If you mean the discussion about non-TrueColor visuals being broken, no,
that doesn't affect depth 16 any more than depth 24.

I followed up on the upstream report, I suspect this is the xserver EXA
bug causing problems with tiling.

In which case, Arno, you may want to give xserver-xorg-core 2:1.9.4-3
a try.

Thanks! It indeed appears to be the same bug.

Will do -- as soon as that version is available for i386.

commit 4f08ede8515023f64b907e4a9013008fb1a5815b
Author: Chris Wilson
Date: Thu Feb 17 16:48:24 2011 +

uxa: Fallback if the temporary is too large

If the render operation requires a temporary source Picture and the
operation is large, larger than the maximum permitted bo, then we will
fail to allocate the bo. In this case, we need to fallback and perform
the operation on the CPU rather than dereference a NULL bo.

Fix sequence ordering.

Since both the autoreconf and quilt sequences insert a command before
dh_auto_configure, it is important that we use the quilt one in the first
place, so that autoreconf is run on a patched tree. Ditto for dh_clean.

Bug#614222: xserver-xorg-video-radeon: falls to wrong horizontal resolution after starting wine application

2011-02-20 Thread Marc Haber
Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
Version: 1:6.14.0-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

I just tried to start my newsreader (forte agent using wine), when X
decided that its memory layout was different and started to draw less
pixels per line than the display has (http://twitpic.com/41un09).

Suspend-and-resume, which usually fixes issues of this type, didn't
help here, I had to kill and restart the X server.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration

2011-02-20 Thread katif software
Hi.

Thanks for the prompt help.

How can I know for sure that I have i8xx card?

If I do have an i8xx card - I understood from the FAQ you linked that I
should change my video driver to vesa or fbdev.
Which is prefered?
How can I make this change?

Thanks,
Zvika

2011-02-20 Thread katif software
Another points -
1. What are the disavantages of using a generic driver instead of this one?
2. Is this problem related to using Debian, or is it for any Linux distro I
will use?
3. Maybe the installer program should be aware of the i8xx compatibility
problem, and not install this driver on the first place?

Thanks again ...

Hi.

You may lack features like acceleration etc. But you gain stability.

That's an upstream issue.

We made several attempts at fixing it. Introducing chipset detection
late in the release cycle could have lead to more issues.

> > How can I know for sure that I have i8xx card?

From the output of the bug script (included in your report), lspci returned:
| 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation
82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)

I think the FAQ tells you exactly how to do it? IIRC, vesa only does
4/3 resolutions. fbdev uses the framebuffer. I'd say fbdev (spares you
a reboot to disable KMS), and vesa if it doesn't work well.

Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration

2011-02-20 Thread katif software
- Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "an upstram issue"?
- Regrading the installer:
Well, I think that it's quite an important issue. When the avarage
end-user will encounter a need to reboot his computer 5 times a day, he will
just say that Linux is even worse than Windows, and will get back to
Microsoft ...
I think that we have to think how can we help him.

If adding this ability to the installer is problematic, there must be some
other creative solution.
Maybe upon activation of his new environment, the driver will recognize that
it's running on un-supported chipset, and will pop-up some window,
suggesting the user to switch to 'fbdev', with explanation that ordinary
people can understand (or maybe even suggest to do it automatically).

Thanks again for all the help,
Zvika

Googling shows that many, if not all, exemplars of the Acer AL2216W
monitor are broken. Unfortunately, nouveau currently has no option to
ignore invalid EDID or supply your own.

That's the wrong place to report. Use the upstream bug tracker
instead, once you've checked the first link:

If anything that should be in the kernel (and probably in the generic
drm code rather than the nouveau driver specifically). I'm not
convinced it's a good idea though.

Bug#588785: xterm: consider supporting freedesktop.org style clipboard behavior

2011-02-20 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi,

good news! I was just told that if I run xclipboard I can get the
behavior I want. So:

1) xclipboard &
2) xterm -xrm 'XTerm*VT100*translations: #override\nShift Ctrl
v:insert-selection(CLIPBOARD)\nShift Ctrl
c:copy-selection(CLIPBOARD)'
3) select text using mouse
4) hit ctrl-shift-c
5) click at random location
6) hit ctrl-shift-v

works as expected:

3) clipboard is not modified
4) selected text is added to clipboard
5) text is not highlighted. contents of clipboard is preserved
6) contents of clipboard is sent as input to the terminal

Also, it seems that

xterm -xrm 'XTerm*VT100*translations: #override\nShift Ctrl
v:insert-selection(CLIPBOARD)\nShift Ctrl c:select-set(CLIPBOARD)'

works even with xterm 261-1 in debian squeeze.

I'll definitely continue testing this but this looks promising :-)

best regards,
Timo Lindfors

That toolchain change hasn't been announced, I don't consider it a
serious bug. If you want to file one, reportbug gcc-4.4

Fix sequence ordering.

Since both the autoreconf and quilt sequences insert a command before
dh_auto_configure, it is important that we use the quilt one in the first
place, so that autoreconf is run on a patched tree. Ditto for dh_clean.

Fix failure to find ChangeLog.

Since we build out-of-tree, $(CURDIR) doesn't point to the top-level
but to the build directory, if it's not passed from the parent make.

This was done this way before switching to dh, keep on doing so.

At least KMS is no longer optional. The appropriate page would rather
be https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Mavericki8xxStatus

Which says essentially what I told you already.

Bug#614124: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration

2011-02-20 Thread katif software
Hi Again.

Switching to fbdeb made thing even worse, there was no graphics at all..
I had to switch to vesa, and disable KMS.
But now I have only 640x480 graphics, which cause me to miss the crashes I
had before with the regular intel driver.

After more Googling, I have found this page:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes

What do you think about the work arounds suggested there?
I'm a bit afraid of trying those, because I read somewhere in the FAQ that
taking solutions from other distros to Debian might be problematic; so I
wanted to verify that these are safe to try.

Thanks, and good night.

Bug#614297: the keyboard configuration is reset by hotplug events

2011-02-20 Thread Marco d'Itri
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.9.4-3
Severity: normal

An input uevent (e.g. un/plugging a mouse, which does not trigger the
rule in 64-xorg-xkb.rules) resets my custom user-configured keyboard
configuration.

I have a mildly complex xkb configuration in ~/.xkb/ which I load with:

xkbcomp -w 0 -I${HOME}/.xkb/ ~/.xkb/keymap/marco $DISPLAY

but the same issue can be reproduced just with xmodmap:

xmodmap - << END
keycode 108 = Mode_switch
keycode 54 = c C cent
END

I even tried working around this bug by copying my custom configuration
from ~/.xkb/ to /usr/share/X11/xkb/ and setting my own xkb options in
/etc/default/keyboard, but I must have got something wrong (not
modifying the *.dir files? I cannot do this since they are not
conffiles) because it does not work.
I am attaching these files too.

[xorg-server] debian/gbp.conf: Set Default 'pristine-tar = False'?

2011-02-20 Thread Sedat Dilek
Hi,

while playing with xorg-server 1.10-rc2 and building with
git-buildpackage, I got these errors:

[ build.log ]
...
dh_clean
gbp:warn: Pristine-tar branch "pristine-tar" not found
fatal: Path 'xorg-server_1.9.99.902+git20110220.b4ef34d.orig.tar.gz.delta'
does not exist in 'refs/remotes/origin/pristine-tar'
/usr/bin/pristine-tar: git show
refs/remotes/origin/pristine-tar:xorg-server_1.9.99.902+git20110220.b4ef34d.orig.tar.gz.delta
failed
gbp:error: /usr/bin/pristine-tar returned 128
gbp:error: Couldn't run '/usr/bin/pristine-tar'

Changing in debian/gbp.conf to 'pristine-tar = False' (Default: True)
solves the problem.

Can this be changed to "False" as default?
If not (disturbing your work-flow?), can you mention how to solve it
somewhere in debian/ (README or whereever)?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Alternatively (no modifications to debian/gbp.conf):

$ cd $build-dir
$ git-buildpackage --git-ignore-new --git-upstream-branch=$GIT_BRANCH
--git-no-pristine-tar --git-force-create

Is there anyone of us using that actually?

Bug#614308: RM: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd/experimental -- ROM; unmaintained

2011-02-20 Thread Cyril Brulebois
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Hi,

please remove xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd from experimental, since it's
unmaintained.

Thanks!

-x@: Only -v4l/experimental remains AFAICT, which is OK since there's
some porting work going on upstream to make it switch to V4L2.

KiBi.
