[Bug 2091231] Re: package gnome-shell-common 46.0-0ubuntu6~24.04.5 failed to install/upgrade: installed gnome-shell-common package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 2

2025-01-14 Thread Eduardo Barretto
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 2060613] Re: Gedit sometimes crashes by segmentation fault at closure

2025-01-14 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I believe this is caused by the snippets plugin. When I disable it, I no
longer get a crash on exit. Unfortunately, it looks like the snippets
plugin was removed in later versions.

I'll comment on that bug as well, it just needs an SRU template.
Otherwise I agree, looks like they could go together.

Thanks for the patches!

I've uploaded the Plucky one. While we're waiting for that to build and
migrate, could you please change the bug description to match the SRU
template, and re-subscribe sponsors when it's all set?

Also, could you please update the versions to be e.g.
0.12.0-1.1ubuntu1.1 and 0.12.0-1ubuntu1.1 respectively?

Thanks again!

[Bug 2092815] Re: "User Settings" button in malcontent-control no longer works

2025-01-14 Thread Bin Li
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
The "User Settings" button in malcontent-control no longer works (opens
the actual Users panel) because the 'user-accounts' panel has been
merged into the 'system' panel in GNOME 46.

This was fixed in upstream by the following commit, but needs to be
backported into the current package version in Ubuntu:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pwithnall/malcontent/-/commit/e63fbfb551e694ac0b69176acff86a6da23777d0
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Find a machine with 24.04
+
+ * Install malcontent-gui
+ $ sudo apt install -y malcontent-gui
+ * Run malcontent-control, and click "User Settings" button.
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * This patch is picked from upstream, it's low risk.

Hi simon, the plucky's code is the same with oracular, I believe you
could apply the oracular's debdiff directly on plucky.

AFAICT the error:

update-alternatives: error: cannot stat file '/usr/share/icons/DMZ-

means some kind of file system corruption. So that's not a gnome-shell

[Bug 2093399] Re: Screen Stuttering on Intel Graphics when using X11 non-standard modes

2025-01-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Those video files seem to have bogus frame rate information.
Depending on the player they are reported as 25.415FPS, 26.318FPS,
120FPS or 3FPS. But they all appear to be low frame rate so I'm
guessing they're close to 24-30FPS. It would be helpful to record a
video in native 60FPS or higher if you have some other camera that can
do so.

Separately, it appears you have the old i965 video acceleration driver
installed. That's probably correct for the Haswell integrated graphics,
but it's definitely the wrong driver for an Intel Arc GPU. And even if
it's correct for Haswell, it may have bitrotted in recent years.

Please try with no driver installed:

  sudo apt remove i965-va-driver i965-va-driver-shaders

and then again with the newer driver installed (may only work with Arc,
not the integrated graphics):

  sudo apt install intel-media-va-driver-non-free

  [ Impact ]

After the notification changes in 46, notifications no longer
appear on the lock screen, regardless of settings.

This is a regression from previous versions.

  [ Test case ]

In a standard installation (or where notifications are enabled in the locked
screen, as per notifications settings):
   $ sleep 5 && notify-send 'Hello locked' -i start-here
   - Hit Super+L

  It can be automatized by:

   $ gnome-screensaver-command -l & sleep 5 && notify-send 'Hello locked'
  Secret -i start-here

- No notification content should be exposed, only the icon.
+ No notification content should be exposed, only the icon and the calling
+ process.

Disable the notifications on the lock screen and retry and check that no
  notification appears.

  [ Regression potential ]

Unwanted contents is exposed in the lockscreen
