Bug#319003: xserver-xorg: Trident and -3: libvgahw is still broken

2005-07-19 Thread Guillaume Melquiond
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This bug-report is related to #318218, #318231, #318271, #318405. Feel
free to merge it with them. I didn't, because part of the problem
reported in these bug-reports was indeed fixed by the last version.

With the previous versions of xserver-xorg, because of the
miscompilation in libvgahw, the screen was pure white in graphical mode,
and completely garbled when switching to text VTs. Now, with the fix
included in -3, the text consoles are usable again. But the screen is
still pure white in graphical mode.

Installing the libvgahw.a file compiled by Ender fixes the problem. So
it seems there is another miscompilation somewhere in the file.

This version of the library fixes the problem as well. Thanks.

Bug#362494: libxv1: Bad video display with X.org modular libraries

2006-04-13 Thread Guillaume Melquiond
Package: libxv1
Version: 1:1.0.1-2
Severity: important

When playing a movie, the picture stutters a lot, as if the video frames
were not displayed in the correct order (1,0,3,2,4,etc). Reverting the
libxv1 package to version 6.9.0.dfsg.1-6 fixed the issue.

This is not the only package I had to revert to pre-modular version. I
also reverted libxfixes3 because Gnome applications were not starting
anymore. So maybe the video problem is a consequence of a more general
issue in the modular X libraries.

The video card is a Trident CyberBlade XPAi1.

Great. Unfortunately, I can't install it because of current x11-common
breakage (#362711 and its duplicates).

No, I didn't, this is still 1:7.0.10.

I powered down the computer since the initial report. And now the
situation is quite confusing. Although libxv1 is still 6.9, mplayer is
broken again. However not all my xvideo applications are broken:
totem-xine correctly displays videos for example.

As soon as I can install packages again, I will do some more extensive
testing and see if there really is a pattern.

Best regards,

Guillaume

Setting the mtrr registers by hand fixed the issue. I wasn't able to
reproduce the behavior I described in my first bug-report; I may have
been confused due to some Xv applications still working properly. Sorry.

Best regards,

Guillaume
