Indeed, looks like a kernel (or possibly BIOS) PCI failure. This should
probably be reassigned to the kernel, and you might want to try newer
kernels.

Bug#641343: [xserver-xorg-video-radeon] Please revise firmware suggestion

2011-09-12 Thread Filipus Klutiero

Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.2-1
Severity: wishlist

On a note related to #576229, it would be nice to clarify the suggestion
of firmware on two points:
1. The current suggestion is on firmware-linux, which is a metapackage
depending on firmware-linux-free and firmware-linux-nonfree. I can't see
how firmware-linux-free would help radeon, so it would be clearer to
suggest firmware-linux-nonfree directly.
2. There is no explanation of how the firmware improves radeon. It would
be nice to add an explanation to the extended description.

Reassigning with this message. Tomi, can you check if a newer kernel
fixes this, or if there are BIOS updates available for your machine?

Cheers,
Julien

Thanks for the follow-up and the -done@ message. FWIW, woody was long
ago, that's called wheezy now. ;-)

No. It should be the default, but the KDE people apparently like to
inflict pain on their users. Sigh.
