[Bug 2013542] Re: [lunar] windows size/position is not saved for some apps

2023-06-06 Thread Francois Thirioux
Seems to be gone with GS 44.2 in Mantic (there are some related changes
so there's no real surprise here).

[Bug 2013542] Re: [lunar] windows size/position is not saved for some apps

2023-09-01 Thread Francois Thirioux
Clearly I do experience this bug only using X11 (at the moment I have to
use Nvidia + X11 since Intel hdmi seems to be broken in new 6.5 kernel
and Nvidia + Wayland leads to an unusable desktop because of erratic
keyboard entries, erratic menu item selection and so on, e.g. with
Firefox snap).

I still do not see any system-config-printer button in g-c-c printers tab.
Is that intended?
I can launch s-c-p from command line, though.

[Bug 2036957] [NEW] [mantic] Nvidia GPU not detected using on-demand

2023-09-21 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Laptop: Legion with Intel + Nvidia 3070 gpu

I reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2033735
but I realize this could be a GNOME (including gdm?) issue. That's not a
hardware failure as W11+hdmi is working with on-demand. That's not
Nvidia-535 related since I get the same bug using Nouveau.

- Using Nvidia dGPU: all is ok (well, in a X11 session!)

- Using dynamic graphics:
--- Nvidia gpu is not listed in g-c-c system details (only Intel gpu is listed)
--- App menu's option to launch with dGPU is missing
--- HDMI monitor is not detected

When I boot, I notice in gdm's screen that my monitor is not activated
(full black). It is when I use Nvidia dGPU-only mode. So that's not only
a GS stuff, as far as I can see.

I get this related to Nvidia in logs:

[Bug 2050862] [NEW] [noble] Adwaita dark theme is not applied for old apps

2024-01-22 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi all,
Hi Jeremy,

1) go for GNOME or Ubuntu session, with light theme
2) in Tweaks, select Adwaita for old apps in Appearance tab
3) in quick settings, select dark theme
4) check the theme used for old apps in Tweaks: still Adwaita, not Adwaita-dark

I saw this using Synaptic.
All is ok if Yaru is chosen for old apps theme, Yaru becomes Yaru-dark.

[Bug 1965507] [NEW] [jammy] New GS 42 colors management leaves GNOME session incomplete

2022-03-18 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Playing with new GS colors... Thanks for that moment.

Well, that new feature is cool in Ubuntu session.
But in GNOME session, you do not have any Appearance tab in g-c-c.

In a GNOME session, you can change colors back through Tweaks, anyway, after
have set them in an Ubuntu session.
But I did not find how to change the Shell light/dark variant (without dconf).
So I get "this wallpaper will only apply for the light style" under the
wallpaper's image in corresponding g-c-c, but I cannot change the Shell style.

Would it be possible to make the light/dark new shell style selection
available for GNOME session? Or having a light/dark shell style
selection in Tweaks?

[Bug 1843499] [NEW] [eoan] Wayland session misses non-GNOME apps theming

2019-09-10 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Running GS 3.34 from proposed (or 3.33.92 too), the GNOME or Ubuntu
sessions miss non-GNOME apps theming. I use Adwaita, it runs Yaru (if
installed...) and picks up wrong fonts. Examples of such apps :
wxMaxima, Thunderbird, Firefox.

Running X session, all is fine. But here too there's something fishy :
when I switch from a Wayland session to a X session, the first login
sees Synaptic tell me that I run a Wayland session and that I cannot
apply changes (etc.). The consecutively second login in a X session does
not experience this bug.

This behaviour began with 3.33.92 updates of gdm, gnome-session and
gnome-settings-daemon some days ago. Upstream GNOME bugs tells me to
report in Ubuntu bugs.

Ok I had time to do some bisects. The faulty upgrade is from this correct one :
gnome-settings-daemon
3.33.90-1ubuntu2

The versions >= 3.33.92 suffer this bug.

[Bug 1872796] Re: gnome-shell animations are noticeably stuttery when the Ubuntu extensions are enabled

2020-04-15 Thread Francois Thirioux
[ThinkPad T480s, iGPU 620 too]

>From my pov, Ubuntu extensions do impact the smoothness. Anyway, I do
use gnome-session since a long time (I used Ubuntu GNOME, some time ago)
and the animations have never been really smooth in gnome. It's
somewhat odd that an older Thinkpad (T440s) we own do better (Ubuntu
session 18.04).

I do see these (slightly) stuttery animations in overview, especially
showing the virtual workspaces dock. It does not (or much less) happen
if no window is open. Still here if no extension at all is active.

[Bug 2012034] [NEW] [lunar] Odd switches behavior in Ubuntu Desktop tab (g-c-c 44 rc)

2023-03-17 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

0) all 3 Ubuntu extensions disabled
1) open g-c-c (44rc)
2) go to Ubuntu Desktop tab
3) I see only a (new) switch (off) for "Tiling Assistant"
4) I do not see any other switch for Dock nor Icons
5) turn on the Tiling switch
6) 2 other switches appear for the Dock and Icons parts
7) odd! :-)

Should be great to always see these 3 very convenient switches.

[Bug 2012043] [NEW] [lunar] New g-c-c makes display config painful

2023-03-17 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Jammy : I can change some elements (frequency, positioning, etc.) THEN apply.
Lunar : I have to change displays config and positioning by applying on every
element change (1st display, 2nd display, positioning).

Not a big deal but imo it should be cool to allow users to globally
apply their changes in display config, as before.

I do not experience this issue anymore (GS 44rc, 6.2 kernel, 525 Ubuntu main

Using powertop does not seem to be reliable but looking at GNOME's energy

(without any visible reason).

[Bug 2012733] [NEW] [lunar] [X11] Adwaita instead of Yaru in non GNOME apps

2023-03-24 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Nvidia 530 (graphics ppa), dGPU mode, GS 44, Lunar

X1 session:
If I launch Synaptic or ChessX, eg., the title bar is Adwaita-styled (greyish +
icons).
No issue with GNOME apps (and some other like FF or TB snaps, etc.).

Wayland session:
all is ok (except many other bugs!)

[Bug 2012733] Re: [lunar] [X11] Adwaita instead of Yaru in non GNOME apps

2023-03-26 Thread Francois Thirioux
Using a 200 % scaled 4K display, I see that the header bars of these
buggy apps is small and not scaled (I mean fonts AND header bar itself).
GNOME apps are themed and scaled as intended.

[Bug 1812815] [NEW] User should scroll up on sound indicator to increase sound

2019-01-22 Thread Francois Thirioux
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Disco dev up to date, GS 3.30, GNOME session

I use natural scrolling (fingers up, page down).
When I scroll on the sound indicator, fingers down = sound increased, following
the natural scrolling.

I feel this behaviour is bad, it would seem to me more natural to have
fingers up = sound increased.

[Bug 1409032] Re: gvfsd-smb: very high CPU utilisation

2016-07-23 Thread Francois Thirioux
I use Ub. Gnome 16.04. If I use lightdm, the bug happens (one thread,
gvfs-smb-browse using 100 % of a virtual CPU) when I open Nautilus. I
switched back to gdm (NB : gdm is not working with Nvidia proprietary
drivers...) (!!!) and I do not see this high CPU usage.
