[Bug 397309] [NEW] gdm crashes in libgtk2 with SIGSEGV at _gdk_visual_init (gdkvisual-x11.c:249)

2009-07-09 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgtk2.0-0

System information: Ubuntu 9.04
Package Version: 2.16.1-0ubuntu2

I have two NVidia cards installed with the 1.73 restricted drivers. My
setup is two screens on a 6600GT, and a single screen on a FX 5200.

I rebuilt gtk from source with no optimizations, and used apport to
obtain a core dump. gdmgreeter does a SIGSEGV at
/build/buildd/gtk+2.0-2.16.1/gdk/x11/gdkvisual-x11.c:249. Examination of
the core dump with GDB shows that default_xvisual is a NULL pointer,
thus why there is a segfault when it tries to dereference the pointer.

default_xvisual is derived from the X11 screen structure for that
screen, which appears to be filled out correctly except that root_visual
is NULL, which is where default_xvisual comes from.

Its not clear to me whether the root_visual screen is allowed to be
NULL, but also its clear that GTK doesn't check for a NULL pointer there
either before using it, which seems to me to be a bug. However, I don't
have any X11 experience so I'm not quite sure what the action should be
if it does not have a default_xvisual (I noticed that it enumerated 72
visuals, so maybe it could just pick one as the system visual?).

The fact that the root_visual isn't filled in seems to me (without any
actual knowledge here) that its a bug in the NVidia driver (which I
realize isn't supported by Ubuntu), but if that is an acceptable to be
NULL then it should be fixed in GTK.

I would just like some direction on how GTK should be fixed (if it
should), and I'll patch it and test. Its quite annoying because I can't
start X until fixing this. :)

2009-07-10 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Talked with NVIDIA, looks like the problem is that the GLX visuals
aren't compatible for the two cards (or something to that effect), so
you have to disable GLX and the setup works fine after that (though, its
a bit sluggish).

[Bug 407876] [NEW] Window list misbehaves on vertical left side panel

2009-08-01 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This bug is similar in spirit to #43066 and #187540, but I believe its a
separate issue.

I have the panel with the Window List setup with the following settings:
orientation left, 200 pixels, expand on. I have three monitors using
xinerama.

This appears to occur after having more than 8 windows open, since when
I close windows it stops occurring after I have 8 windows left.

The window buttons will resize/regroup so that I cannot hit them. If
they are shown in a single column, then when I click Each time that I
try to click one of the windows in the list it will display the list in
two columns on mouse down, and go back to one column on mouse up. If I
keep the mouse down, it will keep switching the list between one and two
columns. It will randomly end up being one or two columns of list.

This is incredibly annoying, particularly given that I have three
widescreen monitors attached and it doesn't really make sense to put the
panel along the bottom for me.

2012-09-08 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Looking at PyEval_CallFunction, it appears that it expects the arguments
to be referenced before they are passed in, as it dereferences them upon
returning. By removing the Py_DECREF(pypath) at line 671 of
gtktreeview.override, this bug no longer occurs.

[Bug 89884] Giant memory leak

2007-03-05 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gaim

Gaim 2.0.0beta6 on Feisty has an apparent huge memory leak. After
leaving it on overnight, memory usage according to the system monitor
has grown to 447.3MB. It was running on my desktop behind gnome-
screensaver. One buddy window was open (AIM), and the icon was an
animated one. Additionally, I am using it for both AIM and MSN
messenger, and in the morning there was a new email waiting. It is not
really using any processor time at all. Additionally, some non-standard
features of my system:

- xinerama, 3 monitors running on 2 NVidia cards
- I use KDE kicker in the gnome environment for because its support for being
positioned on the side of the screen is better

[Bug 91498] gnome screensaver only on one screen with NVidia-9755/xinerama

2007-03-11 Thread Dustin Spicuzza
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

With Feisty, NVidia drivers 1.0.9755 (actually, anything above 8776 is
affected) with xinerama, gnome screensaver only shows up on one screen,
and does not blank the other screens. I found a recommendation to
disable composite, but its still broken.

Package: gnome-screensaver

Error message:

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;

option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Also along these lines, the 'properties' page breaks also -- it shows up
and quickly disappears:
