[Bug 47260] Re: Distributor icon is ugly
The box emphasises that the logo is not just a logo but you can actually press it. Therefore i like it. It could be further to the left though. [Bug 1798888] [NEW] Displays shows only one display
Public bug reported: Upon upgrading from 18.04 to 18.10, only one of my displays is working. Only one display shows in control centre. I have two, one connected via DisplayPort, one via VGA. The VGA works, DP doesn't. If I unplug the VGA display, then the DisplayPort display turns on. Plug it back in, the DisplayPort display turns off. XRANDR shows both displays. Confusingly, the VGA display appears as "DP-2" in XRANDR, and the DisplayPort connected display shows as "HDMI-1." If I manually enable the second display with xrandr --output HDMI-1 --right-of DP-2 --mode 1920x1080 then the second display starts to work, and it appears in the Displays section of the control centre, as it used to in Ubuntu 18.04. [Bug 1816896] [NEW] Laptop (HP EliteBook 9470m, Ivy Bridge) unresponsive after resume
Public bug reported: This problem is new in Ubuntu 18.10; it did not occur with 18.04. When my laptop, an HP EliteBook 9470m, with Intel Ivy Bridge graphics, comes out of resume, often the UI is unresponsive. Typically I get a black screen, a screen with just the GNOME top bar, or what the screen was showing before the laptop was suspended. The mouse cursor moves but the UI is unresponsive to input. If I switch VTs with Ctrl+Alt+F1, the lock screen shows, I can enter my password and after that my GUI session begins to work again, where I left off. The problem appears to increase in frequency when I add external monitors. It occurs on every suspend/resume if one or more external monitors (DisplayPort or VGA) have been used since the laptop was booted, even if they were present at boot, or subsequently removed. If an extra monitor was plugged in while the laptop was turned off (scenario: come home, put laptop in docking station with extra monitor attached, turn on) then often the UI will still fail to respond after switching to the lock screen with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and I will need to reboot the laptop. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1816896 Title: Laptop (HP EliteBook 9470m, Ivy Bridge) unresponsive after resume To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1816896/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1816896] Re: Laptop (HP EliteBook 9470m, Ivy Bridge) unresponsive after resume
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: This problem is new in Ubuntu 18.10; it did not occur with 18.04. [Bug 295267] [NEW] Multiple entries in 'Open With' and 'Open With Other Application'
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus Recently when I right clicked on a media file there were two entries for VLC in the menu which appeared (only one of which worked). When I selected the 'Open With Other Application', there were seven instances of VLC, only one of which worked (the others said 'Could not find 'wxvlc'). There were also three instances of Text Editor, and two of Amarok and Firefox. Thanks to some help I got at the Ubuntu forum, I managed to remove the duplicate entry from 'Open With', but the multiple entries for various programs remain in 'Open With Other Application'. It seems that when some programs are updated, an entry in 'Open With Other Application' and (in the case of VLC) 'Open With' is duplicated. [Bug 296027] [NEW] Brasero reports it is 'fixating'
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: brasero In British English, the word has only a rather inappropriate and comic meaning in this context: to direct (the libido) toward an infantile form of gratification to focus or concentrate one's gaze or attention intently or obsessively to undergo arrestment at a stage of development It seems the word can have the desired meaning in American English, but only as a Transitive verb: transitive verb1 : to make fixed, stationary, or unchanging I believe Windows says something like 'finalising the disk'. I did some more playing around with this and I found my GDMSESSION variable is set to "default". If I add: export GDMSESSION="$DESKTOP_SESSION" if [ "$GDMSESSION" = "default" ] ; then export GDMSESSION=gnome fi then Unity will start correctly. [Bug 518230] Re: Some PDF forms don't save entered information
Donald Henry wrote on 2010-04-14 My IRS Form 1040A appeared as a print preview of the actual document to send to the IRS. But neither printing it nor saving it on my computer and printer cannot be done. I already know that printing to paper and to file cannot be done from previous experience. So, once this problem report is complete and sent the developers, I will attempt to troubleshoot that issue using a technique sent to me by a Ubuntu volunteer (engineer?). External to this issue is that the IRS electronic forms program known as FreeFile produced by a contractor has yet to reveal to me how to e-file my completed tax return to the IRS. It seems to me that completing a simple tax return by pen on a paper IRS form and mailing it via USPS is a lot easier than doing it via computer and electronic filing over telecommunications lines. A lesson here for all of us is that using a computer to prepare and print/save/file/send anything one time takes much longer to learn and perform than doing it by pre-computer hand method. Tax return programs, for example, are only useful for persons who have no arithmetic ability and/or have a need for the program to interpret the tax code and fill in a space on a form for an uneducated taxpayer. That is not an issue with Linux Ubuntu, I will admit, but I am spending a lot of time using this platform after recently have been persuaded that Linux Ubuntu is better that Windows XP. [Bug 674707] Re: Little Mermaid 2 DVD won't play - "Could not read from resource"
I installed the ubuntu-restricted-extras. This had no effect. The VLC player has the same problem. The dvd drive works, and I can see the file folders and files on the dvd, but when I try to play one, it won't play them. I tried other DVD's in the drive. A friend's DVD, Red Versus Blue, which is a non-copyrighted dvd, played fine. However, "The Patriot" had the same problem. [Bug 86282] Theme previews go away after installing new widget themes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center In GNOME's theme switcher (GNOME Control Center version 2.16.1-0ubuntu4), the theme previews change to question marks after I install two widget themes in a row by dragging the .tar.gz files to the theme list. When prompted to switch to the new theme or keep the current theme, I always choose to keep the current theme, and the previews are shown as normal again after I close the theme switcher and re-open it. I've been able to reproduce this every time, and it doesn't happen with icon themes - when I install two widget themes in a row, the previews go away after the second one is installed, but when I install an icon-only theme and then a widget theme, nothing happens until I install another widget theme. In case it matters, the theme I used while installing these was Mist, and there were no third-party themes installed in ~/.themes. If it would help, I could attach a tarball of the exact themes I was installing. ** Affects: control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Theme previews go away after installing new widget themes https://launchpad.net/bugs/86282 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 86282] Re: Theme previews go away after installing new widget themes
Sorry, I probably should've tried the latest version first. [Bug 60438] Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system
Public bug reported: Latest version Ubuntu (kernel update this morning!). Selecting the first offered screen saver below the 'line' after 'Random' (apparently not there?) manages to change the preference but shoots the GUI in the head. Powering off & rebooting... going back to System/Preferences/Screen Saver/ will again lock'er up solid. Too new to find this yet, directions appreciated. Re: [Bug 60438] Re: Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system
Hello from Pensacola FL, Radeon 9700 Pro, and running hypertorus manually works fine. (Nice looking too! & Now I have some better troubleshooting knowledge). Any individual Screensaver selected (below Random) locks me up. Have to reboot & go into the (finally found) Configuration Editor to reset the selection to Blank or Random, or the system will also lockup when the screensaver operates on time. (I was beginning to think only the system could select individual screensavers and the list was just to let you know what would show up Randomly!) The first one on the list, do you mean the "4D Hypertorus" ? >From bug #58963: This could be a problem with some 3D screensavers taking down your machine. It is probably nothing wrong with gnome-screensaver itself, but your video drivers. What kind of hardware (esp. graphic card) do you have? Can you please try running "/usr/lib/xscreensaver/hypertorus" in a Terminal window, and see if it crashes your machine? ** Changed in: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed => Needs Info -- Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system https://launchpad.net/bugs/60438 -- Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system https://launchpad.net/bugs/60438 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
Re: [Bug 60438] Re: Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system
No Deco doens't crash. Sent Xorg.0.log.old as attachment this afternoon in reply to your pervious message together with error reflected in terminal from trying antspotlight that locked system. Message bounced, took as acknolegement. And I see that message posted @ bug report. Also sent Harware Manager images, syslog, & previous Xorg.0.log.old earlier, no indication of this message at all? Attachments are being stripped? Some messages get through some don't? Advise how to get these to you as this work is typically deleted after sending and will now have to be repeated. Re: [Bug 60438] Re: Changing Screen Saver locks up entire system
OK, as per instructed just after rebooting from crash (don't see any Error messages in syslog) here's the other. I ran antspotlight in the Terminal and got this there... ***WARN ONCE** file r300_state.c function r300Enable line 456 TODO - double side stencil! ** no ctx->FragmentProgram._Current!! ***WARN ONCE** file r300_render.C function r300_get_num_verts line 193 user error: 33 is not a valid number of vericles for primitive QS! *** As best jotted down by hand, system was locked (mouse moves!). And thinking gee, if Random means getting one that can crash the system I'll just set it to hypertorus which worked. I did, and it was looking good in the sample display (thumbnail, whatever you call it). Then it stopped moving and had locked up as I said originally. Just took a while this time! Hope this helps? (One surely without 3D graphics). Can you please look through /var/log/syslog to see if there were any error messages? OK... here's that log, just after locking up with antspotlight as above. (I only have to switch back to WinXP and log in here in IE! As FF won't log in in either OS?
