Edit: writing tags on large mp3 (I use DJ sets ~110 MB) is a fairly long process. [Bug 532633] Re: [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment
Comment #390> I think that if this was a configurable change it would be far less of a problem. I wonder if there is a point, knowing most users will probably use the option to move them on the right. Obviously mostly nobody (Canonical & Mark aside) likes the layout (and the "Mac" design) of these buttons. These buttons suffer a plain rejection from start. No matter the type of users, they all agree about the fact: "the button look like Mac buttons and that's bad. The buttons on the left--again a lot like on a Mac--is wrong". We already had a similar situation in 9.10: System>Appearance Preferences>Menus and Toolbars: "Show the icon menus" as they were in 9.04. The only noticeable feedback I could read on the net about this change was: Ubuntu 9.10 is getting neater. I have never used the option --and probably nobody has--because removing these icons made sense. Good change are always welcome from the majority. If these buttons create such a polemic and provoke a global rejection, the common sense would be to review the design and location before the official release. A "configurable change" in this case would be only the tacit reconnaissance of a misjudgement. -- [Master] Window Control buttons: position/order/alignment https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I guess we can all do that, if there is someone to record the data: =Q1. Where does the average mouse rest: On the right, near the scrolling bar (I scroll; when I am done I close using the upper left X button on 9.10) =Q2. Do you use the notebook trackpad: I never will (imprecise, slow). I use a small USB mouse and keyboard to navigate =Q3. Are there accidental clicks on the close button No =Q4. Does it take longer to click it in the new location Yes, see *A* below ==Added A. The mouse pointer on 10.04 is now either resting on the scrolling bar (extreme right) either on the buttons area (extreme left): It takes me longer to go interact with the windows buttons from the scrolling bar. B. the title windows on the left is distracting. I have to focus on the left. A title on the middle is recorded photographically without visual effort. winning, winning, and praising... for details... I am extrapolating. but whatever, when people open a bug/comment, asking "can you fix the problem" while there is no problem, but these people themselves, they should be turned down. I welcome usability to some extend, eg. automount a USB drive, vs. opening the prompt to mount the volume, but this thread is not about usability, is about stupidity (and winning). Today there is a request for this, and tomorrow for that. ++ code, ++ bloat, ++ actions/settings and -- usability. The imbeciles should voice up their stupidity on commercial software boards. Windows or Mac are especially designed for them, welcome them and listen to them. Here is a perfect cretins tool http://www.symantec.com/norton/ghost (~200 MB) on Windows. Since the change is going to happen anyway, I would rather now lean toward a *radical* change, as formally proposed by the UI team & Mark (the very same I did not like in the current 10.04 beta1) The way Mark is closing the bug is reasonable. he can make space on the right without too much offending people's habits. The downside is the loss of originality of the former (or current) theme. This message might sound contradictory, but I was ready to "bit the bullet" using the default theme for 6 months over. To see for myself if, at last, I would not finally come to like the unusual buttons position? In a way, Mark's final answer removes the emotional side I had for this bug. What are you talking about? Del means just MOVE your files to another directory called Trash. Trash is a directory in you /home along other directories. When you actually remove files from your system (i.e. you empty the trash) you will have a WARNING message (default). What else do you need?? All the people whining along this thread have the misconception of over-protective OS with redundant features. They just can't get it right. Now look at the bug status: WON'T FIX -- Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 95853] Re: Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus
On second though, what some of you ask in this thread is a confirmation to MOVE files and that's wrong. We can do without warning confirmation for moving or copying files can't we? You have one warning when you actually REMOVE files from you system and that's appropriate. And it goes without saying that one needs to manage its Trash directory's content as any other directory. Hope that ease the grief? -- Add an option to get a confirmation dialog before deleting files in Nautilus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/95853 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Oh, you want to humor me. Go head. Bugs don't close -- this is not a thread on the Ubuntu forum. See the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Status to have some insight about the bug status. As for for Silverlight it is indeed just another MS cretin stuff to, once again, attempt to impose a proprietary format no one--the normal people--will ever care about. Microsoft is the bug number 1 on Launchpad Ubuntu, see: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1. I don't really know why you bring this here? Go post about you skills on a MS board. Give a very bad impression of Linux users? No way. I am always glad to help other Linux users and to get help. What makes you think such thing? I have put in perspective the difference between "MOVE" and "DELETE from the system". Obviously some (insecure) ex-MS fan boys still do not catch the difference very well, hence the whining. But that's part of the learning curve. Linux needs commitment. PS: Tired? Nothing holds you to un-subscribe. [Bug 374101] Re: Brasero hangs at Normalizing tracks
Jaunty 9.04 2 computers, same Brasero settings (mainly default): burn audio tracks using the same external USB CD-DVD-RAM (Logitec) First notebook: Panasonic Let'note CF-W2 burn audio tracks without problem (normalization plug-in enabled) on the external drive Second notebook: Fujitsu FMV-Biblo NH28D does not burn and hangs in the process while displaying "normalization track" message on and on. Log: second notebook Fujitus FMV-Biblo NH28D - CD audio burning attempt (several tracks) the log is similar to the previous logs above on the thread.
