4.2.1-4pre5v1 crashing on Radeon
Greetings. I have installed 4.2.1-4pre5v1 packages on x86 kernel 2.4.20 with a Radeon All-in-Wonder. The X server is crashing when I am away from the console, and I suspect it might be crashing in one of the xscreensaver hacks. The symptom is that the xserver crashes, and gdm restarts it. I get this totally uninformative message in the log: syslog.0:Jan 15 15:55:21 noodles gdm[652]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 syslog.0:Jan 16 04:57:59 noodles gdm[4047]: gdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0 The output from the X server in /var/log/XFree86.0.log gets overwritten at restart. Is there an option I can set to append to or rotate this log file so I don't lose the info? Maybe the problem could be reproduced by quickly cycling through the xscreensaver hacks. Greetings all. I have a powerbook g4, first revision. Since upgrading to 4.2.1-4 X packages last night, my powerbook now crashes when woken up, if X is running. I had this very same problems, which I traced to my installation of Xft and Fontconfig from fontconfig.org. I got rid of those, and everything was peachy. The solution was to remove Xft2 and Fontconfig, as those are incompatible with xftcache. According to Keith Packard, xftcache is obsolete in favor of fccache. Search google for xftcache and speedo, many people have reported this to various mailing lists. -jwb -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? 4.2.0 prerelease packages, RandR
Howdy, I installed the prerelease packages, and they work great on my multihead G450 + Millenium II flat panel setup. Absolutely no worries of any kind, except that for some reason the fonts section of the config file never includes my truetype fonts, but I digress. I am interested in the Resize-and-Rotate (RandR) extension in 4.2.0. I see that the client (xrandr) is installed, but there is little documentation. How do you load the extension? There is no librandr. I tried a number of "Load" lines in the config that didn't work. Also I understand that RandR is mutually incompatible with Xinerama. Is that true? I want to get this extension working so I can hack GNOME 2 to move the panels and window decorations if I rotate the panel from landscape to portrait. -jwb -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#170749: xfonts-scalable: runnxftcache in Speedo directory fails
-jwb

Sure, I'll take a look. But it means I need to screw up my system with fontconfig and xft2 again. Anyone have .debs for those two? -jwb

Wait, I think I nailed down the problem. This is xftdir.c in Xft2.1: Bool XftDirScan (XftFontSet *set, const char *dir, Bool force) { return FcFalse; } Bool XftDirSave (XftFontSet *set, const char *dir) { return FcFalse; } heh -jwb
