[Bug 584428] Re: Lucid server upgrade login times out
a) I think gdm is the wrong package on several counts the most important being that this is a server install and there is no mention of a graphical login, and I experience this on an server with no console as well b) I think this is related to samba / winbindd because when I checked the logs there were error messages related to winbindd (this is a Linux- only network, however it appears winbindd is now a default part of the Ubuntu installation). c) I modified /etc/samba/smb.conf to have the line auth methods = guest sam winbind and logins on the console worked correctly where they hadn't before. ** Tags added: samba winbind ** Tags added: console login timeout -- Lucid server upgrade login times out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 584428] Re: Lucid server upgrade login times out
I was wrongwinbind line (and also disabling windbind in PAM) doesn't solve the issue for me. I seems once I successfully sudo I can login from the console just fine until I reboot. -- Lucid server upgrade login times out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 584428] Re: Lucid server upgrade login times out
Ok, this time I really have solved it, at least for me. I have rebooted and login now works (using the change described below). The problem is with the line: auth optionalpam_smbpass.so migrate in /etc/pam.d/common-auth Removing this line solves the problem. I haven't tested with winbind re-enabled yet, but I suspect it will work, and if winbind is disabled (using pam-auth-update), then login, with samba installed, works. ** Package changed: gdm (Ubuntu) => samba (Ubuntu) -- For Lucid server with Samba console login times out https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/584428 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 320024] Re: Jaunty Alpha 3 - After changing system password gnome-keyring does not unlock at login
I can confirm that on Lucid that changing the password in System|Administration|Users and Groups fails to change the password for the gnome-keyring, which causes all kinds of request of administrator passwords, which will fail if you don't know that it's supposed to the the *old* password. Also, there is no documentation on how to change the gnome-keyring password, which means users are left with a broken system. ** Changed in: gnome-keyring (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Confirmed -- Jaunty Alpha 3 - After changing system password gnome-keyring does not unlock at login https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/320024 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

This is the syslog from the password change. It appears gnome-keyring- daemon is using the old password to try to change the login keyring password. [Bug 15296] Re: gthumb mis-detects shark (sq905) digital camera
I have the same problem with a Shark digital camera, whic is sq905 based, (the sq905 driver was orginally develeped for the argus dc-1510 IIRC).
