Bug#790663: Extremely slow window dragging and very poor performance with KMS activated on RV100/M6 [Rage/Radeon Mobility Series]
Hi, thanks for respond so quickly. In resume: The only thing give me an usable X environment is the following option: Option "Accel" "off" This way I can work decently but not faster than with previous version (Debian 7) A detail that I forget to include is that I work with an external monitor controlled by xrandr. When I start the X window system (writting "startx") both screens are twins (it shows the same with the same resolution). The problem comes when I turn off LVDS and get the VGA maximum resolution: xrandr --output VGA-0 --auto --mode 1920x1080 NOTE: I insists that with the previous version of driver (Debian 7) I didn't have any problem, all works fine. All stop working with the upgrade. If you need additional information, please feel free to ask Thank you for you time. I respond on your message below... While it's a trivial change, to test it you would need a big heap of ported udebs that I haven't yet submitted patches for. My plan is to provide a repository only once it's fit for human consumption -- but if you would prefer to see my current state, I can make it available. Or perhaps you want just a compiled netboot-gtk .iso as a proof this patch works :) Debdiff attached. diff -u xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/changelog xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/changelog --- xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/changelog +++ xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/changelog @@ -1,3 +1,9 @@ +xorg-server (2:1.16.2.901-1+x32) jessie-x32; urgency=medium + + * Enable the udeb on x32. + + -- Adam Borowski Fri, 09 Jan 2015 23:40:49 +0100 + xorg-server (2:1.16.2.901-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream release diff -u xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/control xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/control --- xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/control +++ xorg-server-1.16.2.901/debian/control @@ -158,7 +158,7 @@ XC-Package-Type: udeb Section: debian-installer # exclude sparc because of linker errors -Architecture: alpha amd64 armel armhf hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 mips mipsel powerpc powerpcspe s390 +Architecture: alpha amd64 armel armhf hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 mips mipsel powerpc powerpcspe s390 x32 Depends: # merged: xserver-common (>= ${source:Version}), xkb-data-udeb, --- End Message --- --- Begin Message --- Source: xorg-server Source-Version: 2:1.17.2-1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of xorg-server, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive. Bug#784687: still not working from remote machine
Access is still denied to another machine. E.g., rsh from machine foo to bar (or ssh and change DISPLAY to foo:0) and open an xterm. Get "access denied". Worked before 1.17.1. Bug#790663: Extremely slow window dragging and very poor performance with KMS activated on RV100/M6 [Rage/Radeon Mobility Series]

There's no going back to UMS, you have to find some kind of solution with KMS. > On 01/07/15, Michel Dänzer wrote: >> On 01.07.2015 01:44, alfon wrote: >>> >>> Section "Extensions" >>> Option "Composite" "Disable" >>> EndSection >> >> Why are you disabling this? Which it is paradoxical, > because I'm working without graphic acceleration Your GPU has a very limited amount of VRAM, so the kernel radeon driver probably has to migrate buffers between VRAM and GTT a lot, which slows things down. Disabling Option "EXAPixmaps" (which is the default for that small amount of VRAM) should avoid that. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer | http://www.amd.com Libre software enthusiast | Mesa and X developer -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
