Bug#790663: Extremely slow window dragging and very poor performance with KMS activated on RV100/M6 [Rage/Radeon Mobility Series]

Why are you disabling this? If the desktop environment (DE) you're using
(which is it?) supports compositing, that might alleviate the problem.

Disabling AIGLX isn't a good idea either. I don't think Option "DRI2"
has any effect.

Does commenting out these options help?

I recommend against disabling this.

This Virtual directive is unnecessary with KMS and causes the driver to
allocate at least twice as much VRAM as necessary for the front buffer.
Please try commenting it out.

The Xorg radeon driver doesn't support UMS anymore.

tests/exynos: handle G2D_IMGBUF_COLOR in switch statements

This fixes a compiler warning about missing handling of enum
values in the switch statements.

Also remove the silent mapping to G2D_IMGBUF_GEM when an
unknown buffer type is encountered. We have full control
about the type here, and if it's unknown then we obviously
have a bug in the code.

Bug#790663: Extremely slow window dragging and very poor performance with KMS activated on RV100/M6 [Rage/Radeon Mobility Series]

2015-07-01 Thread Alfonso García
Hi, thanks for respond so quickly.

In resume: The only thing give me an usable X environment is the following
option:

Option "Accel" "off"

This way I can work decently but not faster than with previous version
(Debian 7)

A detail that I forget to include is that I work with an external monitor
controlled by xrandr. When I start the X window system (writting "startx")
both screens are twins (it shows the same with the same resolution). The
problem comes when I turn off LVDS and get the VGA maximum resolution:

xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto --mode 1920x1080

NOTE: I insists that with the previous version of driver (Debian 7) I didn't
have any problem, all works fine. All stop working with the upgrade.

If you need additional information, please feel free to ask

Thank you for you time.

I respond on your message below...

I really don't know why I disabled this, I just was proving different
options.

I'm working with the OpenBox window manager.

No, the only thing that help something is turned off accel:

Option "Accel" "off"

If I do that, I can get an usable X environment. Which it is paradoxical,
because I'm working without graphic acceleration

Hi!
Please enable the udeb in src:xorg-server on x32. All that needs to be done
here is an addition to debian/control.

While it's a trivial change, to test it you would need a big heap of ported
udebs that I haven't yet submitted patches for. My plan is to provide a
repository only once it's fit for human consumption -- but if you would
prefer to see my current state, I can make it available.

Or perhaps you want just a compiled netboot-gtk .iso as a proof this patch
works :)

Debdiff attached.

Please keep this issue open in the bug tracker for the package it
was filed for. If a fix in another package is required, please
file a bug for the other package (or clone), and add a block in this
package. Please keep the issue open until the package can be built in
a follow-up test rebuild.

The package fails to build in a test rebuild on at least amd64 with
gcc-5/g++-5, but succeeds to build with gcc-4.9/g++-4.9. The
severity of this report may be raised before the stretch release.

The full build log can be found at:
http://people.debian.org/~doko/logs/gcc5-20150205/xorg-server_1.16.2.901-1_unstable_gcc5.log
The last lines of the build log are at the end of this report.

To build with GCC 5, either set CC=gcc-5 CXX=g++-5 explicitly,
or install the gcc, g++, gfortran, ... packages from experimental.

  apt-get -t experimental install g++

Common build failures are C11 as the default C mode, new warnings
resulting in build failures with -Werror turned on, or new/dropped
symbols in Debian symbols files. For other C/C++ related build failures
see the porting guide at http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-5/porting_to.html

Dear Maintainer,

Currently this package doesn't when using the VESA driver; the error is visible
in Xorg.0.log.

This is especially important for hurd (where I experienced this bug) because
that's the only driver available in practice.

It is fixed in ubuntu;

Package: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
Version: 1:1.0.11-1+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,
After upgrade to latest testing nouveau driver colors in X became ugly. Also
all cursor graphics became garbaged.
KDE's jumping icons upon start of application became garbage.

Hello,

xhost does not grant access despite claiming otherwise since the upgrade
to 1.17.1.
,
| $ xhost
| access control enabled, only authorized clients can connect
| SI:localuser:foo
| SI:localuser:bar
`

,
| $ su - foo
| Passwort:
| foo@test:~$ xeyes
| No protocol specified
| Error: Can't open display: :0.0

However, access is granted if access control is disabled with xhost +x.
Logs don't mention any problem regarding access control.

Thanks,
Dirk

Dear Maintainer,

X server crashes immediately after starting window manager,
or, when using xterm or other simple client instead of WM,
after moving pointer to its window.

This is consistently reproducible on laptop with Radeon Express 200,
but never on two PCs with Nvidia and Intel video, running exactly
same live usb system.

The xserver crashes with the latest version in testing version:
xserver-xorg-core=2:1.17.1-2 xserver-xorg-video-vesa=1:2.3.3-1+b4

It works with:
aptitude install xserver-xorg-core=2:1.16.4-1
xserver-xorg-video-vesa=1:2.3.3-1+b3
(forcing a downgrade to those versions fix the problem.)

The CPU architecure is x86 and the video chipset is a SiS.

Bug#784687: still not working from remote machine

2015-07-01 Thread Bill Brelsford
Access is still denied to another machine. E.g., rsh from machine
foo to bar (or ssh and change DISPLAY to foo:0) and open an xterm.
Get "access denied". Worked before 1.17.1.

Bill

There's no going back to UMS, you have to find some kind of solution
with KMS.

Can you try if a simple compositing manager (e.g. xcompmgr -a) helps
with the problem (with the options below commented out)?

Please provide /var/log/Xorg.0.log corresponding to commenting out
everything I recommended in xorg.conf.

Your GPU has a very limited amount of VRAM, so the kernel radeon driver
probably has to migrate buffers between VRAM and GTT a lot, which slows
things down. Disabling Option "EXAPixmaps" (which is the default for
that small amount of VRAM) should avoid that.
