Bug description:
I have extensive experience with systems multiseats. We use XDMCP at
the Federal University of Parana with single and multiple terminals.
We want to remove gdm altogether due to their problems. It is
envisaged something like the gdmchooser or a way to implement a custom
  menu in lightdm?

In GDM we use X -indirect to provide a menu by gdmchoose with xdmcp
servers and after choice selected, client try X -query
  with_selected_server

the update manager says:

If I use a fairly minimal config, I get:
When lightdm starts, Seat 0 is activated

2013-07-05 Thread Alexandre Magno
Hello!

Someone on IRC reported me the bellow:

The RAM fails when the machine comes back from suspend mode. The problem
is that the user don't command the suspend; the computer goes to sleep
alone after a few minutes without user action.

The user is using Ubuntu 13.4 (installed yesterday).

His VGA adapter: Intel Corporation C51 [GeForce Go 6150] (rev a2), in a
notebook HP pavilion DV9000.

I know that this bug report refers at GeForce 8600M GT, but the dmesg
output is very similar. Certainly that user is dealing with a «crash
with nouveau kernel error messages "fail ttm_validate", "validate
vram_list" and "validate: -12" Edit». See
http://paste.ubuntu.com/5848672/ for dmesg and lspci output please.

I don't know if I would must to create a new bug report...

Thank you for your attention.

Alexandre Magno

Title:
[GeForce 8600M GT] Unity and GnomeShell hang or crash with nouveau
kernel error messages "fail ttm_validate", "validate vram_list" and
  "validate: -12"

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

since I reinstalled my Ubuntu (previous version was 11.04) my window managers
have become very unstable. I believe it is nouveau's fault as I found these
lines in /var/log/kern.log:
  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599145] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: fail ttm_validate
  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599150] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: validate vram_list
  Oct 28 18:00:50 jakob-Vostro-1500 kernel: [ 1454.599204] [drm] nouveau
:01:00.0: validate: -12
The crashes appear to be nondeterministic:
Most of the time, when I boot the system with external displays plugged into
the VGA port, something crashes. In the worst cases the whole system crashes
and only SysRq keys are working. At other times I'm still able to reach the
terminal via ctrl-alt-f1. Even if the system survived, the window manager often
later on hangs and displays false colors and sometimes recovers. The log files
automatically attached by apport should document the latter error symptom.

I'd be happy to supply more information if you can give me hints how
  to gather them.

@a7x, I use Ubuntu 12.04.2. This PPA focuses only on support multiseat?
Do it keeps sync with the mainstream in other issues? With it I face
much risk of having serious bugs in the system?

Bug description:
I have a multiseat xorg.conf setup on Arch Linux (with ServerLayouts
  called seat-chris and seat-brynn)

Based on the below details, it seems that -sharevts is needed, but not
  handled correctly by lightdm

If I use a fairly minimal config, I get:
When lightdm starts, Seat 0 is activated
Ctrl-Alt-F8 on Seat 0 kbd activates Seat 1 (deactivates Seat 0)
Ctrl-Alt-F7 on Seat 1 kbd activates Seat 0 (deactivates Seat 1)

When I use the sharevts flag on Seat 1, I see the following:
On lightdm start, Seat 0 is activated
After a second or so, Seat 0 goes blank, and Seat 1 is activated

If I try sharevts on both sessions, I see the following:

On lightdm start, Seat 1 starts up
Seat 0 shows a mouse pointer on a text mode console printing the kernel
message 'Invalid Framebuffer ID'
If I force kill lightdm and restart it using the init.d service, then it
starts correctly

I don't know to interpret C++ code but seems that the actions are in:

Considering this, it is especially important the following lines in

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1350973] Re: More compatibility with the UltraVNC function "Toggle Remote Input and Remote Blank Monitor (On/Off)"

2014-07-31 Thread Alexandre Magno
I don't know to interpret C++ code but seems that the actions are in:

Line 6741:
  case ID_DINPUT:

Or line 6876:
  case ID_VIEWONLYTOGGLE:

I am assuming it is in (from) this first block refered above. Beacuse the line
854:
  buttonmap=IDB_BITMAPlx;

Considering this, it is especially important the line 5412:
  m_remote_mouse_disable = (value == rfbServerState_Disabled) ? true : false;

An other client don't resolves my problem because the UltraVNC's code
manages the requests per client, then only remains for me to add the

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 556442] Re: Nautilus doesn't automatically remount a network share when a clicking a symlink pointing to the share via .gvfs

Nautilus should automatically mount if it is a partition?

--

Title:
Nautilus doesn't automatically remount a network share when a clicking
a symlink pointing to the share via .gvfs

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  Karmic on x86_64.

  Steps to reproduce:
   1) Mount a samba share using Connect to Server... in the Places menu.
   2) Tell the system to remember the credentials for the share.
   3) Make a symlink from the home directory to a directory on the samba share
so that the symlink points to ~/.gvfs/sharename on host/directory
   4) Shut down the computer but not the samba server.
   5) Reboot.
   6) Double-click the symlink in Nautilus.

  Expected results:
Expected Nautilus to use the share name and host baked into the ~/.gvfs path
and the credentials saved to the keyring to remount the share and then open the
directory pointed to by the symlink.

  Actual results:
The symlink is treated as broken.

  Additional information:
This is a feature parity bug compared to Mac OS X. Finder on Mac OS X
remounts an AFP share automatically when the user tries to open an alias that
points to a folder on an AFP share that isn't mounted currently.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 877701] Re: No way to return to the contact list

You can try to run the application. I think that it will not disconnect
and it will open the contact list.

Bug description:
After updating to Ubuntu 11.10 and starting to use Gnome Shell it is
not possible any more to switch back to the contact list when you have
a conversation window open (IRC) and closed the contact list.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - Open the contact list
  - Start a new (IRC) conversation
  - Close the contact list, leaving the conversation open

If you view the activities, no contact list window is displayed. If
you click the Empathy icon in the vertical list, only the conversation
window gets focus. No contact list is displayed and there is no way to
get it back unless you close the conversation window first.

/away is one of the common IRC client commands that Empathy does not
implement. It would be most useful if, in place of or in addition to
an /away for IRC Empathy would respect my general away/available
status in IRC. In other words, when I use the User Menu applet to set
an away status it should carry through to my IRC nick.

This is a wishlist feature, but I think it would improve the
consistency of the tool; it seemed like the kind of thing that would
"just work" and I was surprised to see that it didn't.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045870] Re: I cannot use more than one IRC online account at a time

2014-07-18 Thread Alexandre Magno
You can join channels with /join command from the net of active channel.
You can enter into channels with /join command. The net will be the same
from active channel.

You can open the Empathy's contact list and then Control+J for choose
net and channel to enter.

But really the Empathy is not supporting two accounts with same nick.
For now you can configure distinct nicks for distinct accounts and after
of connected then use the commands /nick and /msg Nickserv IDENTIFY
.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1045870] Re: I cannot use more than one IRC online account at a time

2014-07-18 Thread Alexandre Magno
Work around: with IRC accounts, you do not must "grant access" for the
Ubuntu. So you can use a same nick in distinct accounts. What matters
for the remote connection is the nick configured in the options "Empathy
Messenger" of each account config.

If you right click on a Firefox text area, you can select which
language to use for spell checking. In this list I see:

+ en_us
+ English / Verenigde Staten
+ en_uk
+ English / Verenigd Koninkrijk

As you can see they both us-en and uk-en show up translated to my
language (Dutch) and as an acronym. They seem to behave the same
  though.

Perhaps this is an issue with translated dictionary names, perhaps
this is just an issue of having differently named packages installed
containing the same dictionaries. I'm not really sure where they get
  their dictionaries from.

I had to install a dutch dictionary using an add-on: it was not
installed by default, even though the rest of my desktop was
translated to Dutch. But I'll post that as a seperate bug.
