[Bug 2093112] [NEW] gnome terminal input lag and stutter

2025-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

What happens:

- The cursor in gnome-terminal lags behind typed input, sometimes
stuttering back and forth so characters appear, disappear, and then
appear again a fraction of a second later. It's as if the frame buffer
is occasionally replaying the last few frames.

This appears to be a close relative of

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2059847

because this is _exactly_ how I experienced that bug, and this behavior
disappeared once the fix was released but now it has returned.

I'm unclear if this bug is a problem with mutter, the nvidia driver, or
some interaction between the two but they would on first glance seem the
obvious culprits given the similarity this displays to #2059847

Release is Ubuntu 20.04.5
Kernel version 6.8.0-50-generic

potentially related packages versions

nvidia-driver-550 550.120-0ubuntu0.22.04.1
mutter-common 42.9-0ubuntu9
gnome-terminal 3.44.0-1ubuntu1

Please let me know what additional info would be useful and I'll attempt
to provide.

going to file it against mutter, because that seems like the best place
to start.

[Bug 2088416] [NEW] Additional monitor screen freeze frame but still responds underneath

2025-01-06 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

- I have a laptop that I connected two additional monitors to. 1, via USB C,
and the 2nd via HDMI output.
- At some point, the USB C connected monitor froze. The monitor was still
responsive and working normally, but the image on it did not change according
to input / move the mouse etc.
- The computer was not locked up at all, the other two screens functioned
normally.
- When I alt-tabbed, I could see the browser window (in the window preview)
that was up on that screen did not match the image displayed on the screen (the
web page was scrolled down).
- I found that I could manipulate the browser and even drag it from the
right/USB C monitor to the other screens, and it worked normally.
- Unplugging and replugging the USB C cable refreshed it and it worked
normally.
- I found another instance of this also happening -

[Bug 2042681] Re: Font hinting on text field placeholder is inconsistent with the rest of the UI

2025-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hinting is different to subpixel rendering, but both are related to
antialiasing. But my pedantic comment aside, I think the only real
problem here is bad UI design. No text, including the placeholder
headings, should be rendered smaller than the user interface font size.
Because that may make it too small to read. Similarly egregious is the
use of grey text on a grey background.

2025-01-06 Thread Nathan Teodosio
Thank you for your feedback, Gre0.

Can you please give context on your previous situation, i.e., were you
ever hit by the bug as currently described or were you just testing the
.2 update, realized you could not login anymore (I assume you could
login normally in .1, right?) and traced it back to here?

What anyway bugs me is that the patch[1] in that Mutter update does not
change logic pertaining to the ownership check, it just makes the error
messsage more verbose. Also the ownership of / is not checked, just /tmp
and /tmp/.X11-unix, can you confirm you wrote

  sudo chown root: /

correctly?

[Bug 2093092] Re: all things are scrolling bug in ubuntu 24.04 . and somethime type not working

2025-01-06 Thread HekateSwitch
That sounds like a frustrating issue with Ubuntu 24.04. The scrolling
bug could be related to driver problems or a configuration issue. Try
checking if your graphics drivers are up-to-date or reinstalling them.
Sometimes, enabling or disabling specific features like "Smooth
Scrolling" in the settings can help. As for the typing issue, it could
be a keyboard layout problem or a software conflict. Make sure that your
keyboard settings are correctly configured, and you might want to check
if any background processes are interfering. If the problem persists, it
could help to check the Ubuntu forums for more troubleshooting tips. For
additional insights and support, check out https://hekateswitch.com/.

[Bug 2092667] Re: Lack of LCD antialiasing in GNOME in Ubuntu 24.10 (24.04 the most probably too) is showstopper for migration

2025-01-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Indeed this is a feature of GTK4. And GTK4 is a feature of most apps in
Ubuntu 24.x. It won't be fixed because that's a political discussion for
GTK, not for Ubuntu. But you can avoid the issue by using Ubuntu 22.04
instead, which is supported until at least 2027.

If instead you would like more recent software then consider using a
non-GNOME desktop.

Comment #14 appears to be a crash in the proprietary amdgpu driver,
which is not relevant here.

[Bug 1778983] Re: Resume from suspend on Wayland breaks window positioning

2025-01-06 Thread Schoko
I can confirm this is still an issue in Ubuntu 24.04.

Thanks @jkavery for the gnome extension! The extension description is where I
found the way to this bug report.
Nonetheless, it would be great to have a permanent fix for the bug. This
continues to be a nuisance to click "save" or "restore" whenever I (un-)suspend
and (un-)dock my laptop.

The upstream bug was closed because no one could reproduce it anymore.
Also Lunar has reached end-of-life.
