[Bug 845760] [NEW] Evolution meeting requests have wrong times

2011-09-09 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Public bug reported:

I get meeting requests at work (via MAPI plugin, Exchange 2003) and the
times are always off. The meeting might be at noon but Evo thinks it's
five hours later. My time zone settings are correct, I've double-
checked.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-10-28 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Just wanted to weigh in: simply adding "nomodeset" to my kernel command
line worked! I was able to use the proprietary NVidia drivers, no
problem. I'm on a ThinkPad T570.

It looks like due to this change, I'm using X11 instead of Wayland. I
don't know if I care either way, everything works great and the graphics
are snappy. Hopefully Wayland will be ready by the time 18.04 launches.

Sorry, there were many different solutions posted so I wasn’t sure which
was the correct one.

So just to be clear, is the solution:

$ sudo apt purge gdm3

??

What’s the exact list of steps to resolve this?

Thanks! Ran that on a VM as a test. I wound up with a text-based login

You're right :) I skipped the nvidia part. Just wanted to see how the VM
would behave if I purged gdm. Then I realized lightdm was not installed,
so that would be an extra step on that list.

Thanks, everyone

Did the steps above on my laptop. It works, though the "Ubuntu" login

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-11-01 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Bernadette:

Just to make sure, did you try the below in this exact order?

sudo apt purge gdm3
(optional step if lightdm is not auto installe) sudo apt install -y lightdm
sudo apt purge nvidia*
sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
sudo apt install nvidia-384

This worked for me. At the lightdm login screen, I had to choose "Ubuntu
on Xorg" as the default environment before logging in. Wayland does not
work at all.

Your kernel should be ok. You may be experiencing an unrelated issue.
17.10 is kind of a mess.

Good luck! I went through several tries to get it right. Make sure after
removing gdm that lightdm is installed.. that's key. And if you get a

the right track hopefully.

[Bug 1172934] Re: empathy notification wrong sender name

2013-08-12 Thread CaptSaltyJack
What I think you mean is, in the notification menu, when you get an
incoming message, it shows your own name rather than the person you're
talking to.

I've discovered what causes this: if you start a conversation with
someone, your own name is shown in the notification menu. The other
party has to initiate the conversation in order for it to show their
name (obviously this is a bug).

There is no Xsession error. And this bug does reproduce in a brand new
guest account as well.

2011-10-20 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Oh, nice tip. That worked, thanks! Still though, one shouldn't have to
do that. Something is clearly getting trashed in the theme settings upon
upgrade to 11.10.

[Bug 662040] Re: Seahorse/GPG has no option for ASCII output

2011-07-11 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Nope, the new version still does not allow an ASCII (armored) encrypted
file as an option. It always encrypts to a binary file.
