[Bug 2092872] [NEW] Flatpak app desktop actions are extremely slow on gnome+wayland

2025-01-02 Thread Jarkko Lehtoranta
Public bug reported:

Desktop actions (right click menu on the app icon (e.g. New Window))
take 30-120 seconds to complete on flatpak apps running on Ubuntu 24.10.
This is a known bug, which is reported upstream in Gnome
(https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/7958) and Flatpak
(https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/6022). I am filing a bug
here, since this issue severely hinders the usability of e.g. the
ubuntu-dock on 24.10 and it looks like it will take a long time for any
upstream fix to reach an Ubuntu release. The proper fix is to either
update flatpak to >=1.15.0 (in development) or to modify the desktop app
action launch logic in gnome. Perhaps we could consider some patch to
mitigate this issue on Ubuntu until it is fixed upstream? One option
could be to utilize an apparmor profile
(https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak/issues/6022#issuecomment-2552229473).
Are there any other suggestions or should we focus on the upstream
fixes?
