I'm afraid so; OpenVG is only available for Gallium drivers, so for now
the only hope would be for older chipsets supported by the i915g driver.

Re: xorg configuration for the non-free nvidia driver

2011-07-12 Thread Andreas Beckmann
On 2011-07-11 19:33, Julien Cristau wrote:

I understand the concerns regarding alternatives and configuration
files, especially if update-alternatives is buggy when it comes to files
sitting in the place of alternatives targets (#633627).

So does anyone have a suggestion how to simplify the configuration of
nvidia-glx using a different approach? This would be interesting mainly
for new installations, not updates.

* libGL.so.1 and libglx.so need to be replaced by the proprietary
versions. This is done automatically by diversions (package
glx-diversions) and (slave) alternatives (package glx-alternative-
nvidia) upon installation of nvidia-glx. Manual reconfiguration (e.g.
switching back to MESA) is easy and does not require package removal:
update-alternatives --configure glx
* an xorg.conf (or xorg.conf.d/ snippet) has to be created because xorg
autoconfiguration does not detect the proprietary drivers, so we
need a 'Driver "nvidia"' line somewhere. Autoconfig of modes etc.
  usually works fine.
The user should be able to add more directives to customize his
  configuration (e.g. by using nvidia-settings or nvidia-xconfig).
An xorg.conf with 'Driver "nvidia"' "breaks" Xorg if the proprietary
driver is not available, e.g. the glx alternative is set to mesa. So
the configuration using the proprietary driver should be moved out of
  the way in that case.
The new apporach should be easily adaptable for other proprietary
  drivers, e.g. fglrx.

Bug#633343: Bug#633441: Lost keyboard - workaround found --> calling udevadm trigger

I have no idea how to find that out, especially since I cannot find
any error message related to udev except:

Waiting for /dev to be fully populated...[3.519432] r600_cp:
Failed to laod firmware "radeon/CEDAR_pfp.bin
(and then something about disabling GPU acceleration).

Otherwise I cannot find anything suggesting a problem with udev, no
failed, error, problem etc. during system boot, nor anything related
in the system logs, a restart of udev completes without any visible (on the
console / in the logs) error

> Also, read README.Debian.

I did. I could not find anything specific. I tried booting into single
user mode as described but given that I use lvm, this is non trivial
(I ended up in a kernel panic because no further partition could be
found).

I'll see if I try later when I have a kernel without initrd, but if
you now further venues for research please tell me.

Greetings

 Helge

If you boot with init=/bin/bash your root file system will be still
mounted by the initramfs, so you did something wrong.

Bug#633685: xorg: Xorg process uses 100% CPU

2011-07-12 Thread Pavel Butkov
Package: xorg
Version: 1:7.5+8
Severity: important

When trying to open a direcory with Nautilus, Xorg process uses 100% CPU ang
hangs the OS for 10-30 seconds even if it's empty. There is no such effect if I
use nautilus Bookmarks (aka Places) on the left panel in Nautilus. The system
also freeze when i'm trying to drag'n'drop file in order to use it in some app
