[Bug 667094] [NEW] Manual steps necessary to get calendar entry from browser
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When a Web site communicates a calendar object (meeting, etc.) it offers to download a .ics file. Currently, the only way to insert that object into Evolution is to (1) Save the .ics file to disk (2) In Evolution/Calendar, choose Import, select the just-saved .ics file, import, select a calendar. Most Browsers allow to associate a CLI line with a MIME type or file extension. Currently, associating a .ics file to Evolution gives no result (the file is downloaded, Evolution doesn't record anything.) To reproduce, craft a local Web page offering to download an ICS file, and try to import it into Evolution from the browser. This is unnecessarily complex. I would suggest additional parameters to the evolution command-line syntax, e.g., "evolution --cal-import $filename --into name>", with it defaulting to "local" calendar if --into is niot specified. This could be then encapsulated in a script to be used exactly as desired. This problem shows in Evolution 2.28.3 running on Ubuntu 10.04, and most probably all previous releases. the same behavior and request have already generated launchpad entries -- but apparently mistakenly assigned to Firefox and closed since. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Manual steps necessary to get calendar entry from browser https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/667094 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 415101] Re: Karmic: emacs22-gtk generated menus do not update (GTK only)
This bug still affects Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with emacs-25 package, when running the Unity desktop. In particular editing lisp files and using slime is next to impossible. I have found a fix: For emacs launched from a terminal window simply add export UBUNTU_MENU_PROXY=emacs to .bashrc For emacs launched from clicking on icons, i have modified the exec line of /usr/share/applications/emacs25.desktop to the following: Exec=/usr/bin/emacs %F instead of emacs25 because then the mechanism that puts the menu at the top of the screen is inhibited. Re: [Bug 1311912] Re: PDF Rendering problem with evince
Dear Christopher The bug had to do with an installation issue with texlive. I first tried an upgrade to see if it fixed the problem, and apt-get reported it was not installed (I am not sure how it was installed previously, but apparently I had an older version; but I did have the same problem on my laptop and my workstation). [Bug 138746] Re: CalDAV calenders do not work
Hello, I've upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 to see if the problem could have disappear. NO :(. I totally agree with the comment from Justin about the simple calendar server setup. Personally I've set up a very simple solution with apache, mod_dav_fs and ssl. It works very well with Korganizer and the Lightning extension to icedove / thunderbird. Furthermore, I tested the file (-i) command on the .ics file. It returns text/plain. So I suspected that evolution-data-server would have downloaded the file from https and ran the file command on it, having get that false result. I fixed my /etc/magic file like this: 0 string/cBEGIN:VCALENDAR vCalendar calendar file !:mime text/calendar And I re-tested file (-i) on the .ics file. No problem. It reports "text/calendar". But no change in Evolution. I took care of possible "cache" and removed the calendar from Evolution window, completely shutdown Evolution, and restarted it. So, to conclude : no way to make Evolution work with a simple CalDAV solution. [Bug 316667] [NEW] users-admin does not work with empty passwords
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: liboobs-1-4 1) Release: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 2) version of package: apt-cache policy liboobs-1-4 gnome-system-tools liboobs-1-4: Installed: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.22.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status gnome-system-tools: Installed: 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 Candidate: 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 Version table: *** 2.22.0-0ubuntu9 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) Expectations: users-admin should be able to add/delete/modify user account setting even if a user happen to have an empty password 4) What happens: a) add user, remove the password: you probably have to edit manually /etc/shadow for this b) at this point, managing groups with users-admin still work but anything related to user account management (adding a user, deleting a user changing properties for a user does not work any more c) what is very frustrating is that there is absolutely no visual feedback of this error condition. When adding a new user a new line shows up in the interface as in normal case. But /etc/passwd /etc/shadow ... are NOT modified d) the following shows up on stderr: -- (users-admin:11895): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: create_dbus_struct_from_user: assertion `(login && password && homedir && shell)' failed (users-admin:11895): Liboobs-CRITICAL **: Not committing due to inconsistencies in the configuration, this reflects a bug in the application -- 5) Proposed fix Quick fix is to relax the assert in oobs-usersconfig.c >> g_return_val_if_fail ((login && password && homedir && shell), FALSE); I guess. it would be much cleaner to intervene in the protocol used by the users-admin frontend to talk to back-ends. There should be a way to say that a data must exist but maybe be an empty string. Can't you differentiate between failures in network transport or server routines (aka backends) failures (for example perl installation corruption) and empty string put on purpose ? Sorry I know rpc, corba, network porgramming, asn1.. but I'm totally ignorant on how you describe data exchange for dbus, how you register handlers/services, how you "tcpdump" the dbus protocol exchange. 6) Rational of this request for a fix: a) I agree that users with empty passwords are a bad thing and should be avoided by default But I guess there are situations (standalone computers, with restricted access and no network connections) where it makes sense (after tweaking /etc/pam.d/common-auth a little of course. Even sshd allows this if you explicitly ask for it (option PermitEmptyPasswords) b) liboobs should provide "Mechanism, not Policy". Provision to ban empty passwords should lie in the frontend NOT in the protocol between frontend and backend c) by the way assuming that home and shell should also be .neq. [Bug 666241] [NEW] Problem while moving screens in the "monitor preferences"
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center I'm under Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop in 64 bits. I already had the same problem on the 10.04. To have the bug, you necessarily need at least two screens with different resolutions. I'll explain my case, with my laptop screen (resolution of 1280x800) and my TV which have a HD resolution : 1920x1080. Steps to reproduce the bug : - connect the TV with VGA cable on my laptop - launch "monitor preferences" application - activate the TV - switch from left to right (or inversed) the laptop screen and the TV screen with drag and drop in the "monitor preferences" window. (for exemple : monitor preferences put the TV on the left by default. But in the real world, my TV is on the right of my laptop). - then there is a "hole" in the workspace of the bigger screen (TV in my case) and that hole seems to correspond to the bigger resolution minus the smaller one. That hole is black (it hides the wallpaper) and can't be used as workspace (this is not only a problem of hiding the wallpaper but really a piece of the workspace which is missing). To "solve" the problem, I then need to decrease the resolution of the TV screen. And increase it again to its real resolution (1920x1080). At that point, I have my TV screen well configured!! [Bug 701816] [NEW] Need a VOIP group in the communication roaster of Ubuntu (letter icon)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy When wanted to make a SIP call phone with empathy, I actually need to clic on the letter roaster in the gnome status-bar, choose "chat" which opened empathy window. Then choose "chat" in the application menu and then choose "New call". This is really not intuitive nor optimized (4 clics to make a phone call - it should be 2 or 3) and "chat" on which I need to click is not really the action I want to since I want to make a voice call. So either the "chat" name of the category is not a wise choice, either you need to add a new category named VOIP. [Bug 334082] Re: Most mp3 files listed with "Unknown" length
Hi, I had the same problem on Ubuntu 10.04 64 bits desktop edition. Every audio files sits on a NTFS type of partition. Some files duration are tagged "unknown" and others are the correct length shown. I resolved the problem by deleting the media DB file : ~/.local/share/rhythmbox/rhythmdb.xml so the next time rhytmbox is started it have to rebuild the DB. That new import is showing lenght correctly, for all audio files without exception. So there was a problem during the initial and first build of the DB (maybe at that time my environment missed a codec or something needed by rhytmbox to do the job correctly??). You'll see above some dpkg -l to see installed version of softwares. You'll also find a copy of the corrupted rhythmdb.xml in attached file.
