[Bug 339828] Re: Alt+ shortcuts not working

2009-06-07 Thread Hal
Same situation here. I believe in my case, this is triggered by turning
effects On (System > Preferences > Visual Effects), and subsequently
turning Visual Effects back off. While 'On', ALT key combos work fine.
Then when turned off, ALT is ignored. Pressing ALT-TAB twice when focus
is on a terminal yields:

 h...@honey:~$
 Display all 294 possibilities? (y or n)

Restarting X is the only back to sanity I've found.

[Bug 339828] Re: Alt+ shortcuts not working

2009-06-07 Thread Hal
Correction: originally none of the my usual ALT key combos worked.
Turing Visual Effects On and back off, has restored some of the key
combinations. ATL-TAB is still borked though.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2009-04-16 Thread Hal
Suggested fix: konsole. More options, and as a bonus all the friggin
keys work (at least the ones I use anyway). I feel stupid using kde apps
on a gnome desktop but even stoopider not being able to use all the keys
on the keyboard.

Maybe not, but the keys work correctly, so it may not "seem right" but it
works right ;-) The lack of annoying bugs that don't get fixed, is much less
too.

[Bug 89660] Re: control-cursor-key regression in vim

2007-08-26 Thread Hal
Wow, as a brand new Ubuntu user coming over as a long time ~Red Hat
user, this is my first negative impression. I install 7.04 flawlessly in
less than hour. Very, very happy. I manually install very easily a bunch
of other packages I need for both work and play in maybe another hour. I
am really, really happy at this point. I then start the fine-tuning and
spend maybe *six hours* to find a steenkin terminal app that works
properly and that I like (has to have tabs)! ( I spend hours each day
having to work via terminals connecting remotely.) Then I find this is a
known issue for six months or so. Not very happy, to say the least.
While apparently this is 'low priority' to gnome, fedora or ubuntu
developers, it is hugely important to those who have to use terminal
applications and editors like vim. .02, and I wish I knew more about
apt so I get past this one. Having spent many years using multi-gnome-
terminal and its little brother gnome-terminal, I guess my only choice
is mrxvt. They seem like they might take this kind of thing seriously.
Peace.

[Bug 89660] Re: control-cursor-key regression in vim

2007-08-28 Thread Hal
I don't know. After trying both Sven's and the backports, I still am
chasing this. What I have now is:

ii libvte-common 0.16.8-0ubuntu1~7.04prevu1 Terminal emulator widget for
GTK+ 2.0 - comm
ii libvte-dev 0.16.8-0ubuntu1~7.04prevu1 Terminal emulator widget for
GTK+ 2.0 - deve
ii libvte-doc 0.16.8-0ubuntu1~7.04prevu1 Terminal emulator widget for
GTK+ 2.0 - deve
ii libvte9 0.16.8-0ubuntu1~7.04prevu1 Terminal emulator widget for
GTK+ 2.0 - runt

And for end key and ctrl-end I have (using Ctrl-V + end, etc):

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debs$ end key: ^[OF
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debs$ c-end comb: ^[OF

... gnome-terminal. Then in mrxvt (which works fine in this regard):

 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debs$ end key: ^[[8~
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/debs$ c-end combo: ^[[8;5~

which vim understands fine.

Just got the exact same behavior while trying to send a file to a Galaxy Nexus.
My laptop and the GNex paired successfully, but the first send attempt returned

I send files to my phone using bluetooth quite regularly, and I never had any

[Bug 540093] [NEW] Feature request: add a "search" box in the Keyboard Shortcuts dialog

2010-03-17 Thread Hal Eisen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

There are roughly 75 keyboard shortcut functions available to be
configured. Finding the right one can be time consuming and
frustrating. It would be nice if there was a SEARCH box where the user
could type a fragment of a function name, and the dialog would filter
just those functions which match. This is essentially the *exact* same
idea as is already present in "Add to panel" dialog.

[Bug 27086] Evolution cannot send email using encrypted SMTP server

2006-02-19 Thread Hal Eisen
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/27086

Comment:
I have solved this problem myself. The issue was that Evolution was not
sending an FQDN as the argument to the HELO directive during the SMTP
conversation. When I edited /etc/hostname and /etc/hosts then I was
able to send email just fine.

I'm getting the white border around all my custom icons on the desktop,
