Bug#680491: xserver-xorg: segfaults at startup

2012-07-06 Thread Harald Geyer
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.7+1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

this is the first time I install Debian on this machine, so I don't
know if older versions would have worked nor do I know if this is
specific to kfreebsd:

I tried starting X via startx and got a segfault as can be seen in the
log below. Also note the DRM related error message...

If I find the time, I'll try to install again with linux kernel
and followup on this. (Should there be anything more productive
I could do on this, then I'm in for it of course.)

BTW: I read in some other report, that a user had similar problems
that went away when running as root. So I tried running as root,
but still got the segfault it this case.

Bug#680306: How have you managed to do that?

There's hope: today upstream pushed a commit that looks like it might
fix your issue. Can you please build and test the 1:1.0.1-2 package
available at http://alioth.debian.org/~joachim-guest/ ?

TIA,
Sven

Wow. Wow! WOW!!!
It works very well.
More than, now text-scrolling in tilda (terminal emulator) is 1
times faster! (It was fast in non-so-near past, but started to be
*very slow* since March 2012 or like.)

If this patch will be applied, then this bug can be closed. And bug #679127 too.

Upstream is great :-)
