[Bug 930894] [NEW] rhythmbox can't read embedded cover art in ogg files
Public bug reported: 1) I use ubuntu 11.10 64 bits 2) I use rhythmbox 2.90.1~20110908-0ubuntu1.2 3) I have some ogg files with embedded cover art. [Bug 524967] Re: Screen brightness doesn't work on Vaio Y
Update on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) Hi there, just a quick update on screen brightness issue status, for the Vaio Y series. The problem seems related to gnome-power-manager & intel 915 driver... Kamal Mostafa has released a path that should be already present in Ubuntu 11.10. I don't know if this due to the Kamal patch (but I think so), but now it is possible to control our (sony Y) brightness through: /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness Anyway, the gnome-power-manager links to /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ in order to read/set backlight. Unfortunately, this control is completely void and does not produce any effect. A suggested workaround is to start linux with boot parameter: acpi_backlight=vendor This produce the desired effect: /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/ disappears, BUT the sony_laptop module, as does not found acpi support to brightness, takes in care brightness management creating its own sony brightness device... and yes, gnome-power-manager prefers it than our beloved intel_backlight. Unfortunately, we NEED sony_laptop module, because takes care of the fn keys bindings. So, two ways are available: 1) modify and recompile sony_laptop module in order to ignore brightness control + acpi_backlight=vendor on boot 2) The old and still pretty good acpi event management through custom scripts Solution 2 is easier and less intrusive, so I have updated the brightness scripts, in order to adopt the new brightness control interface and sync with the "void" acpi_video0 control when pressing brightness up and down keys. The install script is now a little smarter, doing checks in order to prevent installation where not needed. I leave here a copy of the patch, hoping could be of help Cheers Francesco ** Attachment added: "sonyY_patch3.tar.gz" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/524967/+attachment/2733058/+files/sonyY_patch3.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524967 Title: Screen brightness doesn't work on Vaio Y To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/524967/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 930944] [NEW] Off-by-one error in count of copied files
Public bug reported: When copying files, the "x of y" display at the bottom shows x-1 instead of x. In other words, when copying three files, it will count from "0 of 3" to "2 of 3" instead of "1 of 3" to "3 of 3". It is possible that this only happens on copies to SMB-mounted drives - that is the only situation where I've been able to make it go slow enough to see. [Bug 304345] Re: File chooser dialog doesn't provide network access
I also face this issue. I would expect the file chooser dialog to allow me to access network bookmarks (including mounting them if they are not mounted already). It's very annoying when you want to save a file on a network share from Firefox or Thunderbird : you have to save it locally, then transfer it with nautilus. I found the following workarounds : - mount permanently the network locations in /etc/fstab : it works, but is not adapted to all situations. In my case, the server that hosts the network share is a standard PC, not a 24/7 server. So, if this PC is not up at startup time, the share is not mounted - add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs directory, as suggested by smonff : it appears in the file chooser, but is empty if the share is not mounted. So you have to mount it before - add a bookmark for ~/.gvfs AND install/configure the package gigolo : this software can automatically mount network shares. If you declare it as a startup application, it will try to connect every minute. See http://www.borpin.co.uk/2011/03/29/map-network-drive-in-ubuntu-again/ . It's still a workaround but it's the best I found so far. In any case, it would be much much easier to be able to open/save directly in a network bookmark. [Bug 930799] Re: segmentation fault while importing photos from F-Spot
Alex, There are currently two known problems with the F-Spot import: * Dealing with issues in the F-Spot database itself: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4487 * A memory usage issue (although this seems to affect all imports, not jut F-Spot): http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4498 The first one is being resolved as part of a re-factoring of the F-Spot import code. A patch has been provided and I'm hoping that it will make its way to trunk in the next few days. The second one is being looked at too. To validate whether you are hitting the memory issue, can you check how much memory Shotwell uses when doing the import please? [Bug 912379] Re: lots of gtk errors in non "ubuntu" sessions
*Please do not upload it to 'oneiric-update'!* Simply have a look to the attachment. You can see the desktop of a friend with a Cairo-Dock session: it's just ugly with this nautilus' top menu bar! And this problem is also available with all other non-'Ubuntu' session... (Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, XFCE etc. if nautilus is used) With this new version, the bug #826771 has to be re-opened (and the importance was set as 'High'!) I understand that the previous workaround was a bit ugly but this top menu bar too is also ugly! (it's maybe worst to have a annoying menu (which is just very ugly on the desktop) than these warning messages!). I also understand that this patch has been removed on Precise but it's not for the same reason (it's simply because a modification has been made on gtk-3.0 and this patch is now useless with this new version of gtk-3.0). And what about the solution proposed by Dmitry ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-foundations/+bug/826771/comments/40 - insert menu to proxy only on "good" sessions, like that) or backport the modification made on gtk-3.0? I'm sorry but I have to remove this 'verification-done' tag. [Bug 877279] Re: EOG - Image viewer hangs system when opening large image file
I c an confirm this bug. Just tried to open a 1.6MB JPG image file using eog. It shows "Opening image ..." and the beginning bit of the progress bar and then freezes. My system monitor also freezes and the only thing that still works is the mouse pointer, although it's slower than normal. All window buttons, menus, desktop etc. are unresponsive to mouse interaction. Keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-Alt-F1, Ctrl-Alt-Backspace, Ctrl- Alt-Delete etc.) don't work. This is not the first time this has happened to me. It has affected my office PC (Dell Optiplex 755) as well as my home PC (Dell Inspiron 530), both running Ubuntu 11.10 32bit, and already surfaced when I was still using Ubuntu 11.04. It seems to affect eog only as gimp and shotwell don't have this problem. [Bug 931230] [NEW] Brasero display problems and crashes
Public bug reported: I'm running gnome-session-fallback, if that matters. I'm trying to rip a DVD. Launching brasero from a terminal with gdb... Click on "Disc copy". "Copy CD/DVD" window appears, with "Select disc to copy" pulldown blank gray, and "Select a disc to write to" pulldown says "New disc...". Under "Select disc to copy", when I press and hold button1 on the pulldown, I can see the disc title (white on orange, which I believe is "highlighted") directly under the pointer, but when I release, it goes back to blank gray. I do believe that the disc has been selected, but it is not correctly displayed. [Problem 1] When I press in the pulldown for "Select a disc to write to" and select "Image file...", I am unable to click on "Properties" in order to change the file name. This is a regression from earlier versions of Brasero with which I have worked. [Problem 2] At this point, I am still unable to select "Create Image". Perhaps the disc has not actually been selected?
