[Bug 175233] Re: Evolution hangs with "Formatting Message" after several hours

2010-02-14 Thread Oded Arbel
Regarding my previous comment - here is an interesting behavior:
1. I have an OWA account configured and enabled.
2. I get the "formatting message" problem on an IMAP account: I select a
message and the message preview stays blank with a "Formatting message"
progress notification that can't be cancelled, but if I open a message viewer
on that message it works fine - all as documented in this bug.
3. I open the preferences dialog and disable the OWA account.

After I do step 3, the "Formatting message" progress immediately
completes and I get to view my message in the preview panel.

[Bug 521647] Re: nautilus crash when calling sftp or ssh adress

2010-02-14 Thread Bruno Girin
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug? In
particular, at what point does Nautilus crash: when you are trying to connect
to the server or once you are already connected?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

[Bug 432598] Re: Do not show suspend/hiberate related UI if suspend is disabled in polkit

2010-02-14 Thread Cédric Dufour
On Lucid, it would seem the /etc/polkit-1/* folders are not used.

Puting a power.conf file:

[Disable suspend]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.devicekit.power.suspend
ResultActive=no
ResultAny=no

[Disable hibernate]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.devicekit.power.hibernate
ResultActive=no
ResultAny=no

[Disable shutdown]
Identity=unix-user:*
Action=org.freedesktop.consolekit.system.stop
ResultActive=no
ResultAny=no

In:
 - /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d
 - /etc/polkit-1/localauthority.conf.d

Does NOT affect the applied policy (cf. pkcheck and Gnome shutdown
dialog)

Modifying the /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/* files DOES lead to the
expected results (cf. pkcheck and Gnome shutdown dialog)

Am I:
 - missing something (like reloading a daemon somewhere)
 - or is this a bug; a sysadmin would expect his custom settings to be in
/etc/polkit-1 and be honored (and not be erased by some package update) ?

Sorry for being expressive, but this bug is annoying as the hell

[Bug 517580] Re: Ekiga don't work behind NAT in Karmic

I have test this problem in CentOS 5.3 - Ekiga 2.0.2

with the same result:

LOCAL (e.g. 5030) => no audio (RTP) transfer possible.

Thats mean:

NOBOBY behind NAT can use Ekiga - this is old and unfortunately still

You have been subscribed to a public security bug:

I am running Ubuntu 9.10. After a routine update, the system asked for a
restart; after which it popped up a warning: INSTALL PROBLEM: "the
configuration defaults for the GNOME Power Manager have not been installed
correctly. Please contact your computer administrator." From then many things
have changed. My Ubuntu is not starting at all, so there's little I can do
dirctly except from live-cd, and my disk is far too filled to be reinstalled.
Can someone please help me with sorting out this problem?

[Bug 521707] [NEW] Selecting certain words containing the letter f duplicates the letter

2010-02-14 Thread Pedro Dias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS
Package version: evince 2.22.2-0ubuntu2

Steps to reproduce the problem:

  1. Open the PDF document (used
"http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/JavaEETutorial.pdf";);
  2. Scroll to a page containing one of the following words: "briefly",
"Simplified", "Unified", "benefit", "file";
  3. Select the word with the mouse;

What was expected to happen:

  The word should have been selected and displayed correctly.

What happened instead:

  The word was selected but displayed with the letter f duplicated. By
duplicated I mean:
 - the word "file" turns to "ffle" when selected;
 - the word "briefly" turns to "brieffly" when selected;
 - the word "Simplified" turns to "Simpliffed" when selected;
 - the word "Unified" turns to "Uniffed" when selected;
 - the word "benefit" turns to "benefft" when selected.

  However, the words "verifier" and "following" are correctly displayed
when selected.

Other observations:

  1. Selecting the words and then copying and pasting them into a text editor
works correctly;
  2. Using "Edit->find..." to select the words works correctly.

[Bug 496714] Re: Randomly, gnome-panel doesn't complete and freezes after login (karmic)

2010-02-14 Thread Rafael Ávila Coya
I can't do the backtrace because gnome-panel is an app that starts
automatically when I log in. In the instructions in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace they tell how to do it
a) starting the app
and
b) generating the bug for already running programms
I would kill gnome-panel and then follow the instructions in a), but the
problem is that when I kill gnome-panel, it restarts inmediatly and
automaticaly, so no way for a)
And it's non-sense to use the instructions for b), because the bug, when it
happens, it happens before you can do what it says in b).
My question is: how can I kill gnome-panel (from tty1 for example) and avoid it
to automaticaly restart again. If I could do that, then I could follow the
instructions in a), that means, start gnome-panel from gdb and backtrace the
bug.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 521776] [NEW] Desktop icons for newly created files overlap

2010-02-14 Thread Yonatan Amir

[Bug 151145] Re: Evince print fails with Postscript driver

2010-02-14 Thread Mike McNally
Hate to be a bug necromancer, but this bug describes exactly a problem
I've had and continue to have in Karmic. Printing PDF files from
"evince" and even Adobe's own Acrobat often results in exactly the same
failure: an error printout with an "Operand Error" or "Configuration
Error". The error message itself is of no diagnostic help to me.

The exact same PDF file prints fine from a Windows 7 machine via Acrobat
Reader.

[Bug 495671] Re: "No login notifications" should imply "no login indicators"

2010-02-14 Thread ConsciousUser
I had an interesting experience with this bug yesterday and
feel it is relevant to mention. A friend once tried to talk to
me via Empathy, but I wasn't at the computer at the time
and didn't return before he eventually went offline. I then
turned off the computer in a rush without verifying the
indicator-applet, effectively losing his message.

(the last part is at least what I think it happened, judging
by the message timestamp)

When I was using the computer again later, I got bitten
by the bug: I clicked on the applet because of a new
Gwibber entry and was fooled by an entry that was there
just because this same friend had just logged in. So
I clicked on the indicator.

Now comes the funny part: because of Empathy logging,
when I opened the conversation window from the
indicator, the last message was his "hello" from
BEFORE, and thus the fooling was complete. The friend
promptly received a "hello" from me as a reply from a
message he had sent hours before. :)

I only understood what happened when I actually looked
at the message timestamp.

So, long story short: this bug and Empathy logging is a
nasty combination.

[Bug 521792] [NEW] Hibernate option shown when not possible due to kernel update

2010-02-14 Thread Pobice
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-session

The Hibernation option still shows when hibernation is not possible due
to kernel update.

When selected the screen locks as if it is going to hibernate and then
nothing happens.

Looking in /var/log/pm-suspend.log I get:
Initial commandline parameters:
Sun Feb 14 17:08:36 GMT 2010: Running hooks for hibernate.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/000record hibernate hibernate: kernel update inhibits
hibernate (/var/run/do-not-hibernate present)
Returned exit code 1.
Sun Feb 14 17:08:36 GMT 2010: Inhibit found, will not perform hibernate

Would it be possible to either hide the hibernate option or display a
warning to the user the hibernation is not available if /var/run/do-not-
hibernate exists?

2010-02-14 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.  I have classified this
bug as a bug in gnome-system-tools.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 521795] [NEW] DBus error - Service Unknown

2010-02-14 Thread Mark Preston
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I plugged in my camera to a USB 2.0 port. Powering up the camera brought
a warning window, which reads:

I received a small window, with the following words:

Could not display "gphoto2://[usb:001,014]/".

Error DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name:1.87 was not provided by
any .service files
Please select another viewer and try again.

Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

= end of error message words ===

libgphoto2-2 (? this is probably correct - Syn. Pkg. Mgr. has no gphoto,
it does have libghooto2-2)

Usually powering up the camera opens a window asking to copy the
contents of the SD memory card into F-Spot.

[Bug 521794] [NEW] Tilted text in PDF document causes CUSP error

2010-02-14 Thread Mike
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Converting this simple PostScript program to PDF causes CUPS to hang up
when an attempt is made to print the PDF fron Evince.

%!PS-Adobe-3.0
%%BeginProlog

/H {/Helvetica findfont exch scalefont setfont} def
% ---  usage: (string) pointsize rotation x y RA

/RA{gsave translate rotate H 0 0 moveto show grestore newpath} def
% --
%%EndProlog

 (String) 10 40 150 750 RA
showpage

%%EOF

Procedure:
- View PostScript file with Evince: no problems found
 - Call Printout facility, then printout: CUPS prints out the PostScript
file without error.
 - convert the PS file to PDF: ps2pdf -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress
  ; no errors reported
 - View with Evince ; The word String is visible, tilted at
40 degrees
 - Call Print facility then Print Preview; -- nothing found on the monitor
- Call Print facility, then printout; CUPS hangs up

NotaBene: Setting the rotation to 0 degrees in place of 40 DOES allow the PDF
document
to be printed out. But then the text is horizontal and not tilted at 40 degrees.

System info: Linux Ubuntu 7.10 "Gutsy", Evince 2.20.0,
   hp 2100M Laser Jet Printer with dual personality
(PostScript/ hpgl)
Can anybody tell me what is wrong and if there is a bug fix?
Thanks in advance,
Mike Perry

[Bug 393386] Re: I can't add a new user with the same name of one that has been deleted usind users-admin

2010-02-14 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
The terminal problem comes from the fact that you're using 'useradd',
while normal method on Debian systems is to use 'adduser'.

Though the real issue with users-admin is that in Jaunty we didn't
remove user account, and failed silently when the home directory for a
new user was already present. Those issues are fixed in Lucid, since we
ask to remove home directory, and don't fail if it already exists.
Thanks for reporting - you may want to test Lucid and check that this
behavior works. Don't hope for a backport of the fix to Jaunty, though,
as it required far too many changes.
