The bug is still there. Even after changing the proxy name for HTTP, the
old proxy name is used for HTTPS if the "use same proxy..." check box is
checked. I used Galeon 2.0.6 to verify it (on Ubuntu 8.10 - upgraded
today).

$ uname -a
Linux lap432 2.6.27-9-generic #1 SMP Thu Nov 20 21:57:00 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Pedro,

Thank you much!  I hope the attached file proves useful.

First, I swapped out the rhythmbox-dbg package for the rhythmbox-dbgsym
package . . .  That may have changed the environment significantly.  For
one thing, the program now produces apport reports and automatically
uploads them.  So, perhaps this is now an invalid stream after all.

BTW, the first time I followed the backtrace instructions,
, I got to step 3 under the
"Generation" header and pressed Ctrl-C as instructed and gdb exited
abruptly.  Since that didn't seem right, I started again and ignored
step 3.  The attached file is from the second attempt.

Also, since apport is now sending (already sent two lengthy reports)
notifications when rhythmbox crashes occur, that may be the better way
to track the issue . . .  Not really sure.

Thanks to both Pedro and Chris for helping me to collect info that will
hopefully improve Ubuntu!!!

Actually, the package was tested by many and reported to work; it is
true that without the patch the bug is not here, however notice the
patch is not intended to solve this bug, but another one (having to do
with tearing), so this is not strange.

Are you sure you didn't someway take the old version of the patch (from
2.20.1.1-1ubuntu2 or from the web)?

Tried /tmp/evil.txt with version 2.24.2-0ubuntu1, it will not open the
attachment by default, which is good, but if one tries to visualise the
file, it will choke for a while due to the RAM requirements. Once
digested, evolution won't crash but will be slow due to the swapping.

Hi,

I don't have the file here right now, but it is a valid postscript file 
that Gimp (and ghostview) are able to open.
The problem doesn't occur only for this file, it occurs for all 
postscript files on that computer.

First, please try reinstalling g-p-m.

Second, please run the command "gnome-power-bugreport.sh >
Desktop/g-p-m_info", and attach (don't paste) the resulting file
'g-p-m_info' into this bug report.

Third, please run the following two commands, then attach the file "g-p-m.log" 
to this bug report. This might show where it hangs.
killall gnome-power-manager
gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose &> g-p-m.log

Fourth, let's make sure HAL isn't involved: Try the following command (THIS 
SHOULD REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM) and tell us what happens :

Apologies to you, this turned out not to be a bug but config settings problem 
within the system sound settings. I selected the ALSA mixer and now all works. 
Altho I'm still unsure as to why the other sound apps worked but rythmbox 
didnt...

If after winning one tries to close (using the x on the top-right) the high 
score dialog box, the last played piece comes back on the board, and the high 
score dialog box comes back, and this is then the result of pressing the x 
again or selecting new game.  Great game anyway! Just an odd bug!
What I'd expect to happen?  I guess a return to the completed game board so one 
could see the job well done, and ponder whether to play again...?

If the disk needs to be unmounted for technical reasons, then that
cannot be avoided, but it should be remounted when the operation is done
or aborted.

I and many duplicates can confirm this.

Put in a DVD and click "Copy" in nautilus. The medium gets unmounted (that is 
correct). But if I click "Cancel" the medium must be mounted again, which 
doesn't happen. Also after creating an .iso it does not get mounted again. 
Unsure if this is an issue with hal also.

I see the exact same problem as Bob does. I first thougt it was because 
I had set the virtual property in my xorg.conf, but If Bob has found a 
solution to the problem I am all ears.
How did you remove the 90_upstream_correctly_update.patch Bob? I have 
tried to make an apt-get source xournal in order to get the ubuntu 
source code, but I didn't get the patches and the problem is still 
present if just compiling the source code.

I can also confirm the same problem here. Im running Hardy on Dell E1505
with Intel915 Graphics card. I manually suspend my computer (closing the
lid does not do anything for me) and it seems to suspend successfully,
but when I press the power button to wake it up, it pops up this error
message

Your computer failed to suspend.
 Check the help file for common
 problems.

Sorry I cant give any suggestions, just another faithful ubuntu user

with Rhythmbox. But I found that if the first 27 characters of several
song filenames (excluding extension) are the same, Rhythmbox sometimes
pauses the transfer and asks if you want to overwrite the first one with
the second. No matter whether you say yes or no, one of the two songs is
not transferred.

Expected outcome:
Rhythmbox renames the file, as this has no effect on iPods, and transfers it.

this is intrepid amd64 on a asrock conroe 1333dvi/h. I have tested the
energy save mode in the power settings. The machine switch off the
screen, the board gone a complete crash with lost of bios fan control
and none working reset button. The power must be switched off at the psu
to retire the system. Looks like a big crash, after reboot all
partitions are recovering their filesystems. Running jobs will be killed
by this behaviour, all work is lost.

Confirmed the same behaviour here, 8.10, flash-nonfree, epiphany-gecko.
Works in firefox okay but half the video sites just plain don't load.
Might be a flash codec issue or something, iplayer low quality plays
fine for example but high quality won't load. no youtube video will
load.

Absolutely positive about my versioning.  I did an 'apt-get source
libgnomecanvas' which gets libgnomecanvas_2.20.1.1-1ubuntu3, and built
it by hand, with and without that patch which is a part of this package.
The ubuntu-compiled package that was installed by default in intrepid
definitely has the above problem.  Took me nearly a week to track down
the source...

The -1ubuntu2 package attached to this bug has the problem I see too.

Andcor: 'apt-get source libgnomecanvas' will create the directory
libgnomecanvas-2.20.1.1, in which you will find
debian/patches/90_upstream_correctly_update.patch.  Rename (to something
that doesn't end in .patch) or remove this file, and do a dpkg-
buildpackage to get a libgnomecanvas without this bug.

When one of the images in  ~/Images is not of the expected format (in my
case, a file with a ".jpg" extension was acually a RDF/XML file), gnome-
appearance-properties  crashes with a SIGSEGV without any message.

This is extremely bad programming practice!

OK, it is not a JPEG (for unknown reasons) but crashing with SIGSEGV is
incredibly careless.

The problem is still there. The workaround I reported before works but
it's not so good for beginners. I find out that the problems seems to be
because of my xorg (dualhead generated by ati's catalyst), when I
restore my standard xorg everything works fine. But I still can't find
out why this not working with my xorg.

Similar problem here:
The cpufreq applet randomly display garbage. Practically, when something is 
drawn over the area (for example a tooltip label) it remains there.
Panel background is set to solid color with transparency. Turning transparency 
off do not resolve the issue, but will occasionally clear the applet area, 
making it disappear as if it is not on the panel (the panel has the correct 
color, even with transparency applied. No color blocks)
The applet always remain functional: the tooltip shows the correct policy and 
frquence, and it is posible to set them.

Screenshots attached for more clarity. The applet should be on the left of the 
volume icon.
I am using intrepid i386, installed from cd over a previous Hardy install, in 
the case it's relevant.

As far as I understand the thing is that a lot of mp3's id3 tags are
encoded in windows-1251 not in unicode. and most players do not detect
local encodings. this is also valid for at least amarok, totem and
nautilus (file properties, "Audio" tab). Audacious has an option to
autodetect local encodings and it also allows to input default encoding.

wrong colors during movie playback, I see colors in stripes over the normal

And I can not make a screenshot from this bug, and that is a bug too.

The layer of the screenshot is visible when you move with the mouse the exemple 
file.
Then you will see and find the corners of the layer on the desktop.
So the layer is recorded and not removed. And only visible with the example 
square of the screenshot file.

Possible bug in gxine?  Opening credits ("Disney" etc.) appear about 3/4
through the 90-min. movie (never stopped nor restarted), mixed with
material from late in the story.  Animated appearance of speech
extremely poor match with voices heard.  Story line of WALL-E is
incomprehensible as a consequence.

I've tried a few things, but the following seems to have worked for me.
1. Go to Edit->Preferences->Mail Preferences and check "Confirm when expunging 
a folder"
2. Go to the folder you wish to expunge.  Select expunge (I used Ctrl-E)
3. The "Evolution Query" pop-up appears, check the "Do not show this message 
again" box, then Confirm.

I have no idea why this worked for me.  Maybe something in the dialog
box is interfering with the expunge?  Odd...

The bug is about copying musics inside a playlist to an SD card.

Currently, the only way to do this is creating that special file, then
selected the sd card and from the tool bar edit->paste (took me a while
to find, no other way to do it)

Dinamic playlists are supported now in rythmbox, the only real thing
left is to create an automatic playlist in a random order (maybe I
should file another bug for this ? )

This bug has been arround for about 1.5 year ... any chance to see if
fixed on 9.04 ?

When I choose to create an automatic playlist, it lets me order the
musics for various ways : Year, Title, Artist, Rating, etc.

But if a user wants to Generate a limited random playlist to copy
elsewhere with limited storage (an sd card for example), this is bad,
because the same musics will be copied for each order selected.

So I propose to be able to generate an Automatic Playlist, randomly
ordering the musics.

If I press the power button while the screen is locked, the "Shutdown
the computer" menu comes up (but behind the screen lock - I have to
unlock the screen to see it). The bad part is that it informs me it will
log me off in 60 seconds, so that means that someone could log me off
right from the lock screen.

Normally when I plug in my flash drive, nautilus opens it in a window.
If my screen is locked when I plug in my flash drive, the screen lock 
disappears completely, showing my session as if it was unlocked, with the new 
nautilus window on the task bar highlighted waiting to be clicked.

Except that the system doesn't respond to any normal inputs. I can't
click on anything or use my keyboard on any of the shown programs. I
have to either ctrl+alt+backspace, or ctrl+alt+f1, log in, and killall
gnome-screensaver to get the computer to do anything.

This is slightly embarrassing... :-}  but after some rather tortuous
struggles with an entirely different problem (trying the fglrx driver
and reverting to the open source radeon one after finding the former
couldn't handle my 2 monitor setup), f-spot once more works for me.
Another app that was giving me problems (Stellarium) also works again,
so I can only conclude this was an X11 problem at least in part.

I'm happy to do more tests if there are specific ones that would help...
otherwise please accept my apologies for possibly throwing a red herring
or two into the mix!

For whatever it's worth, I haven't been futzing with xorg.conf (unlike
years past) but letting the gnome-display-properties applet do its thing
(with xrandr presumably).

Update Manager is showing 24 updates to load.  I have let Update Manager
run for more than 24 hours and it continues to run but never installs
even one update.  This issue has been plaguing me for more than a week.

I am running 8.04 (hardy), Kernel Linux 2.6.24-22-generic, GNOME 2.22.1
and would like to upgrade to 8.10 but I am unable to install any updates
to 8.04.

When I attempt to open System Sources it does not launch.  I'm stuck.

Any help would be appreciated.

After rebooting I selected a single package to install.  Update Manager
is running and shows "Downloading list of  changes but after 15
minutes it has not stopped.  This will continue forever.   Appreciate
