Bug#646890: xserver-xorg-core: xserver crashes on YeeLoong despite mips-sarea.patch
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.11.1.901-1panayk1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, On MIPS YeeLoong, the xserver crashes at startup with a segmentation fault, despite having applied the mips-sarea patch. The segmentation fault occurs at line 1123 of hw/xfree86/vgahw/vgaHW.c. The attached patch resolved the issue for me, but it is only a workaround because I expect it disables VGA output. -- Package-specific info: X server symlink status: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Oct 26 08:13 /etc/X11/X -> /usr/bin/Xorg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2067272 Oct 24 07:55 /usr/bin/Xorg VGA-compatible devices on PCI bus: -- 00:08.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Silicon Motion, Inc. (Similar to, possibly the same bug as #516014, but hald-addon-storage was not doing anything on my machine. My machine is a dual-core amd64 system.) I SSH'd in and tried killing various X apps I had open, but was unable to regain control. strace (unfortunately, I didn't capture the output) showed X repeatedly receiving what appeared to be a realtime alarm signal. After about fifteen minutes looking through the bug reports to see if anyone else had reported this (or found a fix), I switched back to X to take another look, and the screen saver had blanked the screen; xscreensaver's password prompt came up normally and let me back into my X session, which was now responding to input. X keyboard input was being processed as if alt was still pressed, but pressing and releasing alt fixed that as well. -- Package-specific info: /var/lib/x11/X.roster does not exist. /var/lib/x11/X.md5sum does not exist. My motherboard is Asus P5E-VM HDMI, with intel graphics integrated. I'm not using any graphic card and I use fluxbox like window manager. Well, this problem occurs without a pattern observed by me. Simply the mouse starts getting slow and in the getty that I started the X, this message appears: Message from syslogd@invisiblemanguard at Nov 19 13:36:16 ... kernel:[17114.872681] Disabling IRQ #16 This problem forces me to close and reopen the window of the X because of this slow movement that the mouse does. The system is not slow, only the mouse. Bug#642012: x11-common: ssh-agent Xsession script does not check if gpg-agent will enable SSH support
Hello, I don't know the policy for overriding packages, but using that patch I fixed the problem for myself. As gpg-agent can provide the functionality of ssh-agent, 90gpg-agent can take over the functionality of 90x11-common_ssh-agent by unsetting OPTIONS[use-ssh-agent]. Another way of doing it is to chmod -x /usr/bin/ssh-agent, so using the alternatives system might provide a cleaner way. Bug#642012: Disregard previous patch
It might help, but functionality is *not the same*: e.g. gpg-agent cannot load ssh-keys bigger than 2048 bit. == hk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#646989: further info
Bugs, The system info automatically attached to my bug report describes the system "stable" that I installed from the same business-card image subsequent to the xorg failures and that allows me to report the bug. The failure with the "failed to load module "nv"" was with "unstable" and "testing." My experience was perhaps a little unusual because in all cases I did a minimum install with no selected packages. That worked fine. The bug became evident when I used aptitude to install xorg xinit jwm menu menu-xdg and ran startx (on the command line). The same procedure that failed on unstable and testing worked fine on stable. Searching for help, I found that nv was not present by intent in unstable and testing, but nouveau was. The stable install automatically used nouveau and had nouveau in xorg.conf.new. That is why my suspicions are currently on the configuration table, "Device" section, in testing and unstable, if I can find it. Having been burned once, I'm not going to overwrite my working stable system again. I'll do a dual boot with unstable on another hard disk and go looking for my own solution, but that will take me a little while. (My new stable needs returned to full functionality first.) I thought you might be interested in a show-stopper for anyone trying testing or unstable on an NV5M64 card. It would help if I knew how the configuration table is produced, but I have no idea. Bug#646992: Package description unclear
Package: libxpm4 Version: 1:3.5.9-3 Severity: wishlist X-Debbugs-CC: debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org Dear X Maintainers, thank you for maintaining this big, fat and complicated software. Updating the German package description I found that the first sentence of the description might be simplified or rephrased. What does "provides support and common operation" mean? If the library supports the format, I expect it to provide all necessary functionality to work with the format. Providing the ability to perform operations that are needed very often one could describe as "the ability to perform common operations". From this point of view in "support *and* common operations" and is wrong as common operations are a subset of full support: "and common operations" is superfluous. If the support is limited, I would like to know the limitations or an enumeration of the capabilities. So I would start the description with something like - This library provides support for the XPM image format, ... - This library supports the XPM image format, ... - This library enables your applications to handle the XPM image format, ...
