[Bug 34788] Confusing Hewlett Packard printer drivers categories

2006-03-15 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/34788

Affects: libgnomeprintui (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Using Ubuntu Dapper FL5, Gnome desktop

When adding or configuring printers information, there are two
categories covering Hewlett Packard printers: HP and HP (HPLIP). This is
confusing and counter-intuitive.

This is somewhat related to Bug #24999 , however this is about having
two entirely different *categories* of printer drivers, which is
confusing, not to mention having drivers present in one category but not
in the other as stated in Bug #24999.

A better aproach may be to combine both categories or else, although I
don't know the reasons for having a separate HPLIP category to begin
with.

[Bug 44436] Re: disks-manager wrongly reports DVD drive as CD-ROM

2006-07-20 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I am not sure why this has been categorize low priority. I added some
more information to the upstream bug. I really think this is an
important usability issue, as more people use DVD-R/W drives and this
seems to imply Ubuntu is incable of rightly identifying this "simple"
device. I deal with lots of new Ubuntu users and it's getting hard to
explain this, if it is only a label problem.

Tested again with Dapper Beta (post Flight 6), there's only one category now
(HP).

So, can someone please close this, tx.!

[Bug 44319] Missing help file for search & replkace dialog

2006-05-11 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: abiword-help

Using Dapper beta, latest updated as of today.

Invoking help using the Help button in the search & replace dialog bring up a

[Bug 332355] Re: Empathy doesn't alert to new email messages

2010-09-15 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
I am raising this to medium, as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance:
* A bug that has a moderate impact on a core application.

My rationale is that Empathy has replaced Pidgin as the core IM
application in Ubuntu, and as such there still is an expectation that it
should have the same or better/more features. In some cases like this
one it's not and it's important functionality present across several
services (I checked MSN, GTalk, Yahoo). It's also functionality present
in other IM clients in their respective OS, which maintains the
expectation even for new Ubuntu users.

I took a brief look to the upstream bug and it's blocked by two other
bugs, including another spec and undrafting the original spec. If you
look at the spec for this it's been worked on for quite some time now so
it's not something that has been ignored, or dismissed. I'll see if I
can get more information on how to best help upstream with this.

There is no mouseover in Maverick beta for this, however the "menu" item

battery icon, however, seems to be visually accurate, showing a battery
that empties overtime. This is on an updated 10.10 beta i386 install.

[Bug 654761] [NEW] Battery life estimation always show "estimating..." in battery (indicator applet)

2010-10-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On a Dell Mini 9 with latest Maverick (i386 RC with updates), the
battery indicator always shows "estimating" instead of remaining time.
When power is removed, an accurate percentage value is shown.

This seems to be hardware specific. There is a very similar bug about an
HP system, bug #629258, where other unaffected systems apport
information has been sent.

This seems to be hardware specific. There is a very similar bug about an
HP system, bug #629258, where other unaffected systems apport
  information has been sent.

please report the battery indicator always showing up in a separate bug

[Bug 613886] Re: No preview on file upload after installing Flash

2010-10-05 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
@Pedro, I am reopening this as a bug, something is wrong when having
Flash can intercepta standard OS file dialog.

I can confirm this same problem in Maverick using the latest Adobe Flash
for 64-bit.

This seems to be website-specific. Try to upload an image to Flickr with
Flash enabled - no preview. Try to upload an image to your Launchpad
profile with Flash enabled - preview is OK. It looks like websites can
override the OS upload dialog with their own or something along those
lines.

[Bug 540958] [NEW] Brightness set to lowest after coming back from suspend, can't adjust back to normal on Intel 945GME

2010-03-18 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

After coming back from suspend the brightness level is very low, adding
the applet control for brightness doesn't help as the brightness level
can't be changed (the applet has a red line across it).

This seems to be the same as Bug #290466, except a different Intel
chipset.

[Bug 546240] [NEW] New Lucid keyboard indicator doesn't show keyboard variants

2010-03-24 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-settings-daemon

In Karmic and previous Ubuntu versions the keyboard indicator applet
would show a subscript number for variants of same-language keyboards
when cycling through them.

For example having both USA and USA (Alternative International - former
us_intl) would show USA and USA(2).

Now it only shows USA no matter which one is active. Hovering over with
the mouse cursor shows the appropriate layout is active, but there is no
visual clue about it.

@Pedro I only see a patch upstrem, no one confirming this is fixed or works.
Can't find any references to it in this changelog either:
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gstreamer0.10/+bug/290527

This was marked fixed back in January, I don't see anything in karmic
nor -proposed either.

Can you clarify what nextsteps should have been ? If there's anything I
can do (testing) for upstream's benefit, I'd be glad to.

[Bug 321989] [NEW] "Create a new key" wrongly refers to PGP instead of OpenPGP

2009-01-27 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

The "Create new key" dialog wrongly lists "PGP key" among possible
choices.

This should be "OpenPGP key" as it refers to the type of key, not the
commercial application.

I understand the historic reason, however this needs to be updated.

[Bug 321997] [NEW] Can't import public SSH keys with Seahorse

2009-01-27 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Public SSH keys can't be imported into Seahorse, either copying or from
the File dialog.

When copying any public key from Launchpad directly in the "Trusted
keys" tab, the key is somehow changed or interpreted as an OpenPGP key.

When tyring to import it via the File > Import dialog in Hardy there is
an "Invalid file format" error. The file I try to import is named
"pubkey.asc", saved using the "Save this page" feature in Firefox when
displaying public keys in Launchpad.

When tyring to import it via the File > Import dialog in Intrepid it
silently fails.

This may be related to Bug #150654 , Bug #230537 or both.

I am filing a new bug as I am only interested in public keys importing,
as a part of setting up public key authentication for SSH
access/tunneling.

Can you execute Evolution with the debug option from command line and

Then attach the resulting files to this case file - of course replace
launchpadid in the filename with your own launchpad ID.

[Bug 305230] [NEW] SSL certificate for Ekiga.net is self signed, prevents registration

2008-12-04 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Using Intrepid 8.10.

When using Ekiga for the first time, if the configuration assistant is
used it proposes registering to Ekiga.net in the third step.

The "get an ekiga.net SIP account" opens Firefox which in turn reports
this error:

www.ekiga.net uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)

This doesn't trigger any mechanism to bypass the error, thus preventing
registration.

Yes I know how to add an exception for an invalid cert, but this really
should not be a site where self-signed certificates are used. the
required procedure to bypass the error is not trivial to new users, and
does not help trusting Ekiga as an application or as a service.

Please either remove this link and option from the assistant or buy a
valid SSL certificate.

I am not sure I understand your second comment, .c files do open with
gedit if no IDE is installed which is a sensible fallback. Opening a

That's what I am saying, it's the same except we don't have a good
fallback. Failing a good fallback, Ubuntu should propose
applications/packages known to handle that format, in this case,
scribus-ng.

[Bug 972475] Re: Scribus files open in Firefox if Scribus is not installed, should offer to install it

2012-04-03 Thread Fabián Rodríguez
Nautilus now says "Scribus Document (application/vnd.scribus)" - this is
after I assigned the file type to it permanently when I first tried to
open it unsuccesfully.

Since Scribus is often mentioned as one of the major desktop applications in
the Ubuntu official documentation, I was expecting a better user experience for
this, much like when I try to open media files in unexpected non-free formats.
See:
http://www.ubuntu.com/search/google-appliance/scribus

COuld we use the same mechanism to recognize Scribus files?
