It was probably the kernel. There was a bug where it didn't restore PAT
attributes correctly on resume.

Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.14.0-4
Severity: important

Since upgrading to Wheezy, I'm having issues with Xorg crashing when running
some gpu intensive tasks (noticed with flightgear mostly)

When this happens, the screen goes blank and the system becomes unresponsive. I
am unable to kill X, or switch to a VT so I am forced to restart the system.
Sometimes my external monitor will shut off as well.

Checking Xorg.0.log.old I discovered the following errors:

[ 2706.013] (EE) intel(0): Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration.
[ 2706.051] (EE) intel(0): failed to set cursor: Input/output error

[ 2706.587] (WW) intel(0): intel_uxa_prepare_access: bo map failed:

The last line is repeated over and over.

Here is some information on my gpu. (lspci -v)

Bug#626115: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: kernel crash after period of user inactivity

Hi Cyril,

It looks like I was running xserver-xorg-video-radeon
1:6.13.1-2+squeeze1. And yes - it appears as though the change coincided
with an upgrade to linux-image-2.6-amd64 2.6.38+33. Also, I've tried
booting into linux image 2.6.32-31 - I didn't get a kernel dump, but I
did get the computer to stop responding (blank screen, still back lit,
unresponsive to keyboard). I suspect the only difference between a
kernel dump and the blank screen is whether or not the monitor has gone
off before or after the crash.

I don't have a copy of the old version of xserver-xorg-video-radeon and
I can't seem to find it on snapshot.d.o :(.

My current work around has been to turn off xscreensaver and disabled
dpms (via xset -dpms).

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help trouble shoot.

There's no such directory.

I'm using udev 167-3 and the kernel was linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd64
2.6.38-4 for the latest problems.

Now I'm using linux-image-2.6.38-2-amd64 2.6.38-5. I did a single
reboot and the problem didn't appear.

I don't know whether this is related, but apart from ordering
differences, lsmod shows the following ones: when the bug appeared,
I got

evdev 17475 16

and no joydev module listed. Now (where the bug doesn't appear),
I get

evdev 17475 17
joydev 17138 0

Probably not, apart from letting us know if you can reproduce with the
newer kernel. Seems like flaky touchpad detection.

Bug#585777: Radeon gamma bug, display too bright when using VGA output

2011-05-09 Thread Jason Graham
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.13.1-2+squeeze1
Severity: normal

I recently encountered this bug on a new installation of Squeeze (6.0.1a) on my
laptop with a external VGA output. The workaround of issuing:

radeontool regset DAC_MACRO_CNTL 0x0808

previously mentioned worked in my case.

Bug#585777: Radeon gamma bug, display too bright when using VGA output (additional info)

2011-05-09 Thread Jason Graham
Hi all,

It was found in my case that installing the *firmware-linux-nonfree* package
seems to completely resolve the Radeon gamma issue. I know that this may not
be a option for some users (due to the non-free package), but wanted to
forward along that it seemed to do the trick (at least for my setup).

Cheers,
Jason
