Bug#614222: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: falls to wrong horizontal resolution after starting wine application
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon Version: 1:6.14.0-1 Severity: normal Hi, I just tried to start my newsreader (forte agent using wine), when X decided that its memory layout was different and started to draw less pixels per line than the display has (http://twitpic.com/41un09). Suspend-and-resume, which usually fixes issues of this type, didn't help here, I had to kill and restart the X server. Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration
Hi. Thanks for the prompt help. How can I know for sure that I have i8xx card? If I do have an i8xx card - I understood from the FAQ you linked that I should change my video driver to vesa or fbdev. Which is prefered? How can I make this change? Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration
Another points - 1. What are the disavantages of using a generic driver instead of this one? 2. Is this problem related to using Debian, or is it for any Linux distro I will use? 3. Maybe the installer program should be aware of the i8xx compatibility problem, and not install this driver on the first place? Thanks again ... I'd say fbdev (spares you a reboot to disable KMS), and vesa if it doesn't work well. KiBi. signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration
- Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "an upstram issue"? - Regrading the installer: Well, I think that it's quite an important issue. When the avarage end-user will encounter a need to reboot his computer 5 times a day, he will just say that Linux is even worse than Windows, and will get back to Microsoft ... I think that we have to think how can we help him. If adding this ability to the installer is problematic, there must be some other creative solution. Maybe upon activation of his new environment, the driver will recognize that it's running on un-supported chipset, and will pop-up some window, suggesting the user to switch to 'fbdev', with explanation that ordinary people can understand (or maybe even suggest to do it automatically). Thanks again for all the help, Zvika On Sun, Feb 20, 2011 at 4:44 PM, Cyril Brulebois wrote: > Hi. > > katif software (20/02/2011): > > 1. Bug#588785: xterm: consider supporting freedesktop.org style clipboard behavior
Hi, good news! I was just told that if I run xclipboard I can get the behavior I want. So: 1) xclipboard & 2) xterm -xrm 'XTerm*VT100*translations: #override\nShift Ctrl v:insert-selection(CLIPBOARD)\nShift Ctrl c:copy-selection(CLIPBOARD)' 3) select text using mouse 4) hit ctrl-shift-c 5) click at random location 6) hit ctrl-shift-v works as expected: 3) clipboard is not modified 4) selected text is added to clipboard 5) text is not highlighted. contents of clipboard is preserved 6) contents of clipboard is sent as input to the terminal Also, it seems that xterm -xrm 'XTerm*VT100*translations: #override\nShift Ctrl v:insert-selection(CLIPBOARD)\nShift Ctrl c:select-set(CLIPBOARD)' works even with xterm 261-1 in debian squeeze. I'll definitely continue testing this but this looks promising :-) best regards, Timo Lindfors -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-x-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration
Hi Again. Switching to fbdeb made thing even worse, there was no graphics at all.. I had to switch to vesa, and disable KMS. But now I have only 640x480 graphics, which cause me to miss the crashes I had before with the regular intel driver. After more Googling, I have found this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes What do you think about the work arounds suggested there? I'm a bit afraid of trying those, because I read somewhere in the FAQ that taking solutions from other distros to Debian might be problematic; so I wanted to verify that these are safe to try. Thanks, and good night. Bug#614297: the keyboard configuration is reset by hotplug events
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.9.4-3 Severity: normal An input uevent (e.g. un/plugging a mouse, which does not trigger the rule in 64-xorg-xkb.rules) resets my custom user-configured keyboard configuration. I have a mildly complex xkb configuration in ~/.xkb/ which I load with: xkbcomp -w 0 -I${HOME}/.xkb/ ~/.xkb/keymap/marco $DISPLAY but the same issue can be reproduced just with xmodmap: xmodmap - << END keycode 108 = Mode_switch keycode 54 = c C cent END I even tried working around this bug by copying my custom configuration from ~/.xkb/ to /usr/share/X11/xkb/ and setting my own xkb options in /etc/default/keyboard, but I must have got something wrong (not modifying the *.dir files? I cannot do this since they are not conffiles) because it does not work. I am attaching these files too. -- Package-specific info: X server symlink status: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Oct 29 2006 /etc/X11/X -> /usr/bin/Xorg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1771432 Feb 20 06:53 /usr/bin/Xorg VGA-compatible devices on PCI bus: -- 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2a42] (rev 07) /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not exist. /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d does not exist.
