[Bug 1386803] Re: [TOPBLOCKER] unity8 crashing a lot since image #126

2014-10-29 Thread Brendan Donegan
I've just been testing silo 13 - it makes the crashes go away but after
enabling flight mode I can't disable it. The fix might need a bit of
tweaking.

[Bug 504337] Re: Evolution searching messages affords no hits

2011-06-03 Thread Brendan Donegan
Really, strictly speaking this is not a bug. The quick search bar if you
click on the magnifying glass says 'Subject or Addresses contains', and
if you go to 'Advanced Search' you'll see this rule is defined as 'Any
of the Subject, Sender and Recipient' contain the *whole* specified
string. This is never going to be the case if you use keywords from both
the Sender and the Subject. Unless I've misunderstood your definition of
the problem. It would be good to get some screenshots showing where you
entered the terms and which results you did and didn't get.

[Bug 783612] Re: Nautilus shows wrong file name in copy/move dialog

2011-06-08 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

I'm unable to confirm this bug in Natty with the latest updates applied,
because it seems to me the behavior has changed.

These are the steps I took:

1.) Create a directory called 'test'
2.) Copy (by clicking and dragging while holding down Ctrl) a large file (in my
case oneiric-desktop-i386.iso) to the directory 'test'
3.) Wait for oneiric-desktop-i386.iso to transfer over
4.) Select the copy of oneiric-desktop-i386.iso that isn't in 'test' and one
other file (in my case ubuntu-11.04-server-amd64.iso) and copy by Ctrl+dragging
them to 'test'
5.) Observe the 'File Conflict' dialog. This has correct info IMO ("Replace
'oneiric-desktop-i386.iso'?" and then gives the size of
oneiric-desktop-i386.iso)
6.) Click the 'Skip' button
7.) Observe the file copy dialog. It says 'copying 2 files' and gives the
progress in terms of the size of both files. It should only say it's copying 1
file and give the size of it, as the other file has been skipped.

Can you please check this behavior again with the latest updates applied
and see if we get the same thing?

[Bug 793342] Re: Choosing write to disc causes Nautilus to restart

2011-06-08 Thread Brendan Donegan
OK, thanks for the info - just need a bit more.

I suppose it's a blank one that's in the drive? I'm only saying that
because I only have e.g. movie DVD's with me at the moment, so can't
check with a blank disc.

Probably you need to wait for someone to come along with a blank DVD and
using a 64-bit build to be sure. For now I'll set it to 'New' since I
can't reproduce it myself, but don't doubt you are having a problem.

Seems I spoke too soon, I'm now unable to reproduce it. Regardless,
after some discussion - this should be a compiz issue rather than

never with any other application.

[Bug 794862] Re: Rhythmbox should exit on clicking X

2011-06-09 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

When you say it doesn't quit on the X, do you mean that it goes to the
background (more like minimising) or it doesn't close at all? Either
way, the behaviour I get on clicking the X is for it to close completely
(quit).

I'm just wondering what you were expecting and trying to establish the
problem you're having.

[Bug 793291] Re: DoS window manager with extremely long error

It does seem like the window that is created with the long title
proceeds to crash, so setting this to confirmed. However this is a real
corner case (unless you can show some more common scenario in which the
title might be very long), so it should be set to Low Importance.

[Bug 793291] Re: window manager crash with extremely long window name

2011-06-09 Thread Brendan Donegan
Some more info on this one -

It seems the 'character limit' (though my feeling is the bug is based on
the window width rather than characters) is about 1000. With compiz the
behaviour is that the window closes and the area where the window would
have been becomes corrupted in some way (if you move other things in
there then blurring takes places).

[Bug 508859] Re: Contents of clipboard disappears when cutting (moving) files

2011-06-09 Thread Brendan Donegan
Marking Invalid for the same reason as given in the upstream bug. Ubuntu
does do custom patches against upstream, but not for things like this
(because they need to be maintained and something like this is not
important enough to be worth the effort). If you can convince the
upstream maintainers that it should work that way then change the Status
here.

The Bookmark now says '(null)' in Ubuntu 11.04 and you do have to select

user. However it should still have a sensible default so I agree with

description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 778167] Re: I get an error message when trying to play youtube videos

2011-06-15 Thread Brendan Donegan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 765054 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/765054

I marked this bug as a duplicate of the one mentioned above since that
one was a.) raised first, and b.) has the apport collect information.
Still, if you are using Ubuntu 11.04 and still see this problem please
comment on the other bug saying as much.

Thanks,

[Bug 760981] Re: tried to play a DVD...

2011-06-15 Thread Brendan Donegan
To add to the above comment, the suggestion given above would be nice to
implement. However you're confusing non-free stuff and really shouldn't
be there stuff. libdvdcss is a touchy subject, which is why I said it's
not as simple as that. It certainly would not be possible under any
circumstances to actually include it in the install disc.

[Bug 792692] Re: Totem don't play MIDI files a second time

2011-06-16 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

Would you be able to check if this works in the latest release of Ubuntu
(11.04)? When I checked it there the behaviour was still wrong, but not
as you described. What I found was that when playing any MIDI file the
counter would keep going even after the end of the clip. The controls do
not indicate that the playback has stopped (still a pause button there).
Moving the slider back to beginning of the track makes it start playing
for there again.

[Bug 798096] [NEW] Totem keeps playing MIDI files past the end

2011-06-16 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Steps to reproduce:

1.) Get a MIDI file (any MIDI file) from some source
2.) Open the file in Totem
3.) Wait for the track end to be reached (feel free to seek to the end if it's
a long one)
4.) Observe the playback time at the bottom left and the Play/Pause button

Expected result:

Track has stopped and the pause button has changed to play. Time shown
is 0:00/X.XX where X.XX is the length of the track

Actual result:

Time keeps going into infinity. Pause button is still pause button.

description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"

problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Bug 774944] Re: totem unable to add multiple files to playlist

2011-06-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

It's not obvious from your bug report how you are adding new tracks to
the playlist. If I had to guess I'd say it was by dragging tracks from
the file manager onto the Totem icon on the launcher (because thats the
only way I can reproduce the behavior you describe). If this is the case
please reply and change the bug status to 'New'. In the meantime I'll
set it to Incomplete until I can be sure we're talking about the same
bug.

Thanks,

[Bug 767946] Re: I'm forced to re-open stream after internet interruption. AKA "missing stop button".

2011-06-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
This seems to be even fixed in Natty as far as I can tell, so you could
try that release too.

2011-06-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

I'm unable to reproduce this in Ubuntu 11.04. Can you maybe describe
more clearly what you're seeing (or not seeing)?

[Bug 798627] Re: DBUS error when connecting to sftp share

2011-06-17 Thread Brendan Donegan
Yep, I got the same problem all of a sudden. In fact I think this worked
fine even on Natty before some updates, so it should be regression-
update. Despite this, it would still be good if you could run 'apport-
collect 798627' in a terminal to add some more info (such as versions)
to this bug.

2011-06-18 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

Thanks for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Can you
confirm whether this ever worked in a previous release? I tried also in
Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS and got the same error.

Thanks,

[Bug 799203] Re: Regression of bug #433714

2011-06-18 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

I'm on a fresh install of Natty and I don't have this problem. After
selecting 'Yes, I have an existing account I want to use' (I think
that's the option) I can choose IRC as an account type, among a long
list of others. Is this the option you're selecting too?

[Bug 799272] [NEW] Oneiric: Delete key not working as key to delete file

2011-06-18 Thread Brendan Donegan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Very simply, since updating Oneiric to the latest packages the 'Delete'
key doesn't move a file to Trash. I thought the key mappings might have
been messed up, but the key works to delete text in any text fields so
it can only be that Nautilus isn't translating the Delete scan code into
the right action. Tried with a number of different files in different
locations, so no special tricks.

[Bug 799338] Re: dunno

2011-06-19 Thread Brendan Donegan
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 799272] Re: Oneiric: Delete key not working as key to delete file

2011-06-20 Thread Brendan Donegan
Seems like a bad solution to me. Sure they've gotten rid of a usability
issue for those with slippy fingers (I have very slippy fingers and have
never found this to be a problem, though not saying it isn't one), but
they've created one even worse for those who got used to just pressing
Delete (I would never have found this change if I didn't raise this bug)

Wasn't the original bug about it not warning? Why not just have Delete on it's
own warn and Ctrl+Delete do it immediately? Anyway, I guess I'll have to engage
with the Nautilus guys to get it fixed (or stop using Nautilus).

Hi,

So I can confirm it's the same issue, the next time it happens can you keep
moving the mouse/pressing keys and check of it eventually shows the password
prompt? For me it usually takes a while.

[Bug 801585] Re: evolution crash does not produce crash report

2011-06-24 Thread Brendan Donegan
Hi,

Apport is disabled in released version of Ubuntu for a few reasons. It
can be re-enabled using:

'gconftool -s /apps/update-notifier/show_apport_crashes --type bool
true'

I'm actually not sure if crash reports should still be created despite
apport being turned off. Try this though and let me know if it works for
you.
