2019-01-15 Thread Dilip
As suggested, I tried the latest daily build of Disco from USB. I used
it for around 30 minutes. There was a moment which appeared to be a
freeze. It went ok when I tried the dash search. Again, I am not sure
whether I imagined it. Currently, I am not in a position to use Disco
indefinitely. Thought I would update you guys.

[Bug 1811169] Re: Device firmware update does not detect AC power

2019-01-15 Thread Carroarmato0
Sorry for the delay in following up.

Based on the logs I've checked, fwupd has been behaving correctly, no
where in the various boot logs have I seen it crash or output anything
that would look like an issue.

However, I've been seeing many issues from Gnome Software.

[Bug 1811169] Re: Device firmware update does not detect AC power

2019-01-15 Thread Carroarmato0
Maybe a small detail which may have an impact: the laptop has SecureBoot
enabled by default.
During the installation, the Ubuntu installer made me go about setting a
password.

After installing Virtualbox I noticed that I had to do some extra steps
into signing the compiled kernel module.

I have followed the procedures correctly, but afterwards decided to turn
off Secure Boot just to not wanting to deal with the upgrade hassle in
the future.

I don't remember between which boots I disabled SecureBoot and when I
started the firmware update successfully.

I do remember the annoyance of the firmware upgrade processes beeping
every couple of seconds during the long procedure, in an open workspace
environment. Because it's usually a bad idea to terminate a firmware
flash right in the middle I had to run away with my "ticking timebomb".
But I divert, this has nothing to do with actually setting up the
firmware upgrade through Gnome-Software/fwupd.

[Bug 1811808] [NEW] Tearing and/or flickering when using Intel graphics

2019-01-15 Thread Josh Holland
Public bug reported:

When using Intel graphics on my hybrid Nvidia laptop, videos in Totem
have awful tearing/flickering which makes them essentially unwatchable.

With default X settings, I get tearing across the top of the screen (but
I also get very noticeable tearing in other applications); if I enable
TearFree (which eliminates tearing in Chrome), the tearing turns into
jagged black flickers which extend from the top of the screen right down
to near the bottom of the screen on some frames.

The flickers are visible in screenshots, so I have attached one.

Ubuntu version: Ubuntu 18.04.1
Totem version: 3.26.0-0ubuntu6.1

[Bug 1811668] Re: oem-config fails on Nvidia GPU machine on 18.04.1

2019-01-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
The log has those errors

gnome-shell[30907]: Failed to create backend: No resources
gnome-session[30496]: gnome-session-binary[30496]: WARNING: App
'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' exited with code 1
gnome-session-binary[30496]: WARNING: App 'org.gnome.Shell.desktop' exited with
code 1

Which seems the issue, before that nvidia-persistenced is started unsure
if that can be creating issues though...

Reassigning to gnome-shell since the issue is rather on that side than
on the installer one

Looking to that error upstream it's mentioned on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/261

bug #1769857 seems somewhat similar on launchpad
