[Bug 208181] Re: Optional Information Needed to Connect to Samba Share

2008-09-06 Thread Pajari Räsänen
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 216104 ***

In the latest automatic Samba updates (Sept. 6, 2008) the bug seems to
have been fixed. Now I can access the shares on my Ubuntu desktop from
my Ubuntu laptop with no hassle in my home network. I'm so pleased I
thought I must post thanks for that. Great work!!

[Bug 41159] Re: timezone data is duplicated over at least three packages in main

2008-09-06 Thread Black_Diamond
Both ICU4C and ICU4J include their own copy of the tzdata in a more
usable format. Since the existing POSIX and Linux APIs insufficiently
expose all of the timezone data, and because the CLDR metazone
information is tightly bound to a version of the timezone data, ICU
can't use the system tzdata. Also ICU is a cross platform library, and
not all operating system use the same type of timezone data. This is a
common problem for environments that want to detect and use all the
rules for the timezone data, like Java, vmware, ICU and others. There
is no way to reliably get access to the Olson timezone ID.

ICU already provides instructions for updating the timezone data, and
those instructions are located here: http://www.icu-
project.org/userguide/dateTimezone.html#tzupdate

I recommend using a similar approach to what Apple and other operating
system vendors do with ICU and its timezone data. This basically means
using the --with-data-packaging=archive configure option, and defining
the ICU_DATA_DIR macro in CPPFLAGS before configuring ICU. Defining a
default value for ICU_DATA_DIR allows ICU to find its data. An example
can be found on Apple's web site:
http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/Current/ICU-8.11.1/makefile

ICU's User Guide also provides more detailed information about managing
ICU's data, if you're interested.  http://www.icu-
project.org/userguide/icudata.html

If you have further questions, the people on the icu-support mailing list might
be able to help.

[Bug 267047] [NEW] cpufreq applet doesn't draw anything (white square) in gnome-panel

2008-09-06 Thread Olivier Cortès
Public bug reported:

Hi,
When my session opens, sometimes cpufreq-applet doens't draw itself on the
panel (see attachment).
Left/Right button click and changing preferences (which work perfectly per se)
doesn't help : at best the white square gets bigger if I choose to display
"graphic and text" instead of just "graphic".
Removing the applet and adding an identically configured new one to the panel
is a workaround, but not acceptable for a standard user I think.
On my machine this bug appears 50% of time (this is a rough estimation).

Hardware info can be found at http://deep-ocean.net/files/sony/
I'm on up-to-date intrepid, and this behaviour as been seen from alpha 4, when
I joined the lucky-alpha-debuggers because my video card was not supported
under hardy ;-)

My WM is compiz. If I switch to metacity (System→Preferences→Appearance → No
effects), the white square turns into a transparent one : applet is stills here
(i can click, change governor, etc), but invisible.
If I switch back to compiz, the applet stays transparent.

[Bug 211632] Re: vlc does not play files from a "bookmarked" smb share

2008-09-06 Thread Iron Bishop
Almost the same problem occurs when I try to play a movie from my NAS,
connecting by FTP: both Totem and VLC refuses to play the movie.

I tryed to play both "ftp://nas/folder/movie.avi"; and
"~/.gvfs/nas/folder/movie.avi" URL: in the first case I got the "Unable
to open" error. In the second case I see network being in use and bytes
passing from NAS to PC, then after some time (like 2 minutes) VLC shows
the first fwe seconds (like 4) of the movie, then it hangs there showing
that same frame (like in "pause"). VLC process is not frozen. After some
other time, network activity goes down (maybe because of FTP timeout?).

[Bug 241757] Re: libgtk2.0-dev should depend on libxml2-utils because of gtk-builder-convert

2008-09-06 Thread Loïc Minier
No, recommends are not installed on buildds by default nor in pbuilder;
when I saw the recommends addition in Ubuntu yesterday, I added a
Depends in the Debian GNOME SVN, so the next time Ubuntu rebases on
these packages, it will be a Depends.

gtk+2.0 (2.12.11-4) UNRELEASED; urgency=low

  * Let libgtk2.0-dev recommend debhelper for dh_gtkmodules.
  * Let libgtk2.0-dev depend on libxml2-utils as it's required for
gtk-builder-convert to work and might be relied upon by packages bdeping

[Bug 267109] [NEW] a second gnome-power-manager gets launched as root, without reason

2008-09-06 Thread Olivier Cortès
Public bug reported:

Hi,
after having applyed a 2 lines patch to resolve bug LP#260314
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power-manager/+bug/260314/comments/8),
 my GPM works normally. But sometimes, without any reason or manual
intervention from me, another daemon is started, as root.

I can see this because a second g-p-m notification icon appears in the
systray, and my backlight is resetted to 100% (I've configured it to 40%
in my GPM preferences). If I sudo kill the root gpm, my session does not
seem to be affected (nothing crashes, nothing changes). Some times later
(say, 10 to 30 minutes), another daemons starts again as root, and same
player shoots again (sudo kill).

[Bug 228978] Re: Web addresses saved on disk open in Gedit instead of Firefox

2008-09-06 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
I have tried to move the ".local" folder in another place and in fact now the
url saved to the desktop open correctly in Firefox.
If I move again .local to his original place the problem is still present.

So the problem is somewhere in the .local folder. Now: where?
My .local folder contain these sub-folders:
-> share
---> applications
---> desktop-directories
---> icons
---> locale
---> mime
---> parcellite
---> tracker
---> trash

Perhaps is the "mime" folder the right one to watch in?

[Bug 267109] Re: a second gnome-power-manager gets launched as root, without reason

2008-09-06 Thread Olivier Cortès
** Description changed:

  Hi,
  after having applyed a 2 lines patch to resolve bug LP#260314

+
+ I'm on up-to-date Intrepid. Hardware info @ http://deep-
+ ocean.net/files/sony/

[Bug 267090] Re: Keyring badly integrated in intrepid

2008-09-06 Thread Wouter Stomp
I use autologin (marked the checkbox during installation). The first
time I tried to connect to my wireless network, the keyring asked me to
set a password for it. Now after every reboot, I am asked for my
password because networkmanager wants to use the keyring.

Perhaps this is due to the new automatic login option in ubiquity not
setting things up properly?

I fetched down those updates to Samba on my Hardy 8.04 32-bit system,
rebooted, and now this morning see your comment Pajari.

So I tested creating a connection, filling in:
server
share
userid
domain

At the next dialog entered my password, and selected the radio button to
"remember password until I logout".

As usual, up came the usual error dialog, which I closed.

Clicking on the desktop icon, it opens but it also doubles up that icon
creating a second icon "exactly" the same as the first.

Looks the same to me.

[Bug 228978] Re: Web addresses saved on disk open in Gedit instead of Firefox

2008-09-06 Thread Nicola Jelmorini
Now here we are!
I have analyzed the content of "applications" directory and I have found that
was the Firefox desktop file that have a problem. I have deleted this one and
now the url saved on desktop open correctly in Firefox (in the mean time Gnome
(or Nautilus?) has created automatically a new Firefox desktop file that
function correctly).

So this bug is resolved.
Many thanks Sebastien
