[Bug 2097715] [NEW] Nautilus fails when Nvidia in Performance Mode

2025-02-09 Thread Lisa Nelson
Public bug reported:

Fresh install of 24.10:
Files/Nautilus working great.
Checked that Nvidia drivers were in stalled (560) and after running CS:GO to
test the video I tried Xplane12. But it HATES wayland, so I edited the
custome.conf and uncommented out the wayland line. Rebooted, and again used
files/nautilus to open Xplane12. Files/Nautilus worked fine, but Xplane12
fails with vulkan issues.

Opened Nvida control and switched from 'NVIDIA On-Demand' to 'NVIDIA
(Performance Mode). This required a restart which I did.
After logging back in, files/nautilus no longer works. But Xplane12 will by
staring it from a terminal.

[Bug 2097620] [NEW] anomal blinking of a cursor in terminal

2025-02-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I open a terminal (the vanilla one that pops up when I press ctrl+super+T),
open several tabs, and use them for few hours.
Then after a while, a cursor starts to blink rapidly when the cursor is on the
area on the tabs where the hostname is printed.

2025-02-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
> Edge/Chromium, Android Studio, Netbeans, Visual Studio Code

I think most of those might be Chromium/Electron-based so they will use
X11 by default.

In Chrome or Chromium you can fix it by setting this to Wayland:

  chrome://flags/#ozone-platform-hint

For the other apps, I would hope they recognise the command line
version:

  --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland

[Bug 2090998] Re: Can't use shortcut to move a window to another screen when a window is tiled left/right on secondary screen

2025-02-09 Thread Paul White
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. We are sorry that we do not
always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner.
Is this still an issue?

I note two things:

1) None of the applications you refer to are provided by the Ubuntu project.
2) You haven't confirmed the release of Ubuntu you are using although the video
implies Ubuntu 24.04.

In the absence to any reply to comment #2 I'm moving this to 'gnome-
shell' which will bring this bug report to the attention of Ubuntu's
Desktop team.

Do you see this issue with any officially provided application from the
Ubuntu repositories?

[Bug 2097392] [NEW] Setting scaling makes font rendering bad

2025-02-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Very serious UX problem affecting lot (most) of the users, Ubuntu 24.10:

On my FullHD notebook, Ubuntu 24.10, Gnome, setting scaling to anything
other then 100% has really bad effect on font quality and crispness of
the text. Previously, I had scaling set to 125% and fonts looked hazy
and wrong. First, I thought it is some font-rendering issue, but then I
realized that when I turn off scaling (set to 100%) and enlarge fonts
instead in Gnome-tweaks, fonts are about the same size as with scaling,
but good looking and crisp! However, scaling is not universally bad for
fonts in all applications, in Gnome Control Center (Settings) or System
monitor, fonts are crisp, even with scaling. But non-Gnome-system apps I
use (Edge/Chromium, Android Studio, Netbeans, Visual Studio Code) all
have bad looking fonts with any scaling on, fractional or not.
Especially annoying in web browsers. If you render same web page in
Windows and Ubuntu, text looks about same quality at 100% (no scaling),
but at any other scaling Windows keeps its text rendering quality, while
Ubuntu don't.

Users experiencing this font-rendering degradation probably have no idea
something is wrong, they just see hazy, low-quality fonts on the screen.
Problem is less visible on high-dpi screens, and more annoying on FullHD
screens or less-dpi TVs.

[Bug 2090998] [NEW] Can't use shortcut to move a window to another screen when a window is tiled left/right on secondary screen

2025-02-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

To Reproduce:
- Have two screens with same resolution aligned
- Open a Google Chrome window
- Put it on the secondary screen
- Tile it left or right (default: super + left/right)
- Try to move it to the main screen with shortcut (default: super + shift +
left/right)

What's happening?
Nothing

What should happen?
The window should go to the other screen

Note:
- I reproduced it with Chrome and JetBrains IDEs (2024.3 versions) but couldn't
reproduce it with Slack installed with Snap.
- From the main screen to the secondary screen, the window is moved to the
other screen successfully but doesn't take the full height of the screen. It
can be brought back to the main screen without issue.
- I have no idea if it's an issue of the window manager or the desktop
environment. It seems to be related to the fact that main screen has a
different height than any other screen because of the status bar provided by
ubuntu default desktop environment (a workaround would probably have been to
have this bar on every screen but it doesn't seem to be possible easily).
