  [ Lars Uebernickel ]
  * Create native windows for the scrollbar overlay and tail As of gtk
3.10, non-native windows are clipped to their widget's allocation.
The hijacked scrollbar is given a 0-width or height when horizontal)
allocation to make it disappear. Using native windows makes sure
that the overlay and tail are drawn regardless.

[Bug 1266687] [NEW] Super+Space can not be used for switching keyboard layouts

2014-01-07 Thread manager
Public bug reported:

Keyboard indicator does not respond to Super+Space, the default shortcut
for switching to "next source".

Release: 13.10
Package indicator-keyboard version 0.0.0+13.10.20131010.1-0ubuntu1

I have two layouts: English (Macintosh) and Hebrew. When pressing
Super+Space, I was expecting to switch back and forth between the two.
Super+Space is the default short cut.

When I press Super+Space, nothing happens.

When I change the setting for "Switch to previous source" as
Alt+Super+Space, I can switch layouts. This is not set by default,
AFAIK.

NOTES:

It is significantly more difficult for users to work out where to setup
keyboard options now. AFAIK, i-bus is responsible for layout switching,
though xkb is set for anything else? Though some of the old options are
availabe now under "Shortcuts" setting, ie Compose etc., not everything
is available. For example, remaping Caps-Lock etc.

Also, there's a duplication in setting switch to next source, which can
be mapped in Settings -> Text Entry, and Settings -> Keyboard ->
Shortcuts

[Bug 1266691] [NEW] Selecting the Apple Laptop keyboard layout

2014-01-07 Thread manager
Public bug reported:

I've noticed the existence of an "apple laptop" keyboard model for
xkeyboard-config, yet this is not available for selection from GUI.

Release 13.10
Package indicator-keyboard version keyboard-config

When I go to Settings- > Text Entry and I click on the "+" button, I
expect to see in the list of models an option for an "Apple Laptop".

This model is not available in the list.

NOTES

I'm assuming I would be the layout to use on my Macbook Pro, rather than
plain "English (Macintosh)" which is, AFAIK, the desktop aluminum
keyboard.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Hi, after installation of Ubuntu, i tried to connect to windows sharing network.
I clicked on windows networks in nautilus, it did not show me any domains.
After I enabled sharing of MY folder in MY computer (and after ubuntu
automatically installed "samba" package and one other package, Nautilus started
to show domain of network I tried to connect in "Windows networks".

It is a bug - it should warn about needed packages, or it should be able

[Bug 805154] Re: gdm-simple-slave crashed with SIGSEGV in _nss_compat_getpwnam_r()

2014-01-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
Hello Blümchen, or anyone else affected,

Accepted gdm into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/3.0.4-0ubuntu15.3
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1205055] Re: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view

I confirm that to date I have never been able to enlarge the width columns as I
need: I have files with long names in long paths. Please tell me how can I use
a system in which file manager shows me filenames (or folder name) like A... or
b!
I like very much Ubuntu and I find it with Unity very well, but I think that,
with very much disappointment, If it will not change I will use another SO.
Please someone can tell something of reassuring?

[Bug 1265610] Re: [patch] Please display clock in screen lock

2014-01-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for the work!

I'm not opposed to have the feature in principle, I'm unsure about the UI
- the clock is centered, would it be better in the top right (closer from what
the desktop is doing)?
- on a dual monitor, it's displayed on both screens (where one has the
bg/dialog and the other one is all empty otherwise)
- it's orthogonal but we were speaking about making the lock screen closer from
the unity-greeter for the LTS

[Bug 1021375] Re: Nautilus says the USB stick is read only when it is not

2014-01-07 Thread d0m
I to have the same problem!
I have tried 2 diferent USB sticks & nothing can be saved to them. Either by
drag & drop or saving from a text editor (JuffEd & Gedit) or even OpenOfice.
One of the USB sticks did let me moove a file when I firs got it but it stoped
after I plged it into my Android.
I can open the USB sticks in "Windows!" & chaing the permissions.
But I am completly locked out with Ubuntu.
Is pluging the USB sticks into other OS's leaving a cooky that Ubuntu is
objecting to?
Have fun.

[Bug 1215098] Re: iPhone with iOS 7 does not work on Ubuntu

2014-01-07 Thread mokalovesoulmate
@iuridiniz, I just installed your package and I can confirm it is
*partially* working.

- I can access my iOS 7 device via Files (nautilus), and do operations such as
copying photos. I did not try to read/write other files
- Opening photos via Shotwell is working.
- Rhythmbox is not working -- Rhythmbox only detects there is a device but not
displaying songs. Is this Rhythmbox or libimobiledevice problem?

Thanks for the fix!

FYI
Device: iPod Touch 5th gen iOS 7.0.4
Computer: Ubuntu 13.10 64bit.

is that intentional, or a bug? As it stands, it's causing some wakeups
that seem unnecessary and this is keeping the system from deep C state
idle, which is wasting power.

[Bug 1234453] Re: Terminal freezes during long-running applications

2014-01-07 Thread Vladimir Rutsky
I observed following behavior that may be related to this bug report in
fresh installation of Ubuntu 13.10.

gnome-terminal, pidgin, nautilus (and probably most of Gnome
applications) randomly freezes when I typing text in them: they became
unresponsive (not redrawing themselfs) and after few seconds the may or
may not became grayed out. After few seconds they "unfreeze" and works
as if they never freezed (all entered text appears in application).

This behaviour in gnome-terminal looks very close to described in this
bug report.

[Bug 1205055] Re: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view

2014-01-07 Thread floid
You may also want to try installing XFCE's Thunar which appears to have
similar scrollbar behavior to old Nautilus. This will probably pull in
a large bunch of XFCE dependencies but if you have the disk space that
should be okay; then just add it to your dock as an alternative file
browser.

(If there's a legacy Nautilus package that can co-exist with 3.x, I
wouldn't mind one myself - sometimes I want the instant search, other
times I miss that tree-browsing approach in list view.)

[Bug 1205055] Re: Impossible to change column width of Nautilus in list view

2014-01-07 Thread floid
Hmm. I just experimented with your problem here and notice that if the
window is not wide enough in list view, you cannot stretch the contents
of the Name field past the

Questions:
Do you get the double arrow "<->" cursor when you hover over the | divider
between the "Name" and Size" fields?
If you get the double arrow, Can you then hold the left button and drag to the
left to make the "Name" field *smaller*?
...and then does dragging it back to the right work until the contents of the
"Modified" column hits the right side of the window?

I just checked and see that e.g. Nautilus 2.32 from GNOME 2.x would
allow stretching the "Name" column to the right and beyond, creating a
horizontal scrollbar. It appears that horizontal scrollbars are gone
from Nautilus/"Files" 3.8.2. Maybe that is what you're missing? If so
that appears to have been another GNOME simplification (see also the
enforced "spatial Nautilus" controversy of a decade ago or the We've
Decided You Must Have a Clock And It Must Be Centered In Your Top Panel
of GNOME 3).

Possible workarounds:
* You can 'emulate' the horizontal scrollbar behavior clumsily by dragging the
window around and stretching it wider than the screen (drag it so left edge
hangs off left edge of screen, then widen to right, then drag the whole window
back and forth.

* For long paths, you can turn off the "Location" column under "Visible
Columns" in the "v" dropdown menu, and have something close to "every
other operating system"'s behavior where the current path is just shown
in the navigation bar for the window.

I agree that more of a 'split line' view for search results would be
great, so the full path could show below the items returned, or
developers could bring back the 'caret'/'indented' sort of expanding
tree view naturally indicating the parent directories - which I miss
greatly when not searching, too. (I'm guessing the old code for that
'broke' at some point during the Nautilus rewrite or it would not have
gone away.) And I agree that it was kind of ridiculous to get rid of
horizontal scrolling entirely, especially now that mouse wheels with
left/right tilt are common, but I'm guessing they conflicted visually
with the "sticky note" that has replaced the status bar to see the size
and item count for the selected item. Which is sort of redundant in
list view where "Size" is a column by default.

[Sadly my report of the "Modified" column still regularly becoming dead
to clicks is still a problem for me.]

[Bug 1266961] [NEW] nautilus: after scrolling in window, files that weren't visible show no rename label

2014-01-07 Thread Doug McMahon
Public bug reported:

Maybe better to provide a vid but will try to describe
Tested on a new install of todays image.

Test case:
Open a well populated window in home folder where more than 50% of files aren't
visible (resize nautilus if needed
Click on any visible window > rename, should be as normal

Then scroll down to bottom, try to rename some of the newly exposed files
At least here most if not all of those files, when rename is used, will have
their name disappear with no visible rename label

If so clicking away from where the rename box would be returns current name
(typing in will effect a rename though nothing is visible untill done

[Bug 1266964] [NEW] Rhythmbox 3.0 Can't Edit Recently Added Playlist (No Context Menu)

2014-01-07 Thread OzzyFrank
Public bug reported:

Hi. In Ubuntu 13.10 I upgraded RB to version 3.0 via the fossfreedom
PPA. Previously, when I right-clicked the "Recently Added" auto-
playlist, a context menu would appear, from which I could choose "Edit",
with which I could then adjust the time period that the playlist
monitored for new music. Now I can't do that, as no context menu appears
at all when right-clicking the playlist. Actually there is no context
menu for clicking any playlist, and even when hiding all the playlists
and right-clicking the blank area beneath the "Playlists" heading (which
before would give me options like creating a new playlist). I've looked
for ways around this, but no go, so assume it's a bug I needed to
report. Cheers.

2014-01-07 Thread Erick Brunzell
This also effects nautilus 3.10.1 from the GNOME 3 PPA. I noticed it
trying to rename files such as .gconf and .config to test fresh
profiles.
