[Bug 610358] Re: Cannot start graphical session when disk is full (and Ubuntu does not warn about this fact)

2024-11-28 Thread Michel-Ekimia
Hi

I can't believe seb128 set the importance of this to low

We have several clients that fuck up their system completely and are
very disappointed that the system does not prevent this to happen or
present a simple way to reclaim some space

Today we have to guide them to recovery mode and they delete some files through
rm command which is not acceptable in 2024

The best way is to set a default quota on / root ext4 to have at least
100 Mo to boot the GUI

[Bug 2089814] Re: Privacy & Security does not show screenshot permissions.

2024-11-28 Thread Alessandro Astone
In which version of Ubuntu are you experiencing this bug?
Are you using flameshot as a deb, snap, flatpak, or other?

I found at least four issues when looking into this, in Ubuntu 24.10
with the flameshot deb:

1. Flameshot doesn't work when started from the application menu.
1.1. When starting flameshot form the terminal, xdg-desktop-portal cannot
determine its app_id.

2. Without app_id the portal uses the empty string "" as app_id. That
grants permissions to any other program that also does not expose an
app_id. This is poorly comunicated in the dialog.

3. gnome-control-center implements a UI for permissions in the Apps
page, but there's no entry for unidentified apps.

4. Even if the app was properly identified as org.flameshot.Flameshot,
gnome-control-center only shows the Screenshot permission for snaps or
flatpaks. This seems wrong, because all apps in Wayland must use the
portal to take screenshots.

and then the first result:

What I found during my research was:
Seemed to have the segfault location (libgtk-3.so.0.2409.32).

-

Seemed to report similar symptoms.

[Bug 2084554] Re: touchscreen drag-select is interrupted by context menu

I also have verified this update, on a Surface Pro 5.

I hadn't noticed originally, but this also fixes scrolling vertically,
which previously would be interrupted by the context menu in the same
way.

[Bug 2089843] [NEW] Applications stop receiving touch updates when the finger moves outside of the window

2024-11-28 Thread Alessandro Astone
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

A touchscreen input sequence is supposed to "grab" onto the window where
the action started, so that even when moving the finger outside of the
window updates are still sent to it. Instead, as the finger leaves the
surface of the window, that stops receiving all touch updates and does
not even receive a finish event.

[ Test Case ]

1. Open the Nautilus file manager
2. Navigate to a directory with many files
3. Switch to the vertical "List View"
4. Start scrolling with the touchscreen
5. While scrolling, let the finger leave the surface of the window to its right
7. Verify that Nautilus keeps scrolling even with the finger outside the window

[ Where problems could occur ]

mutter is the Wayland compositor library that provides graphics and inputs for
the GNOME desktop, thus is a critical component.
Problems could manifest with touch input not working anymore, or sudden log-out
if gnome-shell crashes.
The change is limited to touchscreen handling, and won't ever affect a system
without touchscreen.

[Bug 2089859] [NEW] night light only works on built-in monitor

2024-11-28 Thread Robin Sheat
Public bug reported:

I have an external monitor (connected via thunderbolt -> HDMI), and the
built-in laptop monitor. When nightlight turns on, it only turns on on
the build-in monitor.

This is a regression from 22.04 where it worked on both.

[Bug 2089814] Re: Privacy & Security does not show screenshot permissions.

2024-11-28 Thread Juan
I am using up-to-date Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS. Flameshot was installed as a
deb.

Yes 4), 3), 1) are worrying because the user can not keep track of the
permissions granted. If screenshot permission is granted, this opens the
possibility to unknown apps to record the screen.

[Bug 2087831] Re: touchscreen has no response after resume from suspend in Xorg session

2024-11-28 Thread Yao Wei
We found out that the touchscreen is disabled by libinput after suspend/resume:
Check the following properties (the touchscreen is id=10 for our DUT, see
`xinput list`)

before suspend:
$ xinput list-props 10
Device 'CUST:00 0EEF:C003':
[...snip...]
libinput Send Events Mode Enabled (328):0, 0

after suspend:
$ xinput list-props 10
Device 'CUST:00 0EEF:C003':
[...snip...]
libinput Send Events Mode Enabled (328):1, 0

According to libinput documentation
https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/latest/configuration.html,
Send Events Mode is used to turn on/off the device input in libinput.

The touchscreen function can be re-enabled after suspend, by entering the
following command:
  xinput set-prop 10 328 0 0

We are still unknown why the device is turned off after suspend.

[Bug 2077641] Re: Doesn't allow filtering all installed applications

Could this please be added to the test plan, under a new "Testing on
jammy" section or similarly named, but with more details? Are the steps
similar to the noble test plan, i.e., create a user and enable the
restrictions? Or, in other words, what exactly is expected to work and
how, in the jammy case, where there is no integration with gnome-
control-center?
