Disabling the extension did not work. I have looked through the
duplicated bug, but currently I believe I am at the updated version. It
is very similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2050865/comments/50
but with the extension disabled.

[Bug 2097003] Re: GNOME desktop glitches and then crashed after closing program window

2025-01-30 Thread Chi Wang
The program is Supersymmetry
(https://github.com/SymmetricDevs/Supersymmetry) Minecraft modpack with
PrismLauncher. I can try to check if other modpacks also have this
issue.

However, I am not using 2 screens. The only display output is my
laptop's default screen.

How do I disable automatic screen rotation? I cannot find this option.
However, the glitch is triggered when I close certain program's windows. The
meta_window_delete makes much more sense.

[Bug 2097003] [NEW] GNOME desktop glitches and then crashed after closing program window

2025-01-30 Thread Chi Wang
Public bug reported:

When I closed one window in the current desktop session, the following
assertion failed seems to happen:

meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int)
number < g_list_length (manager->logical_monitors)' failed
meta_workspace_get_work_area_for_monitor: assertion 'logical_monitor != NULL'
failed

This issue is currently only observed on one certain program. Namely, a
Minecraft modpack instance. When it happens, first, the desktop glitches
as if only right half of the window is used to render the rest of the
windows, and the previously closed game menu substitutes as the new
desktop background. Then shortly after, the desktop crashes into the
"log out" white screen.

2025-02-14 Thread Chi Wang
After upgrading my system (including nvidia drivers, gnome-shell,
mutter, etc), the glitch now does not crash the desktop, but rather like
a trailing effect. More specifically, dragging a window around will left
a trail behind.

These three errors still persist in the log:

 二 15 14:05:15 littlecube-Nitro-AN515-58 gnome-shell[2522]:
../clutter/clutter/clutter-actor.c:8692: Actor 'dash [Gjs_ui_dash_Dash]' tried

meta_monitor_manager_get_logical_monitor_from_number: assertion '(unsigned int)

It is possible to use Alt + F2 and r to restart the desktop session.

I will try to disable the extension. By the way, I never have any
physical external monitor connected to the HDMI port for a certain
period. The mirror setting was the last setting I used for sharing my
screen on a projector, but that was a long time ago.

2025-07-19 Thread Chi Wang
Recently I switched X11 to Wayland and this crash stops happening. The
package mutter is updated to amd64 46.2-1ubuntu0.24.04.9, and it does
crash on X11 but not on Wayland. I have also checked the system log and
nothing wrong seems to be appearing.

Although in other similar cases (#2117277 and #2050865) the users use
Wayland. Nevertheless, hopefully this helps narrow down the cause.
