reproduce the crash:
A dialog box will appear asking you to send a bug report. This will
automatically create a new bug report. After this is done, please review
whether you find anything confidential in the attached files and if not, set
the visibility to public (if you are not sure, you can of course leave it as
private as well).
I'm marking this bug here as invalid, but please post the number of the newly
reported bug here as a comment. If for some reason you can reproduce the crash
but sending the bug report fails, feel free to reopen this bug by setting the
status back to new and we'll sort it out. Thanks in advance!

folder in a new tab. Doing this on the desktop, crashes nautilus, and
the desktop icons does not appear until you open a nautilus window.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 922807] Re: Nautilus crash when middle-clicking a folder on the desktop

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 923432 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/923432

Many thanks for your bug report -- I'm somewhat surprised that you are
apparently the first one reporting it as it is easily reproducible for
me (both on 11.10 and on the current development version 12.04). I
created a new bug report with additional debug information (bug
#923432). For the sake of simplicity I'm marking this bug as a duplicate
even though you certainly reported it first.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 856988] Re: totem cannot play quicktime file after upgrade to oneiric

Title:
totem cannot play quicktime file after upgrade to oneiric

Status in “gstreamer0.10” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Totem can't play quicktime files on a PC upgraded from natty to
oneiric. On a VM with oneiric installed from scratch, however, totem
can play the same files, so it seems to be a configuration error. Both
the PC and VM run 64 bit oneiric, have the same kernel version, and
  both have ia32 libs installed

A sample file that fails to play can be found in comment 5 of bug
  #851481.

On the PC that fails to play the files, totem prompts to install the
plugin for 'Quicktime demuxer' but then gnome-codec-install can't find
  a suitable plugin.

On the VM that *can* play the files, totem prompted to install the
same plugin and gnome-codec-install found and installed
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad. (These are both
already installed on the PC that cannot play the files.)

The output from gst-launch-0.10 uridecodebin=file:/// is:

  Setting pipeline to PAUSED ...
  Pipeline is PREROLLING ...
  WARNING: from element /GstPipeline:pipeline0/GstURIDecodeBin:uridecodebin0:

I have tried reinstalling all the installed gstreamer packages as well
  totem, but to no avail.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923428] Re: can´t launch deja-dup

2012-01-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for your bug report. You do not have the standard version of
libunity6 installed for Ubuntu 11.10 -- the version should be
4.0.6-0ubuntu3 but is 4.0.6+bzr105ubuntu0+84. Did you maybe enable a PPA
containing unity? Could you upgrade libunity6 to the official version
and see whether the error goes away?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923428] Re: can´t launch deja-dup

2012-01-30 Thread Marcel Stimberg
The unity PPA is only for the current development version of Ubuntu,
i.e. Ubuntu 12.04. As you are running 11.10, I'd suggest to remove the
PPA and downgrade to the libunity6 version in the repositories. Or, if
you want to contribute to testing the latest-and-greatest (but
occasionally breaking) you can of course also upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04.

Indeed it seems to be the same issue -- probably not seen as a duplicate
by apport because this bug is reported for precise and the other for
oneiric? I'm marking this bug as a duplicate and make a comment at bug
#817861 mentioning the newer apport info here.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 923943] Re: I can't hide menu, even creating a new config file or change values via gconf-editor

2012-01-30 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Many thanks for the bug report and the detailed instructions how to reproduce
it -- the issue still persists on Ubuntu Precise. The crash has already been

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 809609] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()

2012-02-05 Thread Marcel Stimberg
The crash is reproducible on Precise (see my duplicate bug report #927150) -- I
followed the instructions provided by fabrg in bug #926858:
Steps to reproduce:

1. Open gedit and display File Browser (side panel)
2. Open a structure folder with some folders and files (i suggest you /home/),
and expand some folder till you see some files, like
-- /afolder/
afile
afile
-- /afolder/
afile
afile
afile
3. click "refresh view" button
4. the structure should collapse automaticaly. if not, try to refresh again
untill it does. (probally gedit will crash)
5. when the folder collapse, expand it again.
6. repeat steps 3 to 5 till gedit crashes.

I had to repeat steps 3-5 quite a few times but in the end gedit crashed
when I clicked on the expand arrow for a directory.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 809609] Re: gedit crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_is_a()

2012-02-06 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Hi Sebastien, the issue seems to be the same, a crash at
g_type_check_instance_is_a, called by g_file_equal, the segvanalysis is
bascially identical (see my bug #927150). But you are right, the
stacktrace is not exactly identical (g_type_check_instance_is_a <-
g_file_equal <- gtk_path_bar_finalize in this bug,
g_type_check_instance_is_a <- g_file_equal <- g_hash_table_lookup_node
in my case) -- so you think it is worth keeping the two bug reports
separate? I'll unmark bug #927150 as a duplicate, then.

Title:
  gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in
  gtk_tree_model_get_valist()

Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The sound-properties dialog (started via the sound menu or directly from
gnome-control-center) crashes reproducibly when changing the "Play sound
through" setting in the Output tab. After it crashed once, all subsequent
attempts to start it fail, i.e. it crashes immediately on start.
A workaround is using pavucontrol to change the sound source, after this is
done, gnome-control-center can also be started again.

When gnome-control-center crashes, it prints the following to the terminal:

2012-02-18 Thread Marcel Stimberg
A possibly easier workaround (from my duplicate bug #932079): Use pavucontrol
for switching between outputs.
Oh and @JrZabott: I removed the verification-needed tag, that tag has a very
specific meaning for stable release updates, see

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 911358] Re: clicking on a .PDF file says: Could not load image ...

2012-01-22 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. If I understand your last change
to the summary correctly, it is working now again, right? In this case, i.e. if
the problem is no longer reproducible, we have to close the bug as "invalid" as
there is nothing we can do about it...
For future reference you can manage the status of your own bugs by clicking on
the current status in the yellow line and then choosing a new status in the
revealed drop down box. You can learn more about bug statuses at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status. Thank you again for taking the time to
report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please submit any future
bugs you may find.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 606272] Re: scrolling with pagedown gets stuck

Hi Thorsten,

I do not seem to be able to download the file using the link provided
(maye a session-specific as a result of a search?) Can you also
reproduce the issue with the document provided by the OP? Either way,
could you answer the questions I asked in my comment before (really
stuck or just slow, etc.)?

Thanks in advance.

When scrolling down the document from

does not jump to the next page. I can scroll it over that page with
the scrollbar or the mouse, and after that, pagedown is working again,
but there is a section it can't get past.

  Steps to repro:

  1. Open the file from
http://www.cs.wustl.edu/~schmidt/PDF/design-principles4.pdf
  2. Press Scrolldown and see the pages scrolling

expected: the document should scroll until the end of the page

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 901822] Re: gadu gadu

2011-12-09 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

see any nautilus error messages?

Either way, jdownloader is not an official Ubuntu package and because of this
the Ubuntu project can not fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to

I just tried the upstream LO version (i.e. installing all the .deb's in
LibO_3.5.2rc2_Linux_x86-64_install-deb_en-US provided by
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/) and cannot reproduce the issue -- seems
to be a Debian and/or Ubuntu problem.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 986205] Re: [Upstream] Libreoffice fails to open odt document with a checkbox in it

2012-04-22 Thread Marcel Stimberg
This is odd... I just reproduced the issue again with a vanilla Ubuntu
12.04 beta image from ubuntu.com (ubuntu-12.04-beta2-desktop-amd64.iso):
I started the ISO in a virtual machine, used "Try Ubuntu" mode and
navigated to this bug report. On opening the attachment I got the "Read-
Error". The beta still has 3.5.1-1ubuntu1, therefore I re-ran the ISO,
this time doing a proper installation (English language, nothing fancy).
The libreoffice packages have been automatically updated during the
installation (i.e. they are now 3.5.2-2ubuntu1), but again -- "Read-
Error" on the above file.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 986205] Re: [Upstream] Libreoffice fails to open odt document with a checkbox in it

2012-04-22 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Alright, I did some more testing: The problem is reproducible if the
libreoffice-base package is *not* installed. With libreoffice-base
installed, the file opens and displays, without the package it shows the
"Read-Error". This is only true for the Ubuntu Precise version, both the
TDF as well as the Oneiric version can open the file without
libreoffice-base.

Bug description:
LO in Ubuntu 12.04 fails to open an odt document that contains a checkbox.

The problem occurs only when the package libreoffice-base is *not*
installed and only for the Ubuntu package, i.e. either installing
libreoffice-base or using libreoffice 3.5 from
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/ allows to open the file.

  [Test Case]
  * Make sure libreoffice-base is not installed.
  * Try to open
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/986205/+attachment/3095819/+files/test_lo_checkbox.odt
  --> You receive a "Read-Error."

  [Workaround]
  Install the libreoffice-base package.

I had the same issue (Oneiric), it disappeared as soon as I removed the
['all'] entry from the systray-whitelist that I had previously added for
some non-standard systray indicators to appear. Do you also have made
such a change?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 207583] Re: [hardy, oneiric] Two instances of applet icon are displayed in notification area

2011-10-02 Thread Marcel Stimberg
You can check your setting with:
  $ gsettings get com.canonical.Unity.Panel systray-whitelist
The default values are:
  ['JavaEmbeddedFrame', 'Wine', 'scp-dbus-service', 'Update-notifier']
In my case this had been changed to "['all']"
If you have it installed, you can also use dconf-editor to check/set the value.

I followed a blog post like this back then:
http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/how-to-re-enable-notification-area.html

Sorry, had the tab with this report still open and did not notice
Christopher's changes before submitting mine. This should be handled in
bug #792942 -- resetting to "invalid".

@Christopher: The advice to "Use Nominate for series" is given quite
regularly -- unfortunately "normal" users have no right to do this, only
bug-control is allowed to do it.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792942] Re: [Upstream] Writer saving .odt to .rtf duplicates hyperlink

2011-08-30 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Bryce, according to this report, you are not using the most recent
version of libreoffice-writer for your Ubuntu release. Please upgrade to
the most recent version and let us know if you are still having this
issue. Thanks in advance.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792942] Re: [Upstream] Writer saving .odt to .rtf duplicates hyperlink

2011-08-31 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Bryce, I was asking because your initial report was still for 3.3.2 and
it might have been that you did not have the update repository enabled.
But your version is up-to-date. However, I can't reproduce the issue
here (note that upstream confirms it for 3.3.1, not for 3.3.3). I open a
document, chose "Insert -> Hyperlink" from the menu, enter
"www.example.com" as a target and "hyperlink" as text, then "apply" and
"close". Then I save as RTF (confirming that I really want to save as
RTF) and get a file with just a single hyperlink… My result is attached.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792942] Re: [Upstream] Writer saving .odt to .rtf duplicates hyperlink

2011-08-31 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Ok, I investigated a bit further. I can now reproduce the bug: It is
necessary to have some text *after* the link, i.e. a document with
"Link" works fine, a document with "This is a link" also works, but
"This is a link with some text" shows the "doubling". Could you update
the description so it fits the SRU guidelines (use "TEST CASE")? Do you
happen to know whether it works in Ubuntu 10.10, i.e. wether it is a
regression? For a SRU we'd also have to identify the upstream patch
fixing this issue.

2011-08-31 Thread Marcel Stimberg
I still cannot reproduce the problem, drag&drop on a SMB share and from
a SMB share to a local zip works fine. I had to install the p7zip-full
package to be able to get zip files working correctly, but this seems to
be unrelated to your problem. Do your filenames are somehow "special"?
E.g. do they contain special characters, spaces or similar? Could you
provide some minimal steps to trigger the issue? Thanks in advance!

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 792942] Re: [Upstream] Writer saving .odt to .rtf duplicates hyperlink

2011-09-06 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Bryce, these Launchpad bug messages are a bit misleading at times. The upstream
bug in the freedesktop bugtracker has been marked as "invalid" because in
launchpad no better translation of the status "WORKSFORME" exists (please don't
change the upstream status, it will be reset automatically after a while). The
Ubuntu bug status is still unchanged. What is missing in this bug report is:
1. A change in the bug description so it matches the SRU guidelines (you can
change the bug description by clicking the yellow icon at the top right of the
description) -- in particular, state that it affects the newest version (that
was misleading for me, before) and use the "TEST CASE: " format
2. (very important) the bug needs a "nominate for series" for Natty, i.e. a
specific bug status only for Natty. Unfortunately, neither you or I have the
rights to do that (you have to be member of bug control). Perhaps you could
ping someone at the #ubuntu-bugs IRC channel on irc.freenode.net to do it for
you?
3. Someone has to identify a patch fixing the issue. I had a quick look
upstream and it seems the RTF export has been basically rewritten for 3.4 --
maybe it is not possible to identify a single patch and a backport instead of
an SRU would be more appropriate.

Unfortunately I do not have the time to delve into this problem much
deeper -- I can imagine that the way this bug is handled is frustrating,
fixing bugs in stable releases is always a somewhat tedious process, in
particular for huge packages like libreoffice...

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 794512] Re: evince prints garbage with PDF files

2011-08-18 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the information (yes, liboppler was a typo). So the
"permission denied" problem seems indeed occur because of apparmor. You
could try to temporarily disable the apparmor profile as described here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingApparmor#Debugging_procedure

For both of your problems, I still think they are possibly already fixed
and do occur in your installation because of outdated packages. Try to
make sure (e.g. by "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade") that
you really have the most recent packages installed. For example, your
libpoppler-glib5 package is still 0.14.3-0ubuntu1 instead of
0.14.3-0ubuntu1.2 and evince-common (this contains the apparmor profile)
was -- at the time when you reported the bug -- at 2.32.0-0ubuntu1
instead of 2.32.0-0ubuntu1.1

I assume that the name of the poster will be printed after this
string. In some languages however (including Dutch(nl)), the subject
cannot be the last word of a sentence. This means that the above
string cannot correctly be translated to all languages.

It would be great if the English string could be changed to:
"Liked post form %s", where %s would print the name of the poster.

  Thankst
