Bug#628664: xserver-xorg-core: X crashes on "startkde", i915, *ERROR* Hangcheck timer

2011-05-31 Thread Charles Samuels
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.10.2-1
Severity: important

When I installed 1.10.2-1 of this package, my Xserver crashes while KDE is
trying to start up. It never completes the
progress-bar of the KDE start screen.

*ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
[ 52.054122] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request returns
-11 (awaiting 5459 at 5443, next 5460)
(Note: the numbers are not the same in this line)

I downgraded the package to 1.10.1-2 and now it works again (although it's
still incredibly easy to crash this X
server when using GL). This bug report comes after the downgrade to the working
version). That's the only difference.

Define "broken"? Is the log you attached from a gnome3 session? Is
there anything in the gdm log or in .xsession-errors?

Cheers,
Julien

It does not show anything in the desktop besides the top bar and when you click
nothing happens. I would have thought it was a problem with gnome if it wasn't
because it works with the drivers from Squeeze and because #613957.
The mouse works just fine, i do wonder if could be some desktop effect from
gnome makes the system very very slow?

That was the stuff from the reportbug script. Attached .xsession-errors, gdm3
log
and again xorg.log. There is some stuff in French, I hope it's ok :P

Thanks,
ana

glsl: Fix memory error when creating the supported version string.

Passing ralloc_vasprintf_append a 0-byte allocation doesn't work. If
passed a non-NULL argument, ralloc calls strlen to find the end of the
string. Since there's no terminating '\0', it runs off the end.

Fixes a crash introduced in 14880a510a1a288df0778395097d5a52806abfb0.

#613957 doesn't even have very similar symptoms, there the screen does
update but in a corrupted way.

It sounds like more likely the GPU locks up. I suppose the 'working
drivers from squeeze' involve a different version of libgl1-mesa-dri,
and possibly the kernel?

Does libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-3 work better by any chance?

If not, does

Option "EnablePageFlip" "off"

(verify in Xorg.0.log that it takes effect) work around the problem?

I just installed the 6.2.1939 Kernel, and everything remains the same.
The typography is still distorted. As one can see it is with kernel 2.6.32.

Bug#627976: display freezing in fullscreen applications in linux-2.6.39

I forgot to say that switching to vt1 and then to vt7 again (CTRL-SHIFT-F1
CTRL-SHIFT-F7) unfreezes it but it freezes again in about 20-30 seconds.

According to an article[1] I tried using semaphores=1 and it seems to
have significantly reduced the freezing. I will test this workaround
some more.

Bug#628758: please include Ubuntu's "abi tag" patch into mesa

2011-05-31 Thread Harald Dunkel
Package: mesa
Version: 7.10.2-3

Hi folks,

Would it be possible to include Ubuntu's patch to tell mesa to
not override the regular ldconfig priorities?

This "abi tag" patch would be a reasonable workaround for
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=572895.
Currently I have to use overrides to install my own gl
libraries, which is just apita. Ubuntu's patch makes it
possible to use ldconfig priorities instead, as documented.

AFAIR this abi tag code was included in mesa for some problems
with 2.4.x kernels and TLS libraries (correct me if I am wrong).
It appears to be obsolete today, since Wheezy has no support
for 2.4. Not to mention that the abi tag is restricted to x86
and amd64, even though the old TLS problem was platform
independent.

Many thanx

Harri
