[Bug 504645] [NEW] [Ubuntu 9.10] Brasero won't accept FLAC files for audio disc project

2010-01-08 Thread Chris Wagner
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Steps to reproduce:
  1) Launch 'brasero'
  2) Create a new audio project
  3) Attempt to drag a FLAC file into the project from nautilus

After following those steps, I am presented with a dialog that says the
following in larger bold text:
"02 - Roll with It.flac" could not be opened.
And it says the following below that in regular text:
"02 - Roll with It.flac" is not suitable for audio or video media.

Totem seems to play the file just fine. And I seem to have several
FLAC-related gstreamer things installed:
  ch...@dell-desktop:~$ gst-inspect-0.10 | grep flac
  (gst-inspect-0.10:12694): GLib-WARNING **: g_set_prgname() called multiple
times
  typefindfunctions: audio/x-flac: flac
  typefindfunctions: application/x-id3v1: tta, flac, ogg, mpga, mp1, mp2, mp3
  typefindfunctions: application/x-id3v2: tta, flac, ogg, mpga, mp1, mp2, mp3
  flac: flactag: FLAC tagger
  flac: flacdec: FLAC audio decoder
  flac: flacenc: FLAC audio encoder
ffmpeg: ffmux_flac: FFmpeg raw FLAC muxer
ffmpeg: ffdec_flac: FFmpeg FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) decoder

...

Upon further investigation, actually, it seems that this is only a
problem with a certain FLAC-encoded album that I have. But why should
it work under Totem but not Brasero? I'll attach a culprit file.

[Bug 447888] Re: restore file not accepted unless it's moved to home directory

2010-01-08 Thread zig59
@Pedro

In my case evolution would NOT restore from /home//Backups
/evolution-backup.tar.gz

It would only restore when I moved the backup file directly into the
home directory.

i.e. /home//evolution-backup.tar.gz

Cheers

[Bug 292465] Re: "Keep Aligned" right click menu option should not allow desktop icon overlap

2010-01-08 Thread knownuthin
Ubuntu 9.10

May not be related to this bug however it is irritating that the setting
"Keep Aligned" if unchecked by the user remains that way only during the
current session. If the computer is turned off, at next startup the
"Keep Aligned" setting is once again checked. I personally do not want
all my icons aligned to some specific grid. However it appears there is
a bug that prevents the "Keep Aligned" setting from retaining the choice
set by the user.

[Bug 269441] Re: Trash always full

2010-01-08 Thread no...@maxiware.co.za
I'm having this issue in 9.10. To replicate:

- Insert usb disk
- Delete files
- Unmount
- Empty trash

It will delete local files but seems to keep a record of the files on
the usb disk that weren't yet deleted, so never shows an "empty trash"
icon.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2010-01-08 Thread David N. Welton
As laptop resolutions increase (I just got a new dell that's 1900x1200),
this problem is only going to get worse, especially working with fiddly
trackpads that aren't as precise as mice.

I don't really care about changing the entire theme - the default one is
nice - I just want a slightly larger border or some other mechanism that
makes click/drag resizing work better.

[Bug 504661] [NEW] ABNT keyboard for Portuguese speakers CAN NOT be easily configured with the latest version of Ubuntu.

2010-01-08 Thread Ravi Gehlot
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

It is impossible to get ABNT to work with ANY version of Ubuntu without
messing with /etc/xorg.conf.

Today all my projects in Eclipse messed up because I was trying to fix
the accentuation and I changed the charset which in turn replaced all
accents to some weird character.

If you have English set up and you want to type Portuguese accents then
you need ABNT with US keboard settings.

2010-01-08 Thread ktp
I'm pretty sure that comment 177 will help most of you all. This bug is
probably a duplicate of #381300
See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/381300 for more
information.

Try to set your I/O scheduler to noop and see if transfer rates stay constant.
To do this follow these steps:

sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
search for the line begining with #kopt and add "elevator=noop" without the
quotes to the end of the line
save & exit
sudo update-grub
reboot

HTH, ktp.

I will confirm this on 9.10 64bit as that is what the laptop in question
currently has installed, that said, if you would like me to confirm this
on 9.10 32bit or 9.04 32/64bit Id be happy to do so, is the output of
env enough from the failing 9.10 laptop.

[Bug 504719] [NEW] size of symbols on GNOME panel inappropriate

2010-01-08 Thread Christian Lehmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 9.10, GNOME (2.28?)
The following is not a technical bug, but three features whose design is
inappropriate. The issue is, thus, userfriendlyness. In the first two cases,
the number of symbols that fit on the panel is at stake.

1) In the GNOME panel, symbols are sized automatically by an algorithm
that looks whether the shortest dimension X of the panel is width or
height, accordingly fixes the width or the height of each symbol to the
same value as X and finally calculates the other dimension Y of each
symbol in proportion to X. The extension Y of each synbol then, of
course, determines how many symbols fit on the panel.

This has the following consequence: Assume the panel is vertically
arranged. Then the wider I size the panel, the higher become the
symbols. The consequence is, of course, that the wider I size the panel,
the fewer symbols fit on it. This is counterproductive. The solution
seems to be: Allow the user to fix an upper value for symbol size
(either X or Y, if the proportion calculus is to be maintained). Or else
fix such an upper value yourself.

2) The labels of the menu categories ('Anwendungen', 'Orte', 'System' in
my German version) are arranged vertically if the panel is arranged
vertically. Accordingly they occupy a large portion of the panel. They
do not even go into the horizontal dimension if I set the panel width to
256 pixels. The solution appears to be: Leave these words in the
horizontal dimension, and insert a hyphen break in them in case the
panel is not wide enough.

3) The more my panel is occupied by symbols, the harder it becomes to
find a spot on the panel where to click if one wants to edit properties
of the panel itself. With panel width of 256 pixels (admittedly, an
unreasonable value), no such spot is left at all. Thus, I can never
again resize my panel to a different value. The solution for the latter
problem appears to be: Allow the user to shift the panel size by cursor
dragging (as under MS Windows). However, more in general it ought to be
clearer where on the panel one may click in order to access panel
properties.

[Bug 479433] Re: brasero crashed with SIGSEGV in g_file_get_path()

2010-01-08 Thread Josip Bakić
I apologize for not responding, I was busy at the time you asked, and
later I completely forgot.

Anyways, I've burned some DVDs in the meantime and this did not happen
again. It hasn't crashed again. Though, brasero often acts strange after
burning, and I'm developing a habit of restarting it after each burn.
Can't remember the exact details of the odd behaviour. Not sure if this
bug holds any relevance here after this, I'll reopen it just to be sure
this reaches you.

Thank you!

I can confirm this bug, on a fresh Karmic installation (AMD64).
No non-pdf printing problems detected; also, okular and acroread prints pdfs
fine.
I tried three different networked printer, with the same result:
reports that job is started and completed, but no paper appears. I have
HP printers and HPLIP reports the same thing (i.e., no problems).

[Bug 504612] Re: Nautilus freezes when expanding large trees in tree view

2010-01-08 Thread The Bright Side
I should note that while trying to reproduce this bug with gdb, I had
some issues. At the first attempt, gdb wouldn't accept CTRL-C, and when
I finally got its command prompt back, I couldn't enter anything there.
I tried a couple more times to reproduce the bug, and at one point, it
was fixed: Nautilus opened the folder without any problems. I had to
reboot my PC to get Nautilus to freeze again. Here's the backtrace:

[Bug 504742] [NEW] arrangement of menue labels on GNOME panel inappropriate

2010-01-08 Thread Christian Lehmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 9.10, GNOME (2.28?)
The following is not a technical bug, but a feature whose design is
inappropriate. The issue is, thus, userfriendliness.

The labels of the menu categories ('Anwendungen', 'Orte', 'System' in my
German version) are arranged vertically if the panel is arranged
vertically. Accordingly they occupy a large portion of the panel. They
do not even go into the horizontal dimension if I set the panel width to
256 pixels. The solution appears to be: Leave these words in the
horizontal dimension, and insert a hyphen break in them in case the
panel is not wide enough.

[Bug 504741] [NEW] size of symbols on GNOME panel inappropriate

2010-01-08 Thread Christian Lehmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 9.10, GNOME (2.28?)
The following is not a technical bug, but a feature whose design is
inappropriate. The issue is, thus, userfriendliness.

In the GNOME panel, symbols are sized automatically by an algorithm that
looks whether the shortest dimension X of the panel is width or height,
accordingly fixes the width or the height of each symbol to the same
value as X and finally calculates the other dimension Y of each symbol
in proportion to X. The extension Y of each synbol then, of course,
determines how many symbols fit on the panel.

[Bug 504744] [NEW] no free space on GNOME panel available

2010-01-08 Thread Christian Lehmann
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

Ubuntu 9.10, GNOME (2.28?)
The following is not a technical bug, but a features whose design is
inappropriate. The issue is, thus, userfriendliness.

The more my panel is occupied by symbols, the harder it becomes to find
a spot on the panel where to click if one wants to edit properties of
the panel itself. Depending on the number of symbols and width of the
panel, no such spot is left at all, so I have no possibility of changing
panel properties. As for panel size, the solution appears to be: Allow
the user to shift the panel size by cursor dragging (as under MS
Windows). However, more in general it ought to be clearer where on the
panel one may click in order to access panel properties. This might
presuppose that symbol areas have visible margins.

Re: [Bug 504179] Re: Nautilus is unresponsive when started

Hi,

Unfortunately I have had to uninstall Ubuntu and revert to Windows on
my laptop. It is a huge
disappointment to me and not really down to this issue at all, it is
much more to do with
Vmware and mouse support along with some basic X server instability. I
look forward to trying
Ubuntu in the near future again, when I have enough time to dedicate
to figuring out its
quirks.

Thanks for the fast response,

[Bug 500958] [NEW] After "Karmic" kernel updates, the panels are unresponsive.

2010-01-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.5

Last week, after receiving a kernel update (2.6.31-16-generic-pae), the
panels became unresponsive. After doing a terminal un-install of gdm,
panels, and desktop and re-installing them a fix was not acquired. Upon
restarting the computer in the A.M., the panels returned in gnome and
were responsive as always.

This afternoon, I received a new kernel update to 2.6.31-17-generic-
pae, and seemingly, everything was working with the panels and
eventually I shut down. Upon restarting the computer, and gnome opening,
the panels were white initially, with no icons and eventually after 10
to 20 minutes the icons appeared, but remained unresponsive; (just as in
the previous kernel update). I tried the un-installing and re-installing
as before to no avail.

In both instances I had to use Ctrl > Alt > Delete and received
notifications "panel is unresponsive" and did I want to continue with
the "dirty shut down"; as the panels were still running.

My installation of Karmic was via live CD ~ Oct 30, and I have had no
other noticeable problems.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

Public bug reported:

after deluser and adduser without deleting home dir and then login empathy asks
some gnome keyring password and my password is not for it and this dialog
appears again and again.
one bug is that extra dialog appears and other bug is that i cannot remove this
dialog, there are 2 buttons, one is deny. another bug is what is said in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/502768 : "I have no idea
what to do." i also do not know. this is bug because OS should provide
information. i have searched in web but have not found much about this. i have
found that gnome keyring uses user's password by default, but it has not
worked, and i have found that gnome-keyring is deprecated.
