[Bug 148432] gnome-panel freezes randomly if restarted
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel If you run 'killall gnome-panel' the panel normally gets restartsed. Sometimes, though the restart happens as should, and a new gnome-panel process gets created, no new panel gets drawn on screen. The process just seems to get stuck on something. After entering this state, not much is doable. Running 'killall gnome-panel' starts a new process, but from this point on no new processes will ever draw the panel. This makes me guess, it could be a metacity bug or something alike, but I'm submitting this as gnome-panel bug as I don't know better. Although this is quite random, it happens to me say once every ten restarts, so it should be reproduceable. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-panel freezes randomly if restarted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148432 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 141160] Re: When remote desktop access is disabled, vino-session will still run
I agree that the cleanest way is to watch the GConf key and start a process based on its changes: it's how other GConf settings work, for example all gnome-settings-daemon settings. Perhaps it would be clearer to simply name the watcher "vino-watcher" or "vino-launcher" so that users could easily guess what the process is about? This could also be made a more generic service such as "gconf- launcher" as other apps might need the feature. Alternatively, dbus could start such a program, so replacing GConf via DBus would save us a "gconf-launcher" process. -- When remote desktop access is disabled, vino-session will still run https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141160 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 141226] Re: Pushing Backspace moves to parent directory but also beeps
Is there any work on fixing this? The problem also occurs when deleting files using the "Del" key. While it is not a functional bug, I think it should really be fixed before the Gutsy relase (if possible): 1.) It is a definite regression to Feisty Fawn 2.) A User will not understand why the computer beeps in a way that's normally used for error conditions only 3.) It reduces the trust put into Nautilus (and thus into Gnome and thus into Ubuntu and thus into Linux) by making it feel "not perfect". I know that last item sounds strange but isn't quality a lot about perception? When navigating around a file system and doing some work those two actions, moving to the parent directory (backspace) and deleting a file (del), are rather common and if each time this action is invoked produces an audible beep then I personally tend to avoid using nautilus for these actions. There's a workaround in unchecking "Enable System Beep" in the Audio preferences, but obviously this also disables valid beeps. -- Pushing Backspace moves to parent directory but also beeps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 147668] Re: No way to browse applications' manuals
Thanks for the report. This is an intentional result of our customisations to Yelp, which have been the subject of substantial discussion throughout the last two or three release cycles in the documentation team so for now I'm closing this bug as WONTFIX. The topics currently available should cover most subjects relevant to the desktop user, and inside each topic it should be possible to browser to relevant manuals (and relevant index pages from upstream). The idea is to enable Ubuntu-created documents and upstream material to be merged into the structure rather than separate. Naturally, all the installed manuals are available from the search function as usual (which is where most users actually start). If there are specific pages which you believe should be included in the current setup, and aren't, please file a bug on ubuntu-docs. ** Changed in: yelp (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Won't Fix -- No way to browse applications' manuals https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147668 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
