[Bug 1824657] [NEW] GNOME shell crash
Public bug reported: I was watching a video on youtube with the Chromium snap browser, suddenly the GNOME shell crashed, no possibility to click for Chromium or other closure, but I managed to access a tty4 session, by pressing the keys: ctrl + alt + f4. Using Ubuntu 19.04 from the beginning of development, first with KDE, after I install GNOME with the metapackage: sudo apt install ubuntu-desktop, eliminating any KDE package, until now I have had no problem. full update, proposed repository disabled. I attach the logs from the time I had the problem, about 10:50 pm, I started with the logs at 10:40 pm with this command: journalctl --since "2019-04-13 22:40:00" ( if it is wrong, let him know) >From the logs I see many gnome-shell errors, but obviously I can't decipher them if it was the cause of the problem. [Bug 1841774] Re: gnome-shell freezes and continuously logs "JS ERROR: TypeError: null has no properties" in _addWindowEffect from vfunc_show (both in closeDialog.js)
Strange, these two extensions('sensory-percept...@harlemsquirrel.github.io', 'temperature@xtranophilist', 'gnom...@panacier.gmail.com' ) I've already uninstalled from gnome-tweaks, for a long time. If they are available and easy to install, I think there is some problem with gnome shell extensions, it happens to many users that they can't start the desktop with any extension that doesn't work well (I can fix it because I know how to fix it, but many users, no). Public bug reported: I have gnome-shell blocked, when I click on any part of the shell: dock, menu etc ... nothing happens. I can only switch between windows with alt + tab. [Bug 1820104] [NEW] Ask what to do when moving files/folders
Public bug reported: When I move a document to a folder on the same disk, by default I move the folder/file, what I expect is that it asks me if: copy, move or create a connection, as does the Dolphin file manager. [Bug 1820104] Re: Ask what to do when moving files/folders
Thank you for responding so quickly. The problem is that it has two different behaviors: 1) The use case that operates in the same partition, in this case copy; 2) The use case that operates on different partitions, in this case moves, I expect at least the same "copy" behavior, because I can move files or folders from backup, and I want the folder to remain on the backup. My concern is when I install Ubuntu to a few experienced people, in this case if they want to copy some documents to the USB stick, they could only find the copy on USB, since in this case nautilus moves the folders. I reported the BUG because I often have to restore the other copy to the original place. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1820104 Title: Ask what to do when moving files/folders To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1820104/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1820104] Re: Ask what to do when moving files/folders
Sorry, I'll correct myself: The different behavior is on the same partition: move. However the problem of usability remains, many inexperienced users accustomed to Windows, use the mouse to move, copy folders etc I must be able to decide at least whether to move or copy.
I recently installed the Chromium SNAP, so I wanted to copy the Chromium DEB configuration: I select the folder /home/user/.config/chromium and move it to /home/user/snap/Chromium/current/.config/chromium My intention is to copy, since I want to keep the ".deb" installation configuration, Nautilus has moved the folder, because it is in the same partition. Since on the chromium snap configuration there was already the configuration folder, I applied and overwritten the files/folders, in this case I lost the configurations, nothing serious, but it is annoying.
In fact, not even Windows shows a choice when moving a folder, even if it visually indicates that you are moving a folder. Unfortunately I don't use keyboard shortcuts very much, I use a lot of mouse. Same thing the users to whom I install an operating system, in 99% of the cases they are used to the click, and it is difficult to explain to them to memorize the keyboard shortcuts, they must already get used to the change of operating system between Windows 7/10 and Ubuntu / Kubuntu. Yesterday I installed Kubuntu (I removed Windows 7) to a user, so I made a temporary backup on a USB disk, at the end of the installation I made all the files move (not copy), with dolphin it was simple and intuitive because I was proposed a choice. ** Attachment added: "Cattura.PNG" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1820104/+attachment/5246261/+files/Cattura.PNG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1820104 Title: Ask what to do when moving files/folders To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1820104/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Being able to move Applications from the Menu to the desktop or move documents from the file manager to the desktop is a function that is required by many users, it is a feature that any OS and Linux Desktop has, for years that I use my PC for the first time. it's such a limit, and only GNOME-Shell has it. [Bug 411322] Re: desktop icon position of symbolic links are not restored
Hi lutterworth, for the time being, you could manage to install the patch by compiling yourself the package: just follow the Link Andreas Allacher posted on comment #23 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=593809). As far as I know, that's the way to go right now. On bugzilla.gnome.org, Takehiko Abe posted the instruction for his patch on comment #15. You can use them directly from your Ubuntu 9.10 amd64 (I slightly modified them here to adapt the commands): 1. sudo apt-get source libglib2.0-0 2. sudo apt-get build-dep libglib2.0-0 3. find the file in the directories you just created, precisely look for: gio/glocalfileinfo.c 4. modify the file following Takehiko's instructions on comment #6, removing the lines with a - and adding the lines fine a +. 5. sudo dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc 6. install all the .deb packages built (that's what I did, but I guess you could just install libglib2.0-0) Since you just overwrote the same packages that already are in your distribution repositories, two things will happen: when you restart, your symbolic links will be right were you put them; as soon as you update your package list, your system will want to reinstall the previous version of the packages. This can be avoided by putting on hold these packages so that they don't get updated: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AptGet/Howto This should cover it. I really hope so: there are certainly better ways to do this, but that's just all I got for now. -- desktop icon position of symbolic links are not restored https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Unfortunately I had to revert the machine to Dapper and I won't be able to run Edgy on it for a while. For your questions: - The desktop does work with the default (en) locale. - Nautilus works when this happens. It simply opens a window rather than displaying the desktop.
