[Bug 2090805] [NEW] gdm blank screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After applying updates, Ubuntu 22.04 suggested rebooting the system. After rebooting the system, the GUI doesn't come up. It also seems to have changed grub defaults so that the grub menu no longer displays for a countdown of 3 seconds. During the first reboot after the update, a whole bunch of errors in red flashed by as part of the boot sequence but I wasn't able to capture them. That led to a non-responsive black screen with no cursor. Then I tried a couple of more reboots, but while I didn't see any red text, the system still didn't put up a GUI. I tried a few things that didn't work. I then tried to do a do-release- upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 that I had been putting of because I couldn't afford the risk of downtime if the upgrade went badly in case it fixed whatever config snafu the first package-level upgrade screwed up. I also tried to do a package reinstall of the ubuntu-desktop, gdm, and gnome packages and none of that work, although I did get a cursor on a black screen at one point, so I think the compositor is working, but the display manager isn't working. I can run commands on the Ctl-Alt-F2 virtual console, which is how I initiated this bug report, but that's it. As far as I know, I'm running gnome with the Wayland compositor. There were a bunch of apparmor messages and warnings at one point, so I'm not sure if that could be the problem. [Bug 2043517] Re: gnome-shell on non-active VT busy-loops through libwayland-server.so (sometimes)
I confirm: 1. the test plan reproduced the bug on current Noble. 2. the test plan no longer reproduced the bug, after installing xwayland_23.2.6-1ubuntu0.2_amd64.deb 3. "xterm" appears to work still. ## sidenote It's hard to check which apps still use X11 (and hence help confirm lack of regressions). If I open "gitk" or "git gui", they don't show in "xlsclients". But "DISPLAY= gitk" fails. I.e. gitk requires DISPLAY to be set correctly. [Bug 2092240] [NEW] Update epiphany-browser to 47.2

Open the Web app. Enter https://ubuntu.com/ in the address bar and ensure it loads successfully. 2. Visit https://www.markshuttleworth.com/ In the address bar, there should be a Reader Mode icon. [Bug 2092241] [NEW] Shotwell always steals my Android phone from Nautilus and cannot be stopped
Public bug reported: Previously, Shotwell would confusingly refuse to mount my Android phone as a camera, since Nuatilus would always mount it first. So I would just copy the files off the phone with Nautilus and *then* import them into Shotwell. Since upgrading to 24.04, that has been fixed, but now Shotwell *always* mounts my Android phone as a camera if Shotwell is open. I can be browsing around it in Nautilus, open Shotwell, and it will be taken away from Nautilus by Shotwell. There does not seem to be a Shotwell setting to control this behavior. Shotwell seems to have a couple other problems with talking to the phone (it goes through my hundreds of photos making previews at about one per second, and it sees a bunch of non-photo files or thumbnails on the phone that it thinks it probably ought to import). So I still want to copy the files oiff in Nautilus and then import them in Shotwell. So what I am *trying* to do is open Shotwell, see what the most recent photo I have is, go on the phone in Nautilus, and copy all the newer photos from the correct photos directory on the phone onto my machine, so I can import them in Shotwell from a local folder. But I can't do this, because I can't have Shotwell open while also having the phone mounted in Nautilus. GNOME 47 doesn't sound sensible because the feature looks way too large for a stable maintenance branch: 108 files changed, +4167, −1582 Even if upstream merged it to 47, we would not accept it. [Bug 2091237] Re: The login problem is still not fixed, I'm using an ultrawide monitor 5120x1440 and ubuntu defaults the first login screen to 400%
There's your problem; the detected screen size is "1mm x 1mm". So Mutter just chooses the maximum scaling factor to compensate. That's clearly a software bug in the Xorg driver because decoding your EDID from the monitor I can see the monitor is reporting itself as 120 cm x 34 cm. So that we can find out which component to assign the bug to, please run: dpkg -l > packages.txt journalctl -b0 > journal.txt and attach the resulting text files here. ** Package changed: mutter (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: mutt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: mutter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: mutt (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: mutter (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to mutter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2091237 Title: The login problem is still not fixed, I'm using an ultrawide monitor 5120x1440 and ubuntu defaults the first login screen to 400% To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/2091237/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
