[Bug 599773] Re: Remote desktop not refreshed when using desktop sharing

2011-03-20 Thread drevicko
There is a discussion of this problem here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1383356&page=2

It has been seen with a number of vnc viewers (not just vinagre) and
appears to be a problem with xdamage extensions. From post 15 by
v_2ryann :

Here is the answer guys, on how to do it without changing the
effects:

1) Open a terminal o press ALT+F2, then run/type: gconf-editor
2) Go to /desktop/gnome/remote_access and enable "disable_xdamage"

I found it found here:
http://swiss.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1496368

The gconf-editor says this about the XDamage extension of X.org: "This
extension does not work properly on some video drivers when using 3D
effects. Disabling it will make vino work on these environments with a
slower rendering as side effect. "

One post suggested a possible link with nvida drivers, but my machine
does has ati drivers and experiences the same problem. Many people on
the forum thread above (and others) have said turning off desktop visual
effects (which presumably use xdamage) solves the problem.

I am getting this problem reliably, though not always with the same
applets.

A sample xsession-errors:

That last warning takes a long time to appear - presumably the COMM_FAILURE is
a timeout.. The panel does not appear while waiting, and the offending applet/s
(in this case, the timer applet) is/are not present when it finally does.

Any suggestions on how to collect more useful information on this?

I deleted ~/.gconf and rebooted. So far no problems, will post again if
somethings up. If things seem ok for a few days, I'll post the old
(offending) .gconf folder. If anyone is interested in this, it might pay
to post a comment - that'd inspire me not to forget to post more info (:

The new ~/.gconf has not fixed the problem.

[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2011-01-21 Thread drevicko
Also on x86-64 with maverick.

Another post suggested looking at $SSH_AUTH_SOCK which is "/tmp/keyring-
bp0Sgd/ssh" so indeed it seems to be a keyring problem.

I have gnome-keyring package version 2.92.92.is.2.31.91-0ubuntu4.1

The problem occurred just after re-creating my dsa key pair (I had
inadvertently overwritten the old private key). After copying the
private key into the host machines 'authorized_keys" file, ssh failed
with:

Agent admitted failure to sign using the key.
  Permission denied (publickey).

no request for the key's password was made.

running "ssh-add" re-requested the password for the key and subsequently
ssh worked.
