[Bug 1856604] [NEW] First char appears twice when searching in "Save as..." dialog in every application

2019-12-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Steps to reproduce:
- Open a document or web page in an application with a "Save as..." function.
Possible examples I tried are LibreOffice Calc and Brave browser.
- Hit "Save as.."
- In the file list below, navigate to to a directory that is not empty.
- Select one of the files or directories to make sure the list has focus.
- Type some letters, e.g. "test".

Expected behavior:
- Search field appears to filter the list of files and directories.
- Search string is "test".

Actual behavior:
- Search field appears to filter the list of files and directories.
- Search string is "ttest", with the first letter appearing twice.

Note:
This only happens if you follow the instructions above.

[Bug 1856846] [NEW] GDM3 login loop with X11

2019-12-18 Thread Timo Denissen
Public bug reported:

When trying to login to Gnome with an remote user from an LDAP (LDAP is
available and connectable when in GDM) using X11, GDM loops around three
to five times before actually granting access to the desktop.

This does not happen when
a) Wayland is used instead of X11 or,
b) the LDAP server is not reachable during login, using X11, or
c) a local user is logged in instead, using X11

The LDAP connection is established using the Univention Domain Join

[Bug 1844222] Re: Wayland session overlaid by window when fullscreen SDL apps exits

2019-12-18 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

  Seen on 18.04 and 19.10

+ [Impact]
+
  In the "Ubuntu Wayland" desktop
+
+ [Test case]

  sudo apt install beneath-a-steel-sky
  SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland scummvm -f -p /usr/share/scummvm/beneath-a-steel-sky
sky

Press ESC a few times and Ctrl-Q to exit.

  Expect: session returns to normal
Actual: a black rectangle covers the screen, even when switching workspaces.

- (I'm sure scummvm is doing something odd, but...)
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Animations could stop on a window that has not been destroyed.

[Bug 1853357] Re: display (whole computer?) hangs when I attempt to use DisplayLink with Wayland

2019-12-18 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ I am using the DisplayLink driver for Ubuntu provided at

+
+ DisplayLink is working under Xorg, but when I try to use it under
+ Wayland my whole display hangs and I can't even switch to a different VT
+ with Ctrl-Alt-F3 so I think maybe the whole computer is hung? Not
+ certain.
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ - Install DisplayLink drivers
+ - Start GNOME Shell in wayland mode
+ - Connect to a display-link dock
+ - Expect the shell to work properly and be visible in the external device
+
+ [ Regression potential ]

+
+
+
+
I am using the DisplayLink driver for Ubuntu provided at
https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu, which I think is the only
way to get DisplayLink fully working under Ubuntu? That is, DisplayLink
didn't work when I installed the evdi-dkms and libevdi0 Ubuntu packages,
and I couldn't find any other packages that might be relevant (did I
miss something?) so as far as I can tell the only way to get everything
  that's needed is from displaylink.com.

- DisplayLink is working under Xorg, but when I try to use it under
- Wayland my whole display hangs and I can't even switch to a different VT

-
I'm reporting this issue while logged in under Xorg because I can't
report it when logged in with my DisplayLink monitors plugged in under
  Wayland, for obvious reasons. :-/

[Bug 1856941] [NEW] chinese input option just qwerty

2019-12-18 Thread themusicgod1
Public bug reported:

Not sure where to report this, but this is where to reproduce, at least:

to reproduce
1) click on triangle at top right hand corner of screen to get menu
2) click on settings icon
3) click on language and region
4) click on +
5) click on ...
6) click on other
7) click on chinese
8) click on add

9) you should now have a 'chinese' input source. click on that
10) click on keyboard icon
this shows just a plain qwerty keyboard
alternatively
click on the input language option at the top of the screen
select chinese (zh)
start typing on an input field somewhere
result: qwerty, not chinese input.

what should happen
the chinese (zh) input should actually generate chinese characters. or
something

I set my umask in my .profile to 0027.

When I run most applications in my GNOME session, e.g. Emacs, or another
terminal, such as xterm, the umask within is 0027.

When I run gnome-terminal (3.18.3, Ubuntu 16.04), my umask is 0002.

As far as I can tell, I am starting gnome-terminal and xterm (also tried
uxterm) in the same way. Both are configured not to start a login shell.

If I run "umask" at the top of my .bashrc, in gnome-terminal it prints
0002, and in xterm, 0027.

If I run xterm from within gnome-terminal, the umask remains 0002.

Running gnome-terminal.real directly has the same effect.

I tried killing gnome-terminal-server and running gnome-terminal: same
result.

If I set the umask in my .bashrc, then the setting is respected.

There's the solution: .profile is only sourced for login shells (at
least on debian derived distributions).

Thanks for your reply. I am sorry, I tried very hard to be clear, but
obviously failed.

.profile is run at login, and sets various environment variables. These
are all correctly set in gnome-terminal and xterm.

As I said previously, neither gnome-terminal nor xterm is configured to
start a login shell. Yet in xterm both the environment variables (which
are only set in .profile) and umask are correctly set, whereas in gnome-
terminal only the environment variables are set correctly, and the umask
has been changed to a different value.

Just to confirm: /etc/gdm/Xsession on my Ubuntu system contains the

Some additional information, for the sake of clarity: umask(2) says:

A child process created via fork(2) inherits its parent's umask. The
umask is left unchanged by execve(2).

I am assuming therefore that my umask having been set, by my .profile,
by /etc/gdm/Xsession, that the same process will (eventually) start
gnome-terminal-server (via gnome-terminal), and that therefore the umask
I set should be inherited (as occurs with xterm).

This is why I believe that something has changed the umask.

Neither vte's nor gnome-terminal's code has any umask() calls.

If I start gnome-terminal (no previous instance running) from my xterm
with a weird one-off umask manually set in that xterm, my umask gets
reset to my preferred value in g-t. If I start the server manually and
then a client(*) then that weird umask is preserved.

(*)The two commands shown at
https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Terminal/Debugging, without the gdb bits.

So it must have something to do with the dbus activation, it's probably
dbus (or a closely related component) that decides on the umask.

(Remotely reminds me of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/terminator/+bug/1646034.)

[Bug 1856781] Re: /usr/bin/gnome-shell:free(): corrupted unsorted chunks

2019-12-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug is not useful because it is delayed heap corruption AND
presently shows no useful stack trace.

If you encounter a crash like this then please add:

  MALLOC_CHECK_=3
  G_SLICE=always-malloc

to your /etc/environment. Then reboot and report a new crash next time
it happens. Hopefully that one won't land here.

Correction:

To find the root cause for your case please try adding:

  MALLOC_CHECK_=3
  G_SLICE=always-malloc

to your /etc/environment.
